Disclaimer: I do not own Buffy or Batman. I am only borrowing them.
For Buffy this takes place around season 6.
Things on the Hellmouth had been slow. Sunnydale had been virtually dead for the past month with Buffy only slaying one vampire in that four-week time period. In Gotham supernatural activity was on the rise. It was as if the Sunnydale Hellmouth had suddenly closed up and decided to re-open in Gotham. Giles, Buffy, Xander and Anya all went to Gotham to check out the scene. Buffy didn't want Dawn to miss school, so she stayed with Willow and Tara while Buffy was gone.
Two days later Giles, Buffy, Anya, and Xander arrived in Gotham. Gathering their luggage, they hailed a taxi to take them to their hotel. Giles was paying for everything and Buffy was wondering where the money was coming from since Giles had been fired by the Council and had not gotten another job that she knew of since the school blew up costing him his librarian job. Giles had gotten a suite for them all to share. Buffy and Giles had their own room, while Xander and Anya shared the third room. After they had gotten settled, they decided to go out and check out the city. Lunch was first thing on the agenda. Gotham's weather was warm today, so they found a quaint little restaurant with an outside café. They took a few minutes to look over the menu and then ordered when the waiter came. As they waited for their meals they talked. Buffy was looking around the restaurant seeing that it was crowded. About three tables away from where they were sitting Buffy had noticed two really hot guys looking their way. She smiled at them and waved slightly. The dark-haired man returned her smile. She was brought back to her table as the waiter came with their food. As her plate was set in front of her, she turned to look at the two men to find that they were gone. Buffy shrugged her shoulders and began to eat and talk.
"There is definitely Sunnydale worthy. I hadn't noticed the disappearance of the vibe I usually felt in Sunnydale but it strong here." Buffy told them.
"I'll have to make some calls when we return to the hotel to see if I can find out there is a surge of activity here. I would say that Gotham is the new Sunnydale." Giles told them.
"I'll patrol tonight and every night we're here, but if this is going the way I think it is I may be making a move to Gotham."
They finished their meal and Giles grabbed the waiter attention so the waiter could get their bill.
"Sir, could we please have the check."
"Your bill has already been paid sir."
Giles looked at the others who shrugged. "May I ask who paid the bill?"
"The gentlemen who were sitting three tables away from you." He looked at Buffy. "I believe that the young lady here caught their eye. They told me to tell you thank you."
"For what?"
"I don't know Miss."
"Do you know who they were?" Giles asked.
"Yes sir. The young dark hair man was none other than Dick Grayson the ward of Bruce Wayne and heir to the Wayne fortune."
The others looked shocked as the waiter left them. Anya was the first one to speak.
"I've read about Bruce Wayne. He's got lots and lots of money. He owns a lot of places in Gotham."
"Looks like someone has some admirers." Xander said as they got up from the table.
"Those are the kind of admirers I don't mind. They were gorgeous." Buffy said with a dreamy look. They left the café and continued with their tour.
Later that night Buffy, Xander, and Anya went out on patrol. Buffy had told them to stay at the hotel with Giles, but Xander wasn't having it. Anya only came because she wasn't letting Xander go patrolling alone with Buffy. Plus, Buffy was sure Xander was hoping to meet Batman. They had been out patrolling for two hours with Xander and Anya playing as bait and the demons and vampires falling for it. Once Xander and Anya had grown tired, Buffy walked them back to the hotel before continuing her patrol. She was now in the park fighting a demon that had been attacking a girl. She had run at it full speed and put a lot of strength in her kick sending the demon flying back. Buffy helped the girl up.
"Run home! Don't stop until you get there."
The girl takes off in a run. Buffy turned her attention back to the approaching demon. Stake in hand she threw several punches at him. He blocked the first two, but the third made contact. The demon recovered quickly and made to slash at her. She quickly back flipped out of the claws reach. Reaching out with her senses, she could feel more demonic creatures of the night approaching her location. Several vampires saw the fight and decided to join in. Buffy knew they were there and was trying to find the best way to handle them while still fighting her demon. She had just thrown the demon and turned to take care of the vampires when she saw one of the vampires go down. Looking at the vampire, she saw that it was tangled in a Spanish bola. She looked in the direction that the bola had come in and saw, a striking man in a black and blue outfit with a mask covering his eyes, watching her. She nodded her appreciation and moved to stake it. He joined her in her fight against the vamps. Buffy was fighting two while her companion fought one.
"Catch. Aim for the heart." Buffy said tossing him one of her spare stakes.
He caught it with ease. While they were fighting the vamps, the demon had finally managed to get his wits about him. It moved with an incredible speed toward Buffy. Buffy had just staked one of her vampires when she saw the demon charging out of the corner of her eye. It was attacking her from behind. She had to time it perfectly. The demon was charging with its claws raised. She dropped down as the claws came toward her. The demon's claws took off the vampire's head. Buffy made her move as it turned to dust. She threw the bola at the demon and watched as it fell to the earth. Quickly she went for its head and snapped its neck. As the demon fell motionless to the ground, she looked up to see how her companion had faired.
"You all right?" She asked.
"I'm fine. What were those things?" Buffy was about to answer when a shadow came up behind Nightwing.
"My first night on the job and not only do I run into Nightwing but Batman too. Don't look so surprise Bats. I've done my homework about Gotham. I'd love to stay and chat, but the creatures of the night are hungry, and I don't plan on letting anyone be on their menu."
"Who are you?" Batman asked in a menacing voice.
"You'll have to walk with me if you want the answers. Excuse me a minute." She turned slightly and threw her stake at a vampire. It hit its mark and she retrieved it. "Okay. You asked who am I right? Buffy Summers the slayer. I'm here to help with your current infestation.
"Slayer?" Nightwing asked.
"That's me. A new breed of evil has moved into this town and it's my job to stop it."
As she continued to move Batman and Nightwing followed her. They both wanted to find out more about her. Before anyone could say anything, the bat signal lit the sky.
"I believe that's for you." She said pointing toward the sky. Without saying a word, the two left.
Buffy had gotten back to the hotel around four that morning. She entered her suite to see everyone was already in bed. She went to her room, quickly showered, put her pajamas on, and went to bed. Buffy woke about ten that morning. When she came out of her room it was to see a huge bouquet of roses sitting there.
"Good morning Buffy." Giles greeted her from where he sat. "Those arrived for you a little bit ago."
"Looks like you made an impression." Xander said from where he and Anya were sitting on the couch.
Buffy walked over to vase of roses and smelt them before looking for the card. Pulling the card out she was surprised at who sent them.
The card read: Welcome to Gotham. NW
"Well? Who sent you a two dozen red roses?" Xander asked.
"There from Nightwing."
"Nightwing? You met Nightwing last night? After you walked us back to the hotel?" Xander asked. Buffy nodded yes.
"And Batman too."
"I'm so jealous. I knew we should have kept patrolling with you."
"But Xander then we wouldn't have been able to come back here and have multiple orgasm." Anya reminded him. Buffy just rolled her eyes.
"Giles were any of your contacts able to tell you why Gotham has suddenly turned into a Hellmouth?" Buffy asked.
"I've talk to several of my former colleagues and they've never heard of such a thing like that happening before. They said they would see what they could find out. They have yet to get back to me."
"So, what's the game plan for today?" Xander asked. "Anya and I want to do some sight-seeing."
"Not much we can do until we figure out why the Sunnydale Hellmouth closed up and this one opened. Go ahead and go sightseeing maybe by the time you return I'll have answers." Giles told him.
"Sweet. Wanna come Buff?" Xander asked.
"No, I think I'll see where the nearest mall is. I promised Dawn I would her back a few things."
Xander nodded and he and Anya left a few minutes later. Buffy went and made herself some coffee and drank it while looking up where the nearest mall was at.
Buffy had taken a taxi to the mall. The cab dropped her off in front of a store and Buffy entered the store taking in the beautiful dresses. She found a cute cocktail dress that she would look fabulous in until she looked at the price.
"That dress definitely has your name on it."
A voice called from behind her. She turned around to see the man from the restaurant yesterday standing behind her. The dark-haired man was smiling admiringly at her and the dress.
"It may have my name on it but it's going to be somebody else's. Much too pricey for my purse." She said putting it on the rack again. "Thanks for the lunch yesterday. Buffy Summers."
She held out her hand. He took her hand and kissed it.
"Dick Grayson. The pleasure was all mine I assure you. Would you consider letting me take you to lunch today?"
"Yes."
"Yes, you'll consider it or yes you'll come to lunch?" He asked with one of his charming smiles. Buffy felt her stomach start doing flip-flops.
"Both." Dick presented his arm to her and she took it. The two left the department store together.
Dick and Buffy had gone to a restaurant that was located within the mall. They ordered and then talked while waiting for their food. Buffy gave him an edited version of why they were in Gotham saying it was for business and that she might possibly be moving to Gotham if things worked out.
"Did you always live in Sunnydale?"
"No, I was born in LA and we moved to Sunnydale when I was sixteen. What about you?"
"When I was younger my family was the Flying Grayson's in Haley's circus. So, I used to travel a lot."
"Growing up in a circus must have been great."
"It was." He grew quiet for a minute and Buffy could see that he was reliving a memory.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bring up any bad memories."
"You haven't. I was thinking of my parents. They died when I was nine."
"I'm sorry that must have been hard on you."
"It was but Bruce and Alfred helped me get through it."
There was a slight awkward silence between them. Before either of them could say anything, the food arrived.
"How about after we finish eating, I show you around the city?"
"I'd like that. Gotham is a lot bigger than Sunnydale. So, what brings you here to the mall?"
"I was looking for a present for Bruce. His birthday is in three weeks and he just impossible to buy for. What do you get the man who can have everything and does? I got some time still and I much rather be showing you around the city."
Buffy and Dick finished their meal and ordered dessert. Once dessert was over Dick paid the bill and they left the restaurant. As they walked Buffy was thinking that things in Gotham were certainly becoming interesting. In a two day span she met Dick Grayson and Nightwing, and both men seemed interested in her.
