Another vision flashed before him showing the time not long after leaving Washington state he and Bella were screaming at each other on the side of a road in the middle of a sunny day before she started physically attacking him. They were wasting time. Sulpicia's spies were closing in fast and the sun was closing in on their shaded area. They were going to die either way if they didn't leave soon and they were too busy arguing.
"This is all of your fault! If you'd just left us alone none of this would have happened!" She screamed.
"My fault?! How is this my fault! I'm not the one who just butchered our entire covens! Why would I destroy my own family?" Aro equally shouted back. All of this built up anger was the product of their mourning and wanted someone to blame and he was her obvious target.
"You were certainly bent on destroying mine no matter what! So, how do I know this isn't just some part of your plan?" Bella accused.
"And what brilliant plan would that be?" Aro spat back with his balled up fists on his hips.
"I don't know! Using her as a decoy to make yourself look innocent by having her attack your own coven and becoming the sole ruler of the vampires? I wouldn't passed you to pull something like anyway. You don't care about anyone but your own selfish desires and who gets hurt in the process!" She screeched.
He could have straggled her. Aro's anger boiled over and slammed her up against the car slightly denting it in the process. His once gentle hands now became bone crushing restraints against her tiny wrists. Bella's emotions and whirlwind thoughts were too powerful for her to focus on summing her shield.
"Are you really that stupid to think I'd ever massacre my own family just to watch you suffer and lose everything I hold dear then turn around and claim power without any forces behind me?" He growled in her face. Her innocent gold eyes were lost in a sea of soulless ebony. His eyes truly were another gift he possessed. They were terrifying, welcoming, and hypnotic. Once again, Bella found herself struggling to look away. She refused to look weak under his gaze or cower in defeat.
Bella straightened her spine. "You're crazy enough to pull something like that." She boldly challenged but her bravery wained when her voice lightly cracked.
Aro lips curled producing a sinister growl. If Bella were still human her blood would have turned cold in sheer terror at the sight of his growing fangs. Aro pressed closer to her face until strands of his long dark hair brushed against her eyelashes. He tightened his hold around her wrists. Bella bit back a squeak. She could have sworn her bones were going to break under the inhuman strength.
"I'm not that crazy. So, please enlighten me, my dear Bella." His mockingly pronounced her name in the same manner as he did on the battlefield.
"Am I monster in your eyes through your own conclusions or do you just accept and take on everything your worthless insipid husband told you to believe?" The Volturi royal snarled baring his fangs in her ear.
Pure unadulterated rage surged through Bella's dead veins. Fire roared within her throwing Aro by his neck up against the rock wall. "How dare you! How dare you even think you are worthy enough to say his name. He wasn't bent on power. He wasn't a monster. He was nothing like you." The dark haired lioness roared baring her own fangs in defiance.
"You're absolutely right! He was nothing like me. I wasn't stupid enough to deny you of you wanted. I didn't nearly let you die in childbirth. I didn't abandon you in a forest pretending to care about your safety while you went into a horrific depression and didn't do anything when you nearly killed yourself. I didn't stalk you and watch you sleep every night. And I certainly didn't whine and complain about how hard my life was as a vampire. Thank heaven for that!" Aro choked under the crushing pressure of Bella's hand around his throat.
Edward was a waste in Aro's eyes. If there had been a way to reverse his vampire life, Edward would have taken it and would have forced Bella to do the same destroying her amazing abilities and the potential of what she could become. She was smarter than that and he saw it in her that day at Volterra. He just wanted her to see it too. He just went about it the wrong way and it only got worse. His words were more damaging than any verminous bite. She completely froze. All of the anger washed away leaving an empty shell of a beautiful vampire.
Aro watch in shock at the scene before him. If anyone had seen this moment between them no one would have believed what would take place in the course of a few more months into the future. Even he forgot for a moment. He was absolutely stunned at how horribly they'd treated each other. They never fought like that again until she left him that night in Austria. Aro's mind wondered to their most recent fight hearing the echoes of their biting words. New found pain swelled up inside of him. It wasn't much different than what he'd just witnessed. Only this time she walked out instead what came next from the memory.
Aro glanced back at their past selves as Bella released him. Venomous tears fell from her lovely eyes. He wanted to go to her. He stepped forward desperately wanting to wipe away her tears completely forgetting he was watching a memory. But his past self gently reached through his hand as if he were a ghost to place a comforting hand on her shoulder but she swatted it away and lunged at him. She pushed him up against the rock wall again slapping and punching his chest and arms. He never fought back. Instead he locked his wrists around her lower back bring her closer to his chest. The tears continued the flow down her cheeks and onto his suit as they collapsed to the ground. Her beatings became more lax and her angry fists softened to desperate holds against his suit jacket. Nothing he felt could compare to Bella's anguish. His lost his entire family, throne, and home. But Bella lost more. A family, friends, her father, her new husband, and her daughter. All in one day. They mourned their families separately and together for the first time. Sulpicia's army could come and destroy them or the sun could burn them and it wouldn't matter anymore. They'd have this moment even it became their last.
After an hour had past, Aro helped Bella up and escorted her back into the car. He walked around to the driver's side and slowly pulled back out onto the highway and back on track to reach Transylvania leaving his present self behind.
