Better Together Chapter 23: "Sun And Moon"

YEAH BOIIIIII THE FINALE! Get ready ya'll! The title might look weird in the beginning, but I promise you'll understand it towards the end. ;D

Dewey was walking through the halls of McDuck manor. He slyly ducked around a corner, narrowing his eyes when he spotted a flicker of movement from the right side of his eye, and then whipped around to see it was only a vase that had wobbled. Dewey rolled his eyes at himself for getting carried away with his "spy" role, and then quickly ran down the stairs. Right at the very bottom of the staircase, Louie, who was packing a bag with 'necessary' stuff (does Pep really count as a must-have item?) looked at him.

"Are the grown-ups around?"

"Nerp! The coast is clear!" Dewey cheered. Then he cringed at his voice, "This is getting weird."

Webby swung down from the ceiling with her grappling hook, "I distracted Granny and sent her to the backyard. She won't be back for a while. Della and Launchpad are out taking the Cloudslayer for a test flight after they repaired it to see if it works again, Scrooge is at the Money Bin, and Della's at Donald's houseboat." The duckling in pink reported.

Louie chuckled, "Great! That means we can sneak out no problem!" He handed Huey the bag, "Hold this."

"Why me?!" Huey asked, struggling with the blue carry-on.

"Here, let me help you." Dewey grinned, "I'm strong." After a few minutes of struggling, he grunted, "Holy crap, Louie! What did you put in this?!"

"Only the necessities." Louie assured him/lied.

Webby jumped down completely now, "Oh really? In what world is PEP a 'necessity'?" She pulled out a full 18 can case of Pep select.

Louie laughed sheepishly, "Whatever. We need to stay hydrated." Webby just tossed the case away in response, shooting him a deadpan look.

"Okay, that's fair." Louie grumbled. Webby slung the bag over her shoulder, and Louie took out his phone then announced, "I bought a ticket for the airport and booked us a flight."

"A ticket? As in one? Only ONE? Louie, there's four of us." Huey said.

Dewey raised his hand, "I know!"

"No, we're not leaving anyone, Dewey." Huey glared at him.

Dewey crossed his arms, "It was worth a try."

Louie smirked naughtily, "So, they won't let kids into the airport alone. But, they'll let grown-ups in, won't they"?

"Yeah…where are you going with this…?" Huey wrinkled his brow in confusion.

Louie chuckled, "Oh, you'll see."

- Time Skip-

Huey's voice came muffled from the fabric, "Why do I have to be on the bottom?!" The four kids were stacked on top of each other, Huey being on the bottom, Webby being on top of him, Louie being on top of her, and finally, Dewey on top of Louie's head. They were wearing an oversized brown trench coat with two pockets on either side. The sleeves were drooping to the ground, clearly too big for them. Dewey's head poked out of the top, and he was wearing a beige sunhat, big showy sunglasses, and a dark green scarf. Huey was wearing bright red high-heels.

"Steady….! Steady….!" Webby yelped as Huey wobbled.

"Hubert, stay still!" Louie scolded him.

"I'm trying!" Huey shot back. He grinned, "Junior Woodchuck rule 654: 'Always take things one step at a time.'"

Webby ushered them to move along, "Come on, we don't want Scrooge and the others to come find us!"

Huey kept walking at turtle-pace.

Webby, annoyed, kicked him and the kids yelped as they went tumbling towards the front door. Thankfully, Louie grabbed the door handle just in time to open it, and the kids walked outside in disguise.

Huey groaned, "I hate heels."

One extremely boring and tiring walk later…

The kids were standing in front of the Duckburg airport. They had gotten hang of walking now, cherishing the cool, crisp autumn breeze as it tickled their feathers. The scent of car exhaust lingered in the air, and Louie could hear the birds chirping inside. The building itself was pretty normal looking for an airport, with glass windows and moving doors. People hurriedly walked in and walked out with suitcases and luggage.

They stepped inside, and Huey, Webby, and Louie all poked their heads out from the coat to get a good look of their surroundings. There was a check-in desk with a rather annoyed looking chipmunk made taller by a chair.

The kids pushed through the line.

"Whoops…sorry…coming through!" Dewey said. They made it to the check-in desk.

"Name." The chipmunk sneered.

"Uh…Mark….Beaks'….twin."

"I don't remember Beaks having a twin…" The chipmunk raised an eyebrow and eyed him suspiciously.

Webby, who still had the bag slung across her shoulder, reached inside and pulled out a fake passport with a rather messy drawing of Mark's Beaks' "twin."

The chipmunk squinted, "I don't have my glasses…" She squinted again.

"Miranda, keep the line moving!" Someone barked at her.

The chipmunk glared at them, "You're in."

The kids navigated their way through the airport, and then, they came to the place Louie dreaded.

Security.

Now, normally Louie wouldn't mind this. But surely, when airport workers looked through the x-ray and found out there were four people stacked on top of each other squashed into a coat, they would most likely become just a tad bit worried.

Or a lot.

"So, how do we do this?" Louie asked.

"Let's just run as fast as we can through it." Webby suggested. She pulled over to a spot behind the escalator where she was sure they couldn't be seen, and took the disguise off.

"Or…" Huey reached his hand under his hat and grabbed a purple amulet with a gold outline.

Louie gawked, "Lena gave you her amulet-thingy?!"

"Well, not exactly." Huey explained, "She had another one which I can use to call her." He rubbed it three times with his palm, and the gem glowed brighter. Suddenly, a purple hologram figure shot out of it.

Lena.

The teen duck crossed her arms, "Hubert. Oh what do I owe this wonderful visit?" She asked sarcastically.

"Can you distract the security guys over there while we sneak away and take out the cameras for a sec?" Dewey asked.

Lena put her hands on her hips, "I don't take orders from you! What am I, your genie?!" She bit her beak to keep from laughing, "What happened to your voice?!"

Dewey grumbled, "I don't want to talk about it."

Huey scowled, "Lena…"

"Just saying Dewey, you sound like a-!"

"LENA!"

"Oh, what?"

Huey gave her a look.

"Fine, whatever." Lena said. In a flash, she disappeared, and three giant black crows started attacking the security officers, who were frantically screaming. The cameras went on the fritz, glitching in and out. Louie turned to the others, signaling that this was their chance.

Webby, Louie, Huey, and Dewey climbed back into the disguise, walking past all the chaos without a problem. They made it to the airport waiting room. The walls were a quite sad and boring shade of gray with dark gray seats that folded upright to occupy less space. A few people sat there looking at their cellphones, tablets, Kindles, books, or basically just something that would keep them busy.

"Ooooo, why don't we go inside a shop while we're waiting, instead of staying here with these stuffy old guys?" Dewey said a bit too loudly, earning glares from many of the people in the crowd.

"It's almost time for our flight! We don't have time!" Huey hissed. A few minutes later, they got on the plane. The flight took only 4 hours, which Dewey, Huey, and Webby spent most of the time sleeping inside the disguise while Huey read a book under all of them. (Well, a holo-book that Lena had given him access too) When it was time to leave, he woke up the others and they got off the plane, went back inside the second airport, then ventured outside. Cape Suzzette was mainly surrounded by water, kind of reminding Huey of Venicefeather. They took of the disguise, throwing it in a garbage bin nearby on the streets. The place was pretty clean, consisting of many shops and whatnot, with, most notably, a saltine cracker factory as well.

They walked and walked until Louie finally told them to stop.

"This is it. The person Daisy works for is inside that building." He took a deep breath, reaching his hand to the doorknob, but Dewey interrupted him by gagging and throwing up. The voice modulator fell out of his beak.

"Ew, gross. You ruined the moment!" Louie hissed. He ungracefully shoved open the door, revealing an Elvis Presley look-alike sparrow standing in what seemed to be an office. He was sporting a gold outfit with jet-black hair and dark blue eyes. His feathers were brown and white, fluffing outwards at his neck. His tail was long and dragged behind him.

"Hm? I didn't get a call about visitors…" The sparrow frowned at the kids.

"We're actually here to see Daisy Duck. Is she here?" Huey asked.

The sparrow raised an eyebrow, "You just missed her. She isn't in my office anymore."

The kids deflated.

"Let me guess, you snuck all the way here to find her and want her to come back and work for that rich snob Emma Glamour." He wrinkled his beak in disgust at the name.

The ducklings shared equally shocked glances, but Louie just said, "Uh, yeah. That's…that's about right." He awkwardly scratched the back of his head.

"Si." The sparrow curled his beak, "Her nieces were here a minute ago, if that's who you're looking for."

Louie brightened and beamed, "They were?!" He rushed out of the office down the corridor, bumping into someone carrying a roll of fabric.

Louie gawked, "June?!"

"Louie!" June threw herself onto Louie in a hug.

"How did you get here?! What are you doing?!" She asked.

"Well…" Louie said, "I came back. For you." June put a comforting hand on his shoulder, and the duckling laughed, pushing a feather away from his face.

"You did that…for me?" June asked. Louie only nodded, avoiding her eyes.

Oh how they sparkled.

Suddenly, a female duck with a black bow in her hair stopped in front of them. A purple-clad duckling and an orange-clad duckling were right behind her.

"June! I told you to bring the fabric to m- LOUIE?!" She gawked, "What are you doing here?!" Huey, Webby, and Dewey emerged from behind a cream-colored wall, "What are all of you doing here?!"

"I think I can explain." A Scrooge in disguise crept into view, taking off his sunglasses. A worker lady was revealed to be Beakley, another one Della, Donald, and then Launchpad who was disguised as a plant.

Scrooge put his hands on his hips, "Ya really thought ya could trick us like that?" He clicked his tongue disapprovingly, but grinned, "Although I have to say, that disguise was really clever."

"It was?"

Donald glared at the elder duck, "Don't encourage him!" He turned back to Daisy, "Daisy, I think that it was a mistake to move here. In Duckburg, you can be with us!" He motioned to the rest of his family, "Would you rather stay here and toil under the service of an unworthy sparrow?"

"Hey! My fashion is VERY worthy!" The sparrow fumed, entering the scene.

"Daisy, you deserve better than this. You're a great fashion designer, don't you think? You don't need to impress anyone. You can make your own clothing line, and trust me, people will like it. You don't need some It List or fashionista to prove that."

Daisy smiled, "Well…I guess I could make my own clothing line…that would be fun." She looked around, contemplating the idea. She sighed, "Okay, I'll go back."

Louie let out an excited gasp and June tackled him into another hug, laughing.

"Oh and Louie, you still owe me a golden statue." Scrooge pursed his beak.

"Dang it! You knew?"

Scrooge deadpanned, "The whole time."

"Awwww man!"

When they arrived back at Duckburg the sun was setting on the horizon. Brilliant shades of pink, orange, yellow, purple, and pastel blue colored the sky. The grown-ups had gone inside to chat, but Louie was outside admiring the scenery, sitting down with his legs extended, gazing up.

"Hey. Mind if I join you?" Someone asked. Louie looked around and saw that it was June.

"Oh, um, yeah, s-sure." Louie stuttered, scooting over. June sat down next to him.

They smiled and held hands, watching the sun disappear completely from view.

"You know, we're kind of like the moon and the sun."

Louie looked confused, "What?"

"We're complete opposites when you think about it, just like day and night. We accompany each other, and when one of is dull, the other one always shines a light on them. Think about it: Isn't the moon made brighter by the sun?"

Louie smiled, "Then I guess you're my sun."

"And you're my moon."

They were silent, but Louie could tell they were both thinking the same thing.

Whatever life threw at them, they would face everything together, and could never be torn apart, because their bond was too strong of a one to be severed.

Awww…well that was a sweet ending. I really thought long and hard about this ending, trying to make it as detailed and intricate as possible. I'm not the best at endings, but I felt pretty content with this one. I also felt like I really had to use my creativity for Louie's little airport scheme, lol.

Well, thank you so much for taking the time to read my story. I really appreciate it. :)
