Chapter 5

REI

"Wai-What?!" I exclaimed. I shifted my look at the person seating beside me as if asking her to back me up. She didn't say a thing.

We were again called by our parents for supposedly just a dinner and they broke the news to us. What's new though was that Yuuya was called with us. He sure is enjoying this.

"Rei!" my mom reprimanded me for slightly raising my voice on them.

"What's with the rush? I thought we agreed to have it next year?" I asked. Seriously, someone back me up here!

"You were getting married anyway, why not do it now instead of waiting for next year? Everything is settled," Aya's mom said. Now I'm beginning to understand Aya.

"But June? That's next month."

We have just started to adjust with our new routines. Ever since our social status and engagement had been announced to the public three months ago, our schedules were changed. We've been attending interviews, photoshoots, social events and all. On top of that we still do have our academics. I just wonder how Aya has been coping up knowing that she's much more studious than I do.

"As Lady Sayu said, everything is settled. We just need you to do the final fitting and attend the wedding itself."

"We still have our finals by the end of May," hoping that would change their minds.

"No worries. We will cancel everything for this month. Focus on your studies." she said casually. "Why are you so against with the idea? Look at Aya," What do you expect from her? She been the obedient daughter.

"Uhm-ano-," I heard her joining the conversation. Finally! "Lady Aki-"

"Mom. I told you to call me Mom, right?" I rolled my eyes which earned me a scolding look from my mother.

"O-okay. Mom," mom nodded in approval. "If I may, I still have my practical exam by June." I looked at Lady Sayu. She seems to be in doubt. "If probably wr could move it to July at least?"

"Is that so? If that's the case then I guess we have no choice but to move it to July. Right, Sayu? Kei?"

"I'd agree to that. Their studies is still our priority."

"July wedding it is then! I can't wait to see you on that white dress, my dear."

And the dinner went on with the typical asking of how are we. They just let go of the topic as if it was normal of our age to be talking about marriage. We were never normal.

"Sayu, I have to go. I still have an appointment with the board," her dad said while looking at his watch. Such a busy man. "I'm sorry to cut our dinner short."

"No worries, Kei. We fully understand," both Aya and I grew in this type of environment where our parents are always MIA. It was nothing new.

"The adults will retire tonight. But please go ahead and spend some more time with each other." My mom's embarrassing me. Yuuya was chuckling at the other end. I'll have a word with him later.

"I'm sorry, my Lady but I do have an appointment as well." Don't you dare!

"Ah! The yes, I understand. The young Honda is waiting, am I right?" he blushed at that. Serves you right, Yuuya. "Go on. We won't be keeping you then." then my mother turned to me. "Make sure to bring Aya home before ten, got that?" I nodded. What would we be doing that late anyway?

Both of our mothers kissed her cheek for farewell, our dads shook my hand.

"I'll leave you two love birds then. Ja!" Yuuya just left without letting us say another word.

I sighed and massaged my temples. It has been very tiring.

"Are you alright?" I almost forgot that she's still there standing beside me. Her face looking concerned.

"Yeah. Just tired," I managed to say as I took a seat, her following behind.

"Maybe we should go home too."

I shook my head, "That would be more troublesome. My mom would definitely give me a long lecture if I get home early."

She giggled. I looked at her. "Your mom really is something."

"While yours is truly scary."

"I know." she agreed easily. Well it was too obvious anyway. "You lied anyways," I said changing the subject.

"What?"

"About your practical exam. I think your mom knows it too."

"I do have a practical exam next month. But it isn't that major. Basically it was a white lie," she said. "It was too sudden anyway. What were they thinking moving it next month?"

"So you are against it?" I said. "There I thought you're excited to have me tied down."

"Was that supposed to be a joke?" she asked.

"Partly true, maybe. You tell me." But really, I was just joking. Somehow I wanted to see her fumed reaction. How long does it take for Hoshino Aya to be in that composure.

She sighed. "Do we have anywhere else to go right now?" she asked suddenly diverting the conversation to another topic.

"Why don't you tell me?" I'm not letting go that easily.

"What do you want to hear?" there it is. I can see her starting to snap out. Best I can do is not to let the public see that we are arguing. So I grabbed her hand and led her to the parking space into my car.

"Get in," I told her as I opened the passenger's seat.

"Why?"

"Just get in." and she did, pulling the door and slammed it hard not caring if my hand would get caught in between. I went to the other side and got in as well.

"Now what?" she asked the moment I closed my side of the car.

"Hey are you-," I was about to reach out to her to wipe the now forming tears from her eyes when she shoved my hands. "Aya-"

"What do you want me to say?" she repeated the unanswered question earlier. Her face all flushed. She was trying too hard to fight back the tears. Her eyes directly looking at me.

I sighed. What do I want her to say? I'm not sure myself. "I'll take you home." I said as I broke off the eye contact and started the car. I could see from my peripheral vision that she's still looking at me. "You're not letting go of this, are you?"

She didn't answer. Fine if this is what she wants. "Tell me. Do you still love me?" I asked her.

"Wha-"

"You don't have to answer that. Let's just call this a night. I'll take you home." She didn't argue anymore and just fastened her seat belt.

There was total silence during the ride. I kept on stealing glances at her but she was too busy looking outside her side of the window to even notice.

I've been always setting myself up to this kind of situation. First agreeing to date her just because Ran told me so and I wanted her to shut up. Now, agreeing to marry her for the sake of saving her from marrying someone far more worst than I am. Why do I care anyway?
