12 years earlier…
"Okay miss Fox let's take a look at how your baby is doing."
A young panther nurse sat beside Carmelita, turning on the ultrasound machine. Carmelita had laid down on a rather small and uncomfortable bed in an extremely small room. The room was dark, but not pitch black. It was white walls all over with a small sink in the corner. It felt like a prison hospital room, Carmelita expected a bit cozier with an OBGYN running the show, but she mistakenly thought.
The nurse squeezed a bottle of some gel onto Carmelita's lower belly. She soon grabbed the machine and ran it across her lower belly. Carmelita peeked over and saw just a little head, but she didn't expect it to be very big yet. After all, she was only 3 months along.
The panther abruptly stopped the machine, panicking Carmelita some. "Don't worry, miss Fox. I just need to get the doctor really quickly. It's nothing serious."
This did not really console the nervous fox. Every possible scenario flew through her head all at once. What if the baby had a deformation? What if the baby wasn't going to survive? What if the baby was going to be born with a serious issue? Even if the baby was born with anything wrong, she still would've loved it the same way she would to any of her children. It still worried her, however.
Just a few minutes later, a pink tiger entered the room with a white coat and black boots. Her blond hair was tied into a ponytail and she wore thick round glasses. She was rather short, but she appeared very intelligent. She sat next to the small bed Carmelita was laying on and placed her hand on her's. "Don't worry, miss Fox." She assured. "I can see you're scared. Let me explain, just because I have to come in here doesn't mean that it's a bad thing. The nurse just spotted something unusual, that's all."
Carmelita nodded in understanding, but the fact that there could be something unusual about her child still worried her. The doctor squeezed some more of that gel and ran the machine around her lower belly once more, closely examining the fetus. After what seemed like forever, the doctor finally stopped and smiled at Carmelita.
"Let me show you something, miss Fox." She turned the monitor over, facing Carmelita so she could see how her baby was doing. "This is baby A." The doctor pointed to a baby on the far right. Carmelita found this odd. Why would a doctor be calling her baby 'baby A?' It didn't make any sense.
"This is baby B." The doctor pointed at the baby on the left side. "Miss Fox, congratulations, you're having twins!"
Carmelita smiled, but behind that smile she was masking so many emotions; fear, anger, sadness, worry, stress, all the emotions in the book. How was she supposed to take care of twins by herself? Sly wouldn't be there to help, but she knew that wasn't his fault. This fact still made her feel worse. The Interpol didn't really pay enough to support a family, and Carmelita was worried enough with one baby, now she has two. All she could think about were her twins going hungry and living homeless with her, with no father to speak of. This hurt her the most, though. She didn't show it, but she loved Sly. She loved him more than anyone ever did, and she felt as if someone pierced her heart and sliced it in half when Sly went missing. Now, she has two of his babies, and she can't even share the moment with him. She was truly alone and frightened.
"Miss Fox," the doctor once again placed her hand on the sweating Carmelita. "I know this is a lot to take in, but I assure you that we will do our best to ensure your comfort and security. We understand you're scared, and we're here to help you."
Carmelita couldn't hold back her tears. Her tears uncontrollably leaked from her big brown eyes. All she wanted to do at this point was cry. "I want these babies, I really do, but I'm scared."
The doctor just continued to hold her hand. "I know you're scared, miss Fox. We will do everything we can to help you. Would you like to hear some good news?"
"Yes." Carmelita sobbed.
The doctor smiled. "Your babies look very healthy and they look to be growing just fine. I didn't see any deformities or anything that would cause a concern at the moment."
Carmelita smiled. This was indeed good news for her. It's bad enough Sly wasn't here, but if something happened to her babies, there would be no telling what would have happened to her.
During the pregnancy, Carmelita never really slowed down. She still busted criminals at a record pace, despite her rapidly growing belly. Hammering justice was her only stress reliver. If she wasn't busting criminals, she was conducting her investigation on Sly, her main project. She never stopped looking for him, in fact the search got more intense after she found out she was having twins. Carmelita was not going to stop for anything, no matter how bad she felt.
Carmelita never spoke about her pregnancy to any of the Cooper gang. She figured they wouldn't have believed her anyway. She never really wanted to hide her babies from them either, since they were practically Sly's brothers. Carmelita feared they would have thought of her as a liar, since they still don't trust her. It hurt her to know they may think that way about her, but she just had to ignore it and continue with her work.
3 months flew by rather quickly for Carmelita, and still no sign of Sly. She tried not to think about it too much, since she knew as well as anyone her investigation was going nowhere. She still had no idea what time and where Sly was, so her getting her hands on that time machine would be pointless. To relieve her worries, she often thought about her two little ones growing inside of her. She often wondered the gender of the babies, secretly wishing for little boys. She imagined herself running around trying to capture them and get them ready for dinner, a bath, and bedtime. It was thrilling for her to think about her babies like that, and she looked forward to meeting the two little monsters.
Carmelita entered her OBGYN's office once again, ready for the big day. The office changed some; the doctor replaced the waiting chairs with some plain wood ones and added a child's block table. She thought that was rather ironic since most of the women in the office were pregnant themselves.
A panda stepped outside into the waiting room with a clipboard in her left hand. "Miss Fox?"
Carmelita stood up from her chair she had been sitting on and sat down the women's day magazine she had been reading. The nurse prepped Carmelita for another ultrasound, directing her into the familiar dark room she had been in 3 months ago. She sat on the little bed, and the nurse squeezed the cold gel onto Carmelita's lower belly.
The nurse ran the machine, examining the twins and trying to find out what gender they were. "Baby A is a little boy, Miss Fox."
Carmelita was so thrilled. A little boy? She figured the other one must be a little boy as well. She was so excited to have two little Sly Coopers running around her apartment.
"Baby B is…a little girl!"
A little girl? Carmelita figured she had the best of both worlds. She has both a little girl and a little boy! Sure, she wanted two little boys, but she figured a boy and a girl was better than having two little girls, less drama she imagined.
"Congratulations miss Fox. Looks like you got the best of both worlds! Let me get the doctor and she will take a look at their vitals."
6 months passed since Carmelita's OBGYN visit. The babies were due any moment now. Her belly was beyond swollen, so swollen in fact she couldn't even see her feet any longer. Instead of her signature sports bra and jeans, she wore old t shirts and sweatpants regularly. If it wasn't that, she wore ugly large dresses. She felt like she couldn't fit into anything any longer, and it was very embarrassing for her. Not only this, but her feet and hands were very swollen. Not even the Epsom salt bath helped with the swelling.
Carmelita checked into the hospital to get ready for her due date the next day. The nurses escorted her to a clean and modern room on the second floor. She was terrified. Nobody was going to be there for the birth, and she had failed to find Sly in time. There was no turning back now, she had to have those babies.
That next day was terrible for her. She felt nauseous, and the babies had been kicking her belly that entire night; they were so ready to enter the world.
The OBGYN entered the room with a mask and was dressed in a white suit with a hairnet to try to bunch up all her curls. "Carmelita, I need you to relax sweetie. We're going to give you something to help with the pain, okay?"
Carmelita didn't remember much after the shot. All she remembered was the next minute two little babies were in her arms; Skylar and Rascal. Their tiny bodies seemed so fragile and cold, but they were much more durable than meets the eye. "I promise I will never let anything happen you two." Carmelita hugged both of them tightly. "We're in this together."
Present day…or about 4,000 years ago…
"I bet Sly is here!" Rascal cheered, eager to get moving.
Nathan crossed his arms. "Dad, it's going to take days to find Sly, and we don't even know that he's here. How is this a good idea?"
"It's a terrible idea, Nathan." Daniel explained. "But this is our only chance to find Sly."
Skylar looked around and noticed a pyramid just ahead past a giant mound of sand. She didn't really know what to think of it, other than it was an odd placement. She didn't even really understand what was even inside of pyramids. "Hey, there's a pyramid just beyond that sand mound."
Rascal stood on his toes to get a better look. "Hey, there IS a pyramid. That means there's civilization close by."
"Aren't pyramids just tombs?" Daniel questioned.
"Yes, but in this time, they weren't completely done yet. The Egyptian pharos are supposed to be buried inside of those things. The pharos aren't dead yet, so that means they must be close by, meaning a civilization is close by." Rascal explained.
"That's some good thinking there, Rascal." Nathan patted him on the back. "But how do we know that's where Sly is at?"
Rascal shrugged. "We don't know. We need to go over there and find out."
Skylar crossed her arms. "I'm sorry, but I've seen lots of movies about time traveling. We aren't supposed to talk to anyone. If we can't talk to anyone, how are we supposed to find our dad?"
Daniel raised an eyebrow. "What? I've never heard of such a thing."
Rascal crossed his arms. "We can talk to them; we just can't do anything major. We need to go to that pyramid and find the closest city. The Egyptians gossiped a lot, perhaps they know of a neighboring city that experienced a strange raccoon entering their city gates."
"Or perhaps he's not in any city at all."
The gang looked over and noticed a strange lion figure standing in front of them, as if he had just teleported there. The figure was indeed a lion, but short and buffy. His main was so long and majestic, it almost looked like it was made of magic. Skylar noticed his tail and managed to put two and two together, realizing this was the creature that had murdered their mother.
"You…you are the guy…they guy who ruined our lives." She accused.
The creature laughed. "Well, aren't you a smart…raccoon thing." He stopped and scratched his chin. "A Sly Cooper look alike with a few fox hints into it…I guess I just see something new every day. I'm sorry for the strange introduction, my name is Lucifer."
"The devil…" Rascal whispered through his lips.
"Anyway, if you want your dad back, you're going to have to find him. Clockwerk made it very clear that he doesn't want Sly being found. I hid him good, so I wish you luck."
Daniel shook, remembering very clearly who Clockwerk was. The memories of the ancient bird and his gang destroying their family haunts him clearly to this day. The memories were so vivid, as if he was just there the other day. Those images of his parents being slaughtered were permanently engraved into his brain, and no amount of acting or distraction could help him forget it.
"The Cooper line is finished." Lucifer explained. "Once Sly is gone, you idiots will disappear with him."
"Jokes on you." Nathan sarcastically laughed. "If Sly dies, nothing will happen to Danny and I. Just Skylar and Rascal will go."
Lucifer turned over into Nathan's line of view. "Oh, so YOU'RE Coopers too? I didn't know Sly had siblings. Clockwerk will be happy to know that information."
"Nice work, genius." Daniel growled. "Do you have the slightest idea who Clockwerk is?! He's literally our worst nightmare, Nathan."
"Now if you excuse me, I have a raccoon to take care of. See you later everyone! Happy hunting!"
Lucifer disappeared as fast as he appeared, leaving a trail of dust in his path. The gang only could just absorb this information and try to figure out who this Clockwerk person is and why he would want a lion killing off the Coopers. Whatever the reason, it wasn't going to be good, and the gang was really starting to fear for their lives at this point.
