A/N: Sorry about the late update. I've had to prioritize essays and a film assignment for school. Please review to let me know how the story is going in your opinion. Yes,
I am aware there are grammar issues in the first chapter I'll get around to fixing those. I sometimes write these real late and I don't pay attention to everything. Anyway, please enjoy!
Bentley reviewed Carmelita's old notes on Sly that were on her desk. The notes weren't hard at all to find, Bentley just had to dig through the black filing box to find a fairly large file labeled "Cooper." He turned the pages rapidly to try to see what objects were stolen in the museum the night Sly went missing. If he could find out what these objects were and what time period they came from, he would be able to narrow the era Sly might be trapped in.
Bentley already figured Sly was lost somewhere in time. It wouldn't make sense for him to just banish and be somewhere on Earth. If he were dead, he would have been discovered by now, at least if Le Paradox confessed. The detectives grilled Le Paradox so much, Bentley would be stunned if he was still holding onto a lie. It also would make sense for Sly to be lost in time because the time machine exploded when Sly and Le Paradox fought. After that, Sly just went missing. Le Paradox wouldn't have had time to bury his body in that short amount of time after being captured.
After snooping for a bit, Bentley finally stumbled upon the stolen artifacts he had been looking for. Carmelita managed to discover An Ancient Egyptian sword went missing from 420 BC, an ancient urn from India, a pair of hand-woven Cherokee Indian boots from the 1700's, and an Egyptian mummy necklace from 1300 BC. Bentley concluded the Cherokee boots and ancient urn were not of interest because the boots were discovered to suffer burn damage from the fight and the urn had been stolen by an unrelated thief during the fight. The only two items Bentley could think that would hold the key to where Sly might be was the sword and the necklace. With these two items, Bentley could at least narrow Sly possibly being in Ancient Egypt.
He turned the page over and discovered Carmelita had interviewed Le Paradox more than once in the La Santé prison in Paris. He was stunned as he thought Le Paradox's location was supposedly a secret, but someone had to have known where he was. Bentley reviewed the interview and Carmelita angrily asked Le Paradox over and over where Sly was and is he still alive. Le Paradox's answer always was no, and he had no information on where Sly was. This interview didn't pose very helpful to Bentley. It didn't really matter too much, because Bentley in his head had the information what he was looking for.
Bentley grabbed the file and placed it in his backpack. Soon, the rabbit named Lila Bentley had met approached him again. "Are you going to take those files home?" She pointed at the backpack Bentley had stored the file in.
"Am I not allowed to do that?" Bentley asked while zipping his backpack.
"No, I just never really see people do it." Lila shrugged. "By the way, what is your name?"
Bentley started to drip with a little sweat. "…Rico…"
Lila giggled. "Rico? That's an odd name for an Italian!"
Bentley laughed nervously along with her. "Well, I'm not full-blooded Italian…"
Lila giggled a little more. "I didn't think you were, but that's okay. I'm not full-blooded French. I'm actually from New York!"
Bentley smiled. "That's great! I've been to New York once; it was very crowed for my taste."
Lila drooped her ears and started stroking one in nervousness. "Yeah, I would have to agree with you on that. I've always had issues on the subways. I could never get off at the right stop!"
Bentley laughed. "Get lost easily?"
Lila blushed. "Well, yeah, at least in big cities. Maybe I should take you there someday, and you can help me not get lost."
Bentley half smiled in response. "Well, we will have to see, Lila. I'm just helping with the case about Sly and I'll be on my way."
Lila frowned. "They have cell phones Bentley, and even Skype."
Bentley laughed. "I suppose that's true. I guess I have no excuse to lose contact with you."
Lila looked over at a black wall clock that was hanging over a copy machine. "Oh goodness, it's already 3 AM. I must get going. I'll see you later…Rico!" Lila waved goodbye to Bentley and hurriedly clocked out. Bentley assumed she was late clocking out for her shift, which Bentley used to do often.
Later that evening, Bentley returned to his lab to perform further examinations on the files he obtained. As he was reading, he felt this urge that someone may have been watching him. He peeked back at the small window right behind him, but never saw anything except the starry night sky.
Right then, there was a major crash through a fairly large window overlooking the living room. Bentley flinched in fear, and wheeled over to investigate the intruder, and of course grabbing some of his trusty bombs.
Through the broken glass stood the figure. It stood pretty short, in fact it stood about the same height as Bentley. It's helmet was scratched from the broken glass hitting it, and it's face had a piece of broken glass stuck in its mask fabric. "Ow…" The creature whined in its unnaturally deep voice. It brushed off the broken glass and stood up to the clearly frightened turtle. "Bentley, give me the time machine." It demanded.
Bentley was taken back at this. "What? No! Are you crazy?"
The creature narrowed its emerald green eyes. "Do I have to force it from you?"
Bentley raised up one of his bombs. "You are not taking my time machine." He said threating it. "I've heard about you. What do you want with my time machine?"
The creature grew angrier. "I need it to find Sly Cooper."
Bentley whacked it with his wheelchair pegs. The creature fell over and landed on the back of its head. "You want to find Sly? Do you even realize the consequence if you kill him? I know that's what you want to do. Why? What problem do you have with Sly? Why do you want to find him so badly? Most importantly, what in the hell gives you the right to break into my lab and demand me hand over my time machine? You should be lucky Murray isn't here."
The creature sat up, adjusting its helmet. "I can't really explain. You just need to trust me on this one."
"I don't even know who you are, or if you're even on my side. I don't trust you at all and never will."
"Bentley you don't understand…" The creature stood back up, but Bentley knocked it back onto the ground.
"Save it you monster." Bentley interrupted.
The creature tore off its helmet and mask, revealing a female raccoon underneath. Her hair was fairly long, reaching to her mid back. Her hair was covered in tight winglets and was a navy-blue color, just like Carmelita's hair. Her eyes were rather large, and her face was a perfect heart shape. She looked almost identical to Sly. "I AM on your side." She emphasized.
Bentley dropped his bomb in his hand, luckily not activating it. Was this the girl he saw on Carmelita's desk? She sure looked like it. "Who…" Bentley started to talk but couldn't really finish his sentence.
"I'm Skylar." The racoon explained as she began to stand up. "I need your help Bentley. I wore to suit because I got scared. I'm sorry."
"It's…okay…I guess." Bentley murmured. "But this still doesn't answer what you want with Sly."
"Bentley, I need to find Sly to fix time and bring him home. If I bring him home, my mother will come back to us. Sly's our only chance to fixing time. Time is all screwed up right now, and I really need your help to fix it. We can only start this by finding Sly."
Bentley was confused. "How is Sly going to help get your mother back? And who are you talking about 'us?' Is there someone else involved in this too?"
"Okay, look." Skylar started to explain. "Carmelita Montoya Fox is my mother. She isn't missing Bentley."
Bentley tapped his chin. "Where is she then?"
"Bentley…my mother was killed about two months ago."
