Better Together Chapter 16: "The Train Ride Part 2"

I just posted some art on my website! I'm actually still working on the "big one" I was talking about earlier, lol. Also, I just drew some Warriors cats for the fun of it, and they actually looked not that bad! (at least better than my humans XD) And I drew some Jade x Trip (LPS) and, of course, more Boyd x Violet art.

I'm updating Nobody Listens today!

June stuck her head out of the train, "Look at the dumb setup!"

April rolled her eyes next to her, "Oh, just keep quiet. It's beautiful view."

"You also know where else you can find this 'beautiful view'? LITERALLY EVERYWHERE ELSE IN CALISTOTA!" June yelled.

Daisy glared at them, "You're making the other passengers angry!"

June started shrieking, "AAAAARRRRRREEEEE YYYYYOOOOUUUUUUU GGGGGUUUUUUUUYYYYYSSSS MMMMMMAAAAADDDDD YYYYYYEEEEEEEETTTTTTTT?!"

Daisy face-palmed.

May turned to her sisters, "Hey, maybe this won't be so bad! I hear they have a saltine cracker factory in Cape Suzzette!"

April added, "They let you sample the crackers…um…exciting stuff!" She laughed nervously. The duckling in purple elbowed her younger sister.

"Um…totally." May cracked an awkward-looking smile.

June shot them a deadpanning look.

"Okay, so it's not the MOST exciting place we've ever been to, but we can make it work…right?" April eyed them.

June crossed her arms, "I want to go back to Duckburg."

"That's what you say every time." April frowned.

June sighed, "But this time it's different."

- Louie-

Louie was talking with his brothers inside his room. He was sitting on his bunk, while Huey was at his desk reading something and Dewey was spinning around in a blue spinning chair.

Huey told them, "Hey, do you know they're going to blow up part of Little Acres today?" Huey asked.

Dewey gasped, "Wait, what?"

Louie grumbled, "What's so dramatic about a stupid explosion that you have to gasp?"

"Little Acres is right by the railroad tracks, on the way to Cape Suzzette."

It just clicked inside Louie's head, "Wait, but June's going to Cape Suzzette by train! Didn't they tell the engineer?"

Dewey scowled, "I don't think so, because I didn't hear anything about the train ride being canceled."

"Are you kidding me?! We have to do something!" Louie cried out. He jumped off the bed.

Dewey grinned, "On it!" He rushed out of the room, "Ohhhhhhhh Launchpad! Webby!"

- Time Skip-

"Mr. McD is going to be so mad!" Launchpad winced. He was sitting in the limo, the kids jumping around the everywhere in the back.

"We need to go now, Launchpad!" Huey told him.

"Yeah! For me!" Dewey cheered.

"For June." Louie coughed.

Dewey socked him in the arm.

Huey ignored the duckling in blue and turned to Webby, "We need to create a signal fire. You brought the flares, right?"

Webby chuckled, "Yup."

"Step on it Launchpad!" Dewey yelled, "I wanna see how fast she goes!"

Huey and Louie gave him deadpan looks.

"And…save June, I guess." Dewey muttered.

- Time Skip-

June stared out the window.

Two hours down, 14 to go.

She shifted on the dark green seats, resting her fingers on the windowsill. Her breath fogged the glass, and she wiped it away with the back of her palm. Suddenly, the tangy scent of smoke hit her nostrils. She opened the window slightly, peeking her head out. Ahead of the train, there was a flare going off.

The train screeched to an abrupt halt, "SIGNAL FIRE!" The engineer (person driving the train) yelled out.
Daisy and the triplet shared confused glances, rushing out of the train along with everyone else.

"What happened? Why did we stop?!" A furious finch glowered. She had a rose-colored dress and blonde hair, "I didn't pay for this!"

The engineer, a parrot, had reached the person who started the signal fire. He was standing a few feet away.

June was shocked, "Louie?!" She rushed to him.

"Any further, and you'd have been blown into pieces." Huey told her, "We came to stop the train."

June smiled, "You saved me." She looked at Louie, who went pink from the attention. He smiled back.

Daisy stared down the kids, interrupting their conversation, "Okay, fun little reunion and all, but after they clear the land in a few hours, we're going to Cape Suzzet."

June looked wounded, "But…why can't we stay?!"

"I'm sorry June. I knew that you were good friends with Louie, but it isn't my decision, it's my job."

At that moment, Louie felt his blood turn to ice, and whatever love and fondness he felt earlier was replaced by anger. He started walking away, not looking back. The chilly air tickled his spine, but he hardly felt it because he was burning with rage.

June had tears in her eyes, "Louie, I'm so…Louie?" When she looked around, Louie wasn't with them.

"Louie?!" Huey called.

"L-let's just go." Louie's voice sounded from far away.

He snapped, heartbroken, "This wasn't worth it. It was never worth it."

He didn't even turn back to say goodbye.
