Better Together Chapter 13: "I Shouldn't Even Try"

I doubt anyone has ever even heard of this book series, but I'm starting an A to Z Mysteries fanfic. *crickets chirping* Yeah, didn't expect anyone to know what that is ehehe. :S

Louie had honestly never felt so dull in his life.

Sure, there were times where everyone had their moments, but Louie really didn't like this.

He hadn't talked with June at all at school, and it was all because of Donald. The eleven year-old fumed, why couldn't he just let him have this one thing?!

And to top it all off, June was moving in a few days, so he would never even get to see her again. Ever.

So that was amazing.

He practically had to drag himself out of bed.

- School, June-

June straightened her ponytails in the mirror on her locker, pretending to ignore the reflection of Louie passing by. Daisy had strictly told her that she was not to talk with him.

That her, quote unquote, "delinquent personality" was rubbing off on him, and that he was "influencing her horrid behavior."

Whatever that meant.

Her grip on the locker door tightened, feeling the cool metal against her right palm. She grabbed her notebook and locked the locker shut. She opened the notebook, looking at her calendar inside.

Three days until she left for Cape Suzette.

Louie had told her how he had once almost moved there, and how it had looked like paradise to them before.

Cape Suzette was where all the big-wigs hung out. And June didn't want to go there.

June knew it all too well: She'd arrive at someplace, thinking it was her home, and then a year later, they'd just end up moving again. All her friends she ever made, everyone she ever hung out with, they'd just be nothing more than memories.

Not to mention, she would have to wear dresses and act all fancy just to impress snooty people. You couldn't get a dress on May for the life of her. That was like asking April to give up her Junior Woodchuck guidebook. Impossible.

And all this to impress…oh, what was her name, Ms. Spam-our?

June snickered, she loved that nickname. It fit the wretched old lady perfectly. After all, Daisy worked her feathery tail off designing clothing, and she paid her in basically peanuts!

The girl duckling didn't understand why they even had to move! Couldn't she stay here with Louie?

Couldn't she at least talk to him?

The duckling closed her notebook, deciding it was best to just stop thinking about Louie for a while.

She gritted her teeth. She should have known better. Why had she actually even tried to make friends with him? She was just going to move again anyway.

It wasn't like it was worth anything.

No, Louie was worth everything to her.

But now, June guessed she had to let him go, just like every friend she made. She shouldn't have even tried, because in the end, she's the one that'll be heartbroken.

Don't forget to review, follow, and fav! :) ;D
