Best friends never give up on each other, at least this is what Bentley believed. For 12 years he tried to find his missing best friend, and he was determined to do what it takes to locate him.
Throughout the years, he rummaged through the museum and Sly's belongings for any idea where the missing raccoon would be. Since Bentley didn't have access to the police records, he was pretty much searching blindly.
Murray missed Sly just as bad as Bentley, but there wasn't a whole lot he could do to contribute to his finding. The only thing he could do was support Bentley in whatever he decided to do. This sickened Murray, as he just felt fat and useless. He often visited the gym regularly, so he could train to fight professionally, which he greatly enjoyed. Not only would this help him become healthier, it helped provide a release from the pain of his missing friend.
Bentley was working in his lab, desperate to find anything that would hint the location of his missing friend. He often stared at his time machine, but since he didn't know where or when Sly was, this time machine was no help. The only person who might know would be Le Paradox, but Bentley wasn't skilled enough to break into prison, and he also didn't know what prison he was at.
Lack of contact with Inspector Carmelita Fox certainly didn't aid the search either. In fact, Bentley read on the internet Inspector Fox was actually missing. This was certainly abnormal for her, but Bentley shrugged it as she must've went off to find Sly in secret. Still, he did find it rather odd she wouldn't have at least stopped by to try to find some sort of lead.
Bentley was looking at some old files on his laptop, when the doorbell suddenly rang. Bentley didn't typically have visitors, except for Murray sometimes, but Murray never knocks. Confused, Bentley got up from his fairly large black leather couch and scooted into his wheelchair. He wheeled over to the door and raised himself to look into the peep hole. The visitor was none other than the fashionable iguana, Dimitri.
Bentley opened the door, inviting Demetri inside. Dimitri was wearing his signature gold suit with several rings on his hands. "Bentley, it's so good to see you." He spoke with his thick accent.
Bentley raised an eyebrow. "It's good to see you too, I think. What brings you here?"
"Well bro…" Dimitri said as he was tapping his foot. "I was managing my club when I overheard two dudes talking about Le Paradox and what happened."
Bentley crossed his arms. "…okay?"
Dimitri smiled. "They said that Le Paradox had admitted that Egyptian parts went with Sly when he disappeared."
Bentley flinched back in surprise. "Really? How old were they?"
"I'm not sure." Dimitri tapped his chin. "They said some masked dude in some heavy armor threatened him. They must have been pretty convincing; Le Paradox wasn't saying anything to the cops, bro."
Bentley smiled. "We HAVE to find out where those artifacts are from." Bentley paused and thought for a moment. "…wait, why was some masked man threatening Le Paradox for information on Sly?"
Dimitri shrugged. "Like if I know, dude. I thought that message would be somewhat helpful. Maybe we can dig up some records to find out what was stolen from the museum."
"We need Carmelita for that." Bentley corrected. "But lately, I haven't heard from her. Sometimes she would call to come check in our status on Sly, but for the past few weeks I haven't heard a single word from her. My sources say she might be missing."
"Wait, the cop lady is missing?" Dimitri jumped back, startled. He liked Carmelita, and he started to view her more as a friend rather than an enemy. "Perhaps she went back in time to find Sly?"
Bentley shook his head. "That wouldn't be possible. Carmelita has no access to a time machine, and I can guarantee you she didn't build one."
Dimitri hung his head. "Yeah, you're right, bro. But surely you can use yours to find that cracker-box, right?"
"Well, in theory, yes Dimitri. However, I didn't have any leads to know where, or when, Sly is located. If I don't have any leads, there could literally be thousands of different years to check. If I can't narrow it down, it would take us the rest of our lives to try to find him, and it's no guarantee if he is still alive."
Just above Bentley was a small window just peaking the top of the white tiled room. Next to the window outside sat the creature. It was sitting normally, but it was listening to Bentley's conversation with Dimitri. "So, you've got a time machine too, huh?" The creature's voice started to grow angry. "What are you up to, you stupid turtle. I know you hid Sly there on purpose." The creature sat there for a few more moments before deciding to radio in one of its most trusted individuals. "Ras, some gay dude named Dimitri is telling Bentley about my encounter with Le Paradox."
"Oh, really?" The voice on the other end wasn't as deep as the creature's, but it sounded clearly like a male, a very young mail.
"Yeah." The creature responded. "Bentley knows about the items. I think he knows exactly where Cooper is. He just doesn't want to spill it. I know what happened."
"What happened, Sky?"
"Bentley hid Sly there because he was jealous."
Ras laughed over the radio. "Oh please, Bentley probably didn't do that."
The creature squinted its eyes from the response. "I don't know, but whatever it is, it looks suspicious.
"It's probably not, you need to chill. Based on mom's files, Bentley appears to be Sly's best friend. He probably is trying to simply get his best friend back; I mean that would make more sense versus your idea…"
"Whatever, because I know we have a lot to do rather than just simply rescue Sly. We have to set time straight. We have to reverse everything. Unlike Bentley, we have our own machine, one we can enter the year instead of finding artifacts."
"…at least not yet. I haven't exactly tested it yet."
The creature rolled its eyes. "Well, we both need to do that as soon as I get home. We can't afford to waste any more time on this. We have to find Sly."
