The wanted tears never fell from Aro's eyes as he continued to pour out over his silent broken heart. He and Bella had gotten into a massive and hurtful argument earlier that day and she never returned to their place in Austria. Now all he possessed were the remanence of her existence around the apartment and his memories. They'd become so close over the passed couple of months since they'd been on the run after Sulpicia and her secret forces ambushed and butchered everyone on the battlefield.
Visions of the past danced around him like a series of waking dreams. The smell of fire and and ash that were once members of his coven and the other covens filled his nostrils. Marcus. Caius. Athenadora. Didyme. Jane. Alec. Felix. Demetri. Heidi. Corin. Chelsea. Afton. Renata. Mele. Santiago. One by one they fell around him until he was the last surviving member of the Volturi in the deafening chaos. Their immortal lives cut short by the bloodthirsty hounds of Sulpicia. A shaky unnecessary breath escaped his lips. His onyx colored eyes trailed from one family member to the next watching the fearsome flashes devour their scattered remains into mere ashes. The once powerful Aro Volturi lifted his head to the crimson eyes of his monstrous ex wife. Her merciless piercing gaze trapped him in place. There was no way she could see him in his present state even in a vision. That was impossible. But she was staring at him nonetheless or rather through him. Aro cautiously turned around, partially terrified of turning his back to her, and saw the only two remaining figures dash into the forest. Her two main targets. Him and Bella.
He watched as he and Bella barely managed to escape the forest to the Cullen's house after a couple of skirmishes. One fight nearly took Bella's head off. The vampire had her pinned to the ground on her stomach. She was writhing around on the ground struggling to free herself from his grip when suddenly the extra weight was launched off of her. Aro watched her surprised expression when his past self ripped the head off her attacker.
Confusion and awe swirled in her beautiful golden eyes. "Look! This doesn't change anything but th-"
"Oh just shut up and run, woman!" He shouted tossing the scout's head away from its body. They ransacked the house taking what they needed including new clothes and hightailed it out of there in Carlisle's car.
"Where are we going?" She asked as the tires screeched along the winding paved road at Aro's incredible speed.
"Transylvania." Transylvania meant one thing and the only thing that would stop Sulpicia. Aro knew the new self-proclaimed Queen of the vampires was fully aware of his plan and would use any means necessary to stop them. Aro and Bella agreed planes and cellphones were forbidden in fear of tracking and exposure. Plus, neither of them knew how to fly a plane or fly in general if the plane went down during an attack. There was no guarantee they'd survive. They'd have to find other means of transportation and stay low trekking across America and Europe until they reached The Count.
"But first," Aro put the car in park in front of Jacob's house. "There's one last thing." They knew this mission would be too dangerous to bring Renesmee along. This was the only way to keep her safe and out of Sulpicia's clutches. Aro never had any intention of hurting that child. She was merely an excuse to get to Bella and Aro certainly wasn't going to tell Bella that. Both Aro's watched her almost lifelessly exit the car and walk up to the door.
"I truly am sorry, Bella." He murmured the apology she never heard from the driver seat. He respected her last moments with Renesmee and never left the car. The little girl saw Aro and ran to him. She motioned for him to open his door and she jumped up and hugged him surprisingly. Hours ago he'd threatened to kill her and now she was hugging him as if he was a member of their family. She then whispered something in his ear low enough just outside of Bella's vampire hearing range. Aro froze at the words that fell from the half immortal's mouth. The former king cautiously pulled away not to alarm Bella by his reaction. Luckily, their little exchange was mostly blocked by the opened car door.Renesmee met his eyes and Aro numbly nodded still shocked by her words. She held up a single finger to her lips before hugging him again and ran back to her Mom and Jacob who was still trying to convince Bella to stay under the protection of the pack. Bella said goodbye to them both one last time before forcing herself back to the car and they were off again. They never spoke.
