Previously, even though it is cold and still raining all around them Kagome and Naraku didn't mind. Naraku was honestly laughing for what seemed like the first time in forever while Kagome was unconsciously finding comfort through Naraku's laugh.
Naraku took a breath in and breathed it out slowly.
When was the last time I laughed like this? Too long, it has been truly too long... Naraku found himself thinking.
Finishing his fit of laughter and mirth Naraku realized Kagome had stopped her ranting and is now staring at him quite intensely. In which, he found himself staring right back at her, but unlike Kagome, he was able to voice his thoughts.
"It has truly been a long time since I last laughed like that, I cannot even recall when it was..." a small sad smile graced Naraku's lip as he continued, "I always thought the next time I laughed of pure bliss would be because of the suffering of others or obtaining the Sacred Jewel for myself, but never did it cross my mind I would find myself truly laughing because a human girl who is supposed to be my enemy started to understand me..."
As Naraku continued to look at Kagome he noticed how she is not trembling in fear as much as earlier, there was not as much hate in her eyes towards him and the fear in her scent had also lessened slightly once again.
"Impossible," Kagome said without realizing it.
Did he just say what I think he said? Like, me? Understand him? Him? No way.
As Kagome continued thinking about what Naraku said she kept staring at him which lead to Naraku wearing a slight smirk on his face.
Being in a good mood, Naraku teased, "Did your mother never teach you it is impolite to stare at people so openly?"
Kagome embarrassed she had been caught blatantly staring looked down and temporarily forgot who was talking to.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to stare. I just got so distracted by your laugh."
Naraku was amused, "You never heard anyone laugh before?"
Kagome feeling somewhat flustered did not quite know what to say, but tried her best to answer the half-demon standing in front of her.
"Well, of course, I have. I just never heard you laugh like that. You have no idea how different that laugh was compared to your usual laugh. Your usual laugh makes me sick in the stomach and wants to purify you to ashes... But this laugh makes me..."
Naraku raised his right brow in curiosity at what Kagome had to say, and unable to hold his teasing back any longer he started stepping closer to her. Kagome was to busy with her thoughts to notice Naraku approaching her until he was mere inches away from her. When she did realize how close he was she quickly tried to move back, away from him but she had nowhere to go, he had backed her up to the tree they have been using to hide from the rain. Kagome was about to start struggling but before she could Naraku lowered his head down and whispered in her ear with a voice laced with dangerous huskiness, "What does my honest laugh make you feel wench?"
Too astonished by Naraku's action to even think, Kagome said the most intelligent thing that popped into her head, "Huh?"
Naraku was truly enjoying his time playing with the young human girl.
She is proving to be too entraining for her own good, he thought to himself.
Naraku moved away from his previous position near Kagome's ear and stared right into her honest blue eyes straight on while still having a little smirk on his face.
"I said, what does my honest laugh make you feel wench?"
Kagome took a deep breath, for better or worse because of Naraku's advance on her she really could not remember what she going to say about his laugh. A bit frustrated at herself for forgetting so easily in a pouting voice she answered Naraku, "I forgot what I was about to say..."
Naraku in a swift motion tilted Kagome's chin up using his left hand, "Oh truly, now?"
Kagome now annoyed by Naraku's antics snapped, "Yes, truly. Now get away from me, Naraku. Before I purify that hand of your's."
Again, Naraku could not help recklessly speaking his thoughts.
"Truly wench? Then why? Why have you not tried to purify me this whole time? And why did you stop me from leaving, wench?"
Kagome scrunched her brows out of frustration and yanked her chin out of Naraku's gentle hold.
"Why you ask? You're stronger than me. Faster than me. With a flick of your wrist, you can kill me right here, right now! I'm saving purify you to ashes as my last resort! And I didn't stop you from leaving, I just asked you questions I needed to be answered! Naraku, don't you dare think you're good company because news flash, you're not. You're the epidemy of all evil! You've hurt countless demons and humans alike! It's because of you, Inuyasha and Kikyo hurt each other and might never be happy together! It's because of you Mirku is cursed with the Wind Tunnel! It's because of you Sango's village was wiped out! And don't get me started about Kohaku! You mind controlled him to hurt Sango! You're still using him to do your evil bidding! And all for what?! The Sacred Jewel! Everything for a jewel! You greedy bastard! Heed my words Naraku, I Kagome Higurashi, loathe you with all my heart! I hate you! I hate everything that is you!"
Kagome was breathing heavily and her eyes have started to water from her outburst, but even after all that she still was not done.
"And me! Naraku, if you just didn't pin Inuyasha and Kikyo against each other by tricking them to believe they betrayed each other most likely I wouldn't be here! I wouldn't be a heartbroken piece of crap! Sure, I might still be Kikyo's reincarnation, but if you didn't ruin their happiness Inuyasha and Kikyo would have had their happily ever after and I'd never have been sent here to fix the mess you made!"
Kagome was now thoroughly exhausted by her violent emotions to the extent where she has yet to realize she is crying. No one and she means no has ever coaxed out so much anger out of her in her whole entire life. Even the worst of worst demons and humans she has meant during her journey in the Federal Era have never been able to cause Kagome to feel such a burning fire of rage.
Kagome was surprised by how much she hated the half-demon standing in front of her.
She has always believed everyone deserves a second chance and holding onto rage will only hurt oneself. But when it came to Naraku she could not do it. She could not simply forgive him. She could not let go of the hatred she has towards him. Even someone as loving and forgiving as Kagome had her limit and that limit was Naraku.
While Kagome was catching her breath from her outburst, Naraku continued to stand in front of her, never moving from his previous position. As he gazed down at Kagome somewhat tired expression his body, once again, moved on its own. His left hand moved up to Kagome's right cheek and started wiping away her shedding tears. Kagome being too emotionally drained did not bother to move away from Naraku's touch.
Instead, Kagome let out a heavy sigh before muttering, "I can't believe I'm crying in front of you... at this point, I don't even know why I'm crying."
Naraku was about to reply to Kagome's comment, but he could not. Before he could process what had occurred in a span of only seconds, what was done was done. Onigumo had fully resurfaced and he was forced back into his mind.
Onigumo not realizing he was in control spoke his thoughts.
"This would not be the first time I witness you crying and I have a feeling this will not be the last. And you are crying because you let your emotions get the best of you. What is there to be confused about?"
As Onigumo watched Kagome cried, he could not stop himself from reminiscing a raining day in his mostly forgotten human past.
If I remember correctly it was raining at that time as well. Yes, it was raining hard on her and I on that day... Our surroundings, we were in the middle of that rotten village. Everyone abandoned us. They left us there for dead. The sound of her sobbing pierced my heart more than any blade could. Blood. There was so much blood... and her face... her face... her face...
Not being able to remember the woman's face caused him to internally panic.
Why? Why can I not remember her face? Why?! No! I have to remember! I need to remember! No, God, you cannot take her away from me! Please! Please, God, do not do this to me! If I lose this memory than I will lose the last keepsake I have of her! No! Remember, Onigumo! Remember!
Instead of being consumed why Onigumo was able to take control of his body, from Onigumo memory loss, Naraku realized what was happening to him and his human counterpart.
I see it has started sooner than I presumed, Naraku knowingly thought.
And with delight, he added, You are finally disappearing, Onigumo.
