Their Happiness is Her Happiness
Molly Weasley remembers the day that her first child was born. It was a cold November morning, not cold enough for snow but cold enough for a warm fire to be going. She had just finished lunch with her husband, Arthur, when she had her first contraction. Upon realizing that it wasn't just any cramp, she demanded that Arthur take her to St. Mungo's Hospital. Arthur complied with no complaining; he learned early on in the pregnancy that you don't want to get on Molly's bad side.
They safely reached the hospital and the Healers hurried Molly off to the maternity ward. She was in labor for a total of three hours and twenty five minutes. Their first born son came out wailing at the top of his little lungs, face bright red as the Healers cleaned him off and handed him over to Molly.
After only one glance at him, Molly knew that she would stop the world if it gave him happiness.
"Hello there William. I'm so happy to meet you," Molly whispered to her son as she kissed him tenderly on his forehead.
Yes, Molly Weasley would do anything for her child.
It was a little over six months when William, 'Bill', spoke his first word. Molly was cooking in the kitchen, while Bill was sitting on the ground, playing with a wooden horse. He suddenly stopped playing with the horse, getting bored with it and wanted some motherly attention.
"Mm...ma...mm...ma," Bill whines out as he reaches for his mother. "Mmma...ma...mmmmama. Mama!"
Molly froze at this point. Slowly turning around, she faced her son. Little tears fell down his face as his cute chubby hands continued to open and close as he reached for his mother.
"Mama!"
Molly choked back a sob as tears of happiness slowly ran down her cheeks. She walked over and picked Bill up, who immediately snuggled into her warmth. Arthur strolled into the kitchen to find Molly silently crying as she held Bill.
"Molly dear, what's the matter," Arthur asked his wife.
"He said mama," Molly said as she smiled. "I-I'm so happy, he said mama."
Arthur smiled as he walked over and hugged Molly and his son.
"Of course he would," Arthur said as he kissed her lightly on her cheek. "Of course he would."
"Come on Bill. You got this," Molly said as she watched her son take a shaky step forward. "There you go. One step at a time."
Arthur watched Molly as she helped guide Bill as he slowly started to learn how to walk. A small smile graced his face as Bill successfully reached Molly's outstretched arms. Molly smiled as she picked Bill up. She congratulated Bill on a job well done, and Arthur walked over to them. Molly spotted Arthur and smiled at her husband.
"Hello darling. It looks like Bill will be walking by himself pretty soon," Arthur commented.
"You think so?"
"I know so. He has a wonderful teacher," Arthur told Molly as he kissed her cheek.
Molly sat in her living room as she knitted a sweater. Bill waddled over to Molly, holding a drawing that he made.
"Mama! For you," Bill said.
"Thank you Bill," Molly said.
She looked at the drawing to see that he drew Arthur, Bill and herself, though her stomach was a bit larger than normal. She smiled as she looked at her son.
"Thank you Bill. It's lovely," Molly told him.
"Mama. When will little brother come," Bill asked her.
"Any day Bill. Any day," Molly told him.
"Ok! I be best big brother," Bill declared, giving his mother his brightest smile.
"Of course you will. There is no doubt in my mind," Molly told him, kissing him on the forehead.
Bill smiled and he waddled over to play with his toys. Molly leaned back, beaming with content. Yes, Bill will be the best big brother that he can be. She just knows it.
Bill looked down at his younger brother, Charles 'Charlie' Weasley. Charlie slept soundly in his crib, while Bill sucked his thumb. He looked down at the stuffed dragon in his hands, then back at his brother. Carefully he placed it in Charlie's crib, so that he would have some company while he slept. Charlie wrapped his fingers around the stuffed dragon, pulling it into a hug as he continued to sleep.
"Bill? Where are you? It's time for lunch," Molly called out as she entered the room.
Bill waddles over to his mother. Molly picked him up, spotting the stuffed dragon that Charlie was clutching to.
"Bill, did you give Charlie your stuffed dragon to sleep with," Molly asked him.
"Yeah. Sleeping is better when Dragon protects me. I thought Charlie would want Dragon to protect him as well," Bill said.
"That was very sweet of you to give it to Charlie. Do you want some lunch?"
"Yeah! Fruit and sandwich," Bill said gleefully.
"Of course," Molly said as she headed towards the kitchen with Bill, leaving Charlie in his crib with Dragon to protect him.
"Bill! Stop getting Charlie excited. It's almost bedtime," Molly told her eldest son, hearing her children giggling from the direction of their room.
"Sorry Mum," Bill said as the giggling stops.
Molly sighed as she finished cleaning the kitchen. Once she was done, she walked towards her sons' rooms. She heard Charlie silently giggling, and opened his door, only to see that Charlie wasn't in there. She heard some more giggling coming from Bill's room. She glanced in to see a pillow and blanket fort in the center of Bill's room, and crouched down to see Bill and Charlie doing shadow puppets. Charlie giggled as Bill made his shadow puppet 'eat' Charlie's shadow puppet. A small smile graced her features.
"I think that's enough shadow puppets for tonight boys. You can make some more tomorrow," she said.
"Ok," they said in unison as Molly stepped back so they could crawl out of the fort.
Bill climbed into his bed. Molly said goodnight as she headed towards Charlie's room, tucking him in.
Arthur held Bill and Charlie's hand as he led them to where Molly and the newest addition to their family were staying in St. Mungo's Hospital.
"Is Mummy alright," six-year-old Bill asked his father as they approached Molly's room.
"Yes. She is perfectly fine," Arthur said.
Arthur let go of Bill's hand so that he could open the door. Molly looked over at her family grinning as Bill and Charlie hurried over to her.
"Mummy," they both shouted out as they climbed onto the bed.
"Hello my little darlings. I hope you had a nice trip here. There is someone I want you to meet," Molly said. They spot the little bundle of blanket that their mother was holding. "Meet your little brother Percy."
Bill and Charlie peered at their brother in awe. Arthur smiled from the doorway as they welcomed the newest member to their growing family.
Charlie lightly poked Percy's cheek as Molly cooked dinner. Bill was with Arthur, pelting him with 'why' questions. Percy looked at Charlie with a frown on his chubby baby cheeks.
"Dinner," Molly called out as Charlie poked Percy's cheek again.
"Coming dear," Arthur said from his office.
Charlie stood up and walked towards the dining room as Arthur and Bill exited his office. Molly grabbed Percy as she made the dishes float over to the table. Once Molly sat down, they started to eat. Arthur helped Charlie while Molly helped Bill. They relaxed and ate as a family. Percy soon fell asleep in Molly's arms.
"I'm going to go and put Percy in his crib," Molly said quietly.
"Alright. I can watch over these two while you're doing that," Arthur said.
"Thanks," Molly said as she headed towards Percy's room.
When she reached the room, she carefully placed Percy in his crib. Molly left Percy to sleep, wishing him pleasant dreams.
Molly knew that the twins would be a handful. Not only because they were identical, but because their birthday was April 1st. She just knew that they would be pranksters. Call it a mother's intuition, she thought grimly.
"The twins are going to be a handful," Molly tells Arthur as she successfully puts them both to sleep.
"You sure," Arthur asks.
"Yup. They were born on April 1st. If that's not a warning, then I don't know what else it is," Molly tells Arthur.
"Well, only time will tell."
"Yeah."
"Give Teddy back," Percy demands as he looks at Charlie.
"I don't have Teddy," Charlie tells him.
"Give Teddy back or I'll take Dragon," Percy says as Molly enters the room.
"What seems to be the problem," Molly asks her sons.
"Charlie took Teddy and won't give him back!"
"I didn't take Teddy, I swear!"
Molly looks between her children. She can tell that they are both telling the truth.
"Um...Mom? I found this in the twin's room," Bill says as he enters with a stuffed bear.
"Teddy," Percy cries out as he hurries over and takes the bear from Bill.
"Well, looks like we know who the culprit...er culprits were," Charlie says.
"When will Mom and the baby be home," Bill asked his father.
"Soon," Arthur said.
"Alright. Should I wake the others up? Or will they meet him in the morning," Bill asked.
"Tomorrow. Shouldn't you be in bed as well?"
"I'm not tired. Plus I want to help Mum when she gets home," Bill said eagerly, shifting from one foot to the next.
"Alright," Arthur said as Molly appeared with a bundle of blankets.
"Bill, you should go to sleep. It's past your bedtime," Molly exclaimed as she spotted her oldest son with her husband.
"But I wanted to help you and meet my new brother," Bill said.
"Oh, alright. But straight to bed afterwards."
"Ok Mum," Bill said, taking one of the bags from her hands.
He glanced at his brother Ronald. He was sleeping peacefully in their mother's arms. Once he was done helping, Bill went off to bed. Molly watched him as he left, a small smile on her face. I'm so lucky to have him in my life.
"Tag! You're it," Charlie shouts out as he successfully tags Bill.
Bill smiles as he lunges for Charlie, only to miss and fall on the ground. Charlie laughs as he dances out of Bill's reach. Percy watches them from the porch. He rolls his eyes and continues to flip through his picture book.
"Come on Percy! Join us," Charlie calls to his brother as the twins toddle away from Bill.
"No. I'm fine," Percy says as he goes back to looking at the pictures.
"Suit yourself," Charlie says as Bill lightly tags George.
George stops running and he tags Fred
"Tag!"
Fred then proceeds to tag George back.
"Tag!"
The twins continue to try and tag the other, and run away at the same time. For s couple of minutes, this continues as Bill and Charlie watches a couple of feet away.
"Lunch time," Molly calls from the front door.
The twins stop tagging each other and they start to run to the front door. Bill and Charlie raced after them. Percy is already inside, sitting at the table eating as he continues to look at the pictures in the book. Suddenly, Charlie tripped on a loose rock. He shouted in surprise as he fell to the ground. Molly's eyes widened and she hurried over to Charlie. She kneed beside her son as he sat up.
"Are you alright Charlie?"
"Yeah. I just scraped my knee," Charlie told Molly.
"Let me see it."
Molly looked at the scrape as she pulled her wand out. She muttered a healing spell. Charlie looked in awe as his scrape closed up.
"There! Now then, let's go eat," Molly said as she stood up.
They then head inside to have lunch.
"A SISTER?!"
Arthur winces at the volume that his sons have shouted. Ron looks up from the wooden blocks he was playing with.
"Yes, you have a baby sister. Her name is Ginny. We are going to go and visit your mother and her at St. Mungo's right now," Arthur tells them. "So get your shoes on. We don't have all day."
Bill, Charlie and Percy hurry off while the twins toddle after them. Arthur picks Ron up as he drops the wooden block that he was holding. Arthur uses his wand to bring Ron's shoes to him. He then places them on his feet as the rest of his sons make it back. They use the floo network to get to St. Mungo's Hospital. Once there, a healer directs them to Molly's room. Arthur opens the door as the boys silently enter. Molly smiles as she sees who has made it.
"I'm glad you made it. You boys want to see your sister?"
Bill and Charlie nod their head as they walk to Molly's beside. Molly slightly angles the bundle of blankets so that they can see Ginny's face.
"She's cute," Bill says as Charlie nods his head in agreement.
Molly smiles as she looks around the room at her family. Everything was perfect.
Bill and Charlie stare at the Hogwarts Express in awe. Bill's owl, Errol, glances around in boredom. Molly holds Ron and Ginny, the latter of the two fast asleep. The twins smile at each other as they hold onto Arthur's hand.
"You got everything Bill," Arthur asks his son.
"Yup!"
"Good. Now then, don't forget to write home and stay out of trouble," Molly reminds her son.
"I promise that I will," Bill says.
The train blows its whistle, reminding the last minute boarders to get on.
"I'll see you at Christmas time," Bill tells them as he gives his parents a last hug before boarding the train.
Molly smiles as Bill waves once last time, before disappearing into the train. There wasn't anything she wouldn't do for her children. At the end of the day, their happiness is her happiness.
