Luka Couffaine visits his 3-month old son
Luka Couffaine ran a hand through his dark black hair, as he approached his ex-girlfriend's apartment in New York. Despite the fact that they broke up, Luka felt it was his duty to at least aknowledge that he had a son. Walking towards Marinette's door, he knocked 3 times, and stepped back. In the background, he could hear a small child cry, and a woman's frustrated groan. After a few more seconds, Marinette opened the door, her eyes widening in shock.
"L-Luka," she gasped, her face reddening, and her hands trembling.
"Do you mind if I can see my son?" asked Luka smoothly.
"Oh no-not at all! C-Come on in!" replied Marinette, a bit too enthusiastically. The pair shared an awkward silence as Luka walked in. Then, almost frantically, Marinette nearly jumped and grabbed Luka's hand, leading him to the nursery.
"Percy-His name is Percy Dupain-Cheng," Marinette explained, wringing her hands nervously, as the then-crying child had calmed down, and was now staring at his father intently.
"Hello, Perseus Dupain-Cheng" smiled Luka. Percy let out a soft coo, and Marinette smiled from the corner. Luka placed his finger in the bassinet, and Percy grabbed it firmly, his eyes not leaving Luka's. After a few more minutes of playing with his son, Luka Couffaine turned around and sighed.
"He will not be able to stay with you forever, you know," he said.
Marinette nodded slowly,
"I know," she replied. The couple faced another awkward silence.
"I've missed you," Marinette whispered, and Luka smiled sadly.
"I wish I could stay," he replied. "You can still come to live with me underwater-with Perseus-if you'd like" he offered. But it was hopeless.
Marinette shook her head.
"C-can you stay here for the n-night?" stuttered Marinette, blushing. Luka bit his lip, shaking his head no.
"I can't" he responded, leaving Marinette deflated.
"Oh"
"But I can give you this"
Luka walked to Marinette and placed a chaste kiss on her lips, leaving the pair red faced. Marinette then soaked up the reality that it would be years until she would see him again.
"Why is it so hard to say goodbye?" she quietly sobbed.
Luka pulled Marinette into a tight hug, letting the petite woman cry her eyes out. After the two pulled away, Marinette half expected Luka to say some sort of a farewell, but he was gone.
The young woman touched her lips with her index finger, and smiled inwardly.
No, she would not cry anymore.
Marinette had a feeling that she would have a good sleep tonight.
