"Liz! Patty! Soul resonace!" Said Kid as he fought through kishin eggs.
Kids mission was a simple one. Hunt down 2 twin witches before they can release the 18 kishin eggs onto the city in Michigan. It was also perfect because if completed corrrectly Kid will have Liz and Patty as his death scythes. After that he will be able to connect his lines, then he will be the shinigami.
It was going good so far, the eggs were down to 5. A blast from 'Death Canon' took care of them. Liz and Patty transformed back to human form and ate the souls.
"Phew this mission is sure a doozy. At least we finally found the lair. Took 3 weeks but we did it," said Liz.
"And not a moment to soon. I cant wait to get the witches souls and we can return home. I wonder how Maka is doing," said Kid as they walked through the hideout.
"I miss Chrona," said Patty sadly. "My little awkward boy."
"I know Patty, I miss Soul as well. We havent been dating for long but I've liked him for awhile so..." Liz trailed off as she saw a hidden door in the floor. "Hey Kid, think they might be in here?"
"Only one way to find out, transform girls," said Kid.
Patty and Liz did so without hesitation and Kid shot the lock. The door slammed itself open and a vine grabbed Kid around the ankle and dragged him down. When he landed he looked around and saw a girl sitting there crying.
She had red hair and big green eyes. She looked to be about 15 and had dirt on her cloths. She gasped in fear at Kid and backed up to the opposite wall. Kid put his hands up and Liz and Patty returned to human form.
"Hey its okay we arent going to hurt you. We are with the DWMA. Can you stand?" Said Liz.
The girl nodded and stood up.
"A-Are you here to kill those 2 witches? They locked me down here cause I tried to stop them. They were going to destroy my home. I guess brooms arent effective on wicthes though," said the girl.
"Do you know where they went?" Asked Kid.
"Yeah to the town. The door is fragile though, so I think if you shoot up it it will open. I havent been able to reach it," said the girl.
"Alright Liz Patty once more transform," said Kid.
They did so and he turned to shoot at the door. Just as he was about to he felt something hit his side and turned to see the girl smiling wickidly. She said something and he suddenly felt his body get shocked. Liz and Patty screamed as they got shocked to. Kid managed to stumble away from the girl and saw her cackling.
"So your one of the witches huh? Where is the other?" Said Kid as he stood up and got in a fighting stance.
"Im right here reaper boy," whispered a voice in his ear.
He turned and got backhanded by another girl who looked similar to the other. He flew a couple feet but flipped in the air and landed on his feet.
"Soul resonance stable."
Good, lets fire." He pointed Liz and Patty at them and fired eight rounds. When the dust cleared he was surprised to see that they were unfazed and looking at their nails in boredom. He cursed as he tried to figure out a different strategy but was interupted.
"Well looks like our turn." They said in unison as they put their hands together and started mumbling a spell. The floor around Kid turned a bright pink color and he rolled away from the center and tried to make it to the outside. He made it with some difficulty and he took the chance to fire at them again. They ducked and ran towards where he was.
He decided to try what his dad taught him, to connect his lines, so he closed his eyes and thought of Liz and Patty. He remembered how much he grew to love and care for them. He thought of all the fun times they had and how lucky he was to find them. As he did this one of his lines connected and in a bright blue light erupted from his body blowing the witches back.
Liz and Patty felt a huge uproar of soul energy being pushed their way and they did a resonance with it. The cannon grew stronger and bigger as it loaded up ready to fire. the two girls did a zigzag pattern to avoid the direct line he was going to shoot, so he waited till they both hit the path of his shot before he fired. The blast singed the girls hair and skin, but they teleported away and reappeared behind him with their hands clasped
They kicked him hard in the back of the head and his face hit the ground. He got up unfazed and cursed as he took a swing at them but they teleported once again.
"Kid be careful, they can apparently teleport by sharing there witch energy!" Said Liz as she was watching them closely.
"No, they're doing what Black*star does and upped there strength to gain speed." He said as he ran around trying to avoid their hits but failing.
'I need to improve my eyesight…' He thought. He closed his eyes and concentrated on Black*star and Soul. He remembered how they grew so much together as friends. He went from thinking nothing of them to the world of them. They were his best friends.
He opened his eyes and was able to see their shadows as they moved since another line connected. He followed them with his eyes and was able to block the next attack and send them flying with the shot from Patty.
"Oh my gosh! Our soul caliber increased to .48 from .44!" Proclaimed Liz.
"This is so cool! We are so bad ass!" Squealed Patty.
'Not enough, I need more power, but how?' Thought Kid as one of them kicked at him from the front. He blocked that but couldn't see the other one that was behind him. She drove her hand up into his back, piercing flesh and coming up through his stomach. He coughed up blood and looked down in surprise. The witch then pulled her hand out and kicked him in the back to the ground.
"Kid!" Said both Liz and Patty as they started to transform into human form.
"NO STAY IN WEAPON FORM! THAT'S AN ORDER!" said Kid as he held his stomach.
He didn't want them to be hurt as well. he looked up as the witches were laughing and they both stood over him and put one hand in the air and started chanting. Kid thought of Maka, of her smile, her eyes, her hair. he closed his eyes as he thought back to all the memories they shared.
It was then that his body was engulfed in a bright green light that once again flung the withces back into a wall, cracking it. they coughed and spit up blood as he rose from the ground and the hole in his stomach closed on its own.
"Soul resonance Liz and Patty." He said. they did and the cannons turned into two bazooka's and he held them on his shoulder as he aimed at the two witches who were paralyzed form breaking their spines.
"Death blast," He said as a ball of green light shot out and in an instant everything in its path was vaporized, including the metal door that led to the exit. the two witches souls floated into his hands and he fed them to Liz and Patty. They were then lifted into the air and engulfed in a pink light. they were transformed from pistols, into 2 mini, one handed use, rifles, with skulls painted on the side. Kid stood in amazement as he thought about what just happened.
'I did it, father I did it!' He thought as tears fell from his eyes. Liz and Patty turned into human form and hugged each other as they cried with joy. they reached out and dragged Kid in and they stood there, with each other crying and laughing. eventually Kid pulled away and began to call his father.
The mirror rang for a while before he finally got an answer, but from Stein.
"Hey Kid how did the mission go?" Asked Stein.
"Wheres my father?" Asked Kid.
"I assume it went good?"
"Yeah it was completed. I connected the lines and Liz and Patty are death sycthes now. Im on my way back now. Im going to use a portal to teleport so we can begin the ceremony of me being the new shinigami. Tell father im on my way?"
"... Hurry up and come quick Kid."
The line went dead. Kid got a bad feeling in his gut but instead of dwelling on it he made a portal. It was new skill he learned, it couldn't lead into the death room, but it put him right out front of the DWMA. Liz and Patty turned into weapons so they could travel easier (he cant keep the protals open long enough for all 3 to go through yet).
"Damn now I see why Dad had me lit a bunch, you guys got heavy!" He said.
"Well at least we are small enough to fit in one hand and be easy use one handed!" said Liz.
"Thankfully yes. I wouldnt be able to deal with the lack of symmetry," said Kid shuddering just thinking about it.
They walked through the protal to the DWMA.

At the DWMA, things were not as good. Death had Stein and Spirit stay back and they stood expectantly while Death thought of how to say this.
"Well Kid is fighting throught the witches lair right now. He will be completing his mission today. So before that happens I have to tell you guys some stuff," He said.
"Oh cool! I cant wa-ugh!" Started Spirit but Stein hit him on the back of the head.
"Do you know what this means Spirit? Kid is going to become the new shinigami by the end of this," said Stein.
"Yeah, but thats good right? Then he can come back and Lord Death can make him official right?" Replied Spirit.
"Im sad to say thats not the case death sycthe," said Death as he poured a cup of tea. "Once Kid connects his lines, he will have the power of the shinigami. Once that happens I have to move on to the next life."
"...WHAT!?" Exclaimed Spirit.
Stein sighed as he saw Spirits eyes water and put his arm around him comfortingly. Marie taught him a bit of how to comfrot someone before they broke up.
"Yup. So today will be my last day with you and everyone. It was an interesting many years. Had its ups and downs. Before I go thought I must tell you guys some stuff I didn't get to tell Kid okay?"
"Hang on let me grab a pen and paper. I feel like this will be a lot sir," said Stein.
"Alright here we go," said Death as he began telling Stein what to pass onto Kid. Stein took full notes and by the end of it he had 9 peices of paper. "And that about does it. You dont have to tell him today, you can chose when he finds out-URCK!"
Death grabbed his chest and heaved in pain. Spirit stood up hurriedly but Stein grabbed his arm.
"Well looks like my kiddo did it. He just connected 2 lines. Last thing I have to say is it was an honor having you guys beside me. Take care of my son please? I want him to grow up happy and prepared-ACK!" Said Death in his normal voice. His mask fell away revealing his face to Stein and Spirit.
"We will sir. It was an honor to be a meister of yours. I will watch over the young ones and help lead then to the new age," said Stein.
Spirit nodded his agreement as tears fell from his eyes. He couldnt talk, or else his sobs he was surprasing would be at full volume. Finally Death took one last breath before he then went still. His body disolved, leaving his mask and cloak behind.
Spirit finally let the sobs escape his throat. He hugged Stein and Stein hugged him back as he even felt great sadness. He didnt cry, but he felt the dispair in him at losing there leader.
"We need to tell the kids. Ill wait for Kids call of report. Can you go tell them?" Said Stein.
"Yeah. I've cried all I will cry. I got this," said Spirit with a thumbs up.
Stein gave him a kiss before they parted.
