Chapter 8
Lucid Dream
The girl opened the front door. Right after that, a somewhat husky jumped to the girl, waggling its tail, eyes filled with excitement. It always does this when she comes home, after school or hang out with her friends. It's her best friend.
"Aww, missed me?", the girl said, patting the dog's head. It seemed so happy, like it haven't seen for days, even months!
"It really missed you though.", a woman voice spoke from the living room, it's her mom. "Now.", her mom said, down to serious tone. "Where have you been, Lily?".
The girl, who's Lily startled, she looked up to see her mom, arm crossed, waiting for an explanation. "Um, I was hanging out with my friends.", she said.
"Hanging out with your friend? I called some of them, they said your not with them.", her mom said, raising one of her eyebrow.
Lily just stands there, knowing she couldn't lie anymore.
"Did you came to that place again?".
"B-But mom! I was so close in finding proofs! Please just...". Before she could finished her sentence, her mom let out a big sigh.
"Oh Lily. How many times I've told you?", her mom stepped close to Lily, patted her head. "It's the past, just let it be. Besides, the cops already said that it's just an accident. A thing like that wouldn't do such a thing."She sound reassured, calming, it's because she is Lily's mother, it's because she cared for her, it's because she loved her. Like almost everyday, when she asked that question, Lily always said she was hanging out with her friends, or talking a walk at a nearby park, but most of them ended up being a lie, an innocent lie.
Lily didn't say anything but sighed anyways. "Fine, I'll just head to my room then.", said Lily, then she put her mother's hand away and started heading to her room, followed by the dog.
Lily's open her room. Her room tho, as a girl, it quite a mess, as most of them were newspaper from the past that she had collected them, as well as the the wooden board her father installed for her. He didn't care about her investigation, but did it for her anyways. On the board, there were lots, lots of pinned notes all round the board. Normally, Lily can understand what is shown under those chaotic red threads all over the place that connected some of the event happened around The Accident. Some were missing some its thread, some were full of it, like she was sure it connected somehow. But there's one, there's this one single note that was pinned on the middle of the board, nothing was connected to it, it just hanging there. The title "The Culprit" always make her feels unsatisfied, uncomfortable, the urge to find proofs that could prove who had hurt that kid never stopped, and only grew more and more urge.
sigh* If only I could remember what happen back then. Lily thought, that thought always make her feels regretful, as such a memory of a toddler couldn't keep long, it had to be faded away, and the only that stayed was the symbolism of that forgotten memory - The yellow bear. Lily sits on her bed, then lies on it, eyes facing the ceiling. The dog, which lied on the bed as well, still waggling its tail. Lily takes a look at it, the tail waggling faster. "Oh Walter, if only you can understand me.". The dog, which is Walter, tilted its head, innocence can be seen in its eyes, so childish and naive. *sigh* What am I even thinking. How can a dog even understand what I said? Lily thought, putting her hand on her forehead, eyes looking at the ceiling. No, I won't give up. And I'll never will. Lily thought, as the determination flows through her veins, energised her to keep investigating. I'll come back to that pizzeria tomorrow morning. Lily then sits up, Walter looked up also, tail waggling in excitement. *woof* The dog suddenly bark, Lily turned around to look at Walter, grinned.
"You'll always be my best friend Walter", She said as patting its head. Walter started licking the girls palm, although it's a few years olds, it still acted like a child, such an naive child. After that, Lily goes to the bathroom to take a shower.
Houser, now in his room opening his closet to take some clothes before taking a shower. His hands still shaking, seemed like he still shocked from what his friend had said. Calm down, Houser. It's just a sleep over. They, or it won't mind. Right? He thought to himself. Yeah... It won't mind... He thought again, before lying on his bed, letting out his very long sigh.
"You can do this. Just... act normally.", Houser muttered to himself, tried to calm himself, holding all of the emotions that tried to burst out. *thump* *thump* The sound of his pounding heart can be heard inside him, it beated so hard that he almost couldn't breath. "He won't find out. He's my only friend. I don't want him to leave me.", Houser muttered, again. After that, Houser stands up, takes the clothes and goes to the bathroom.
While Houser is taking a shower, Jeremy, who already did, is watching TV in the living room with his mind thinking elsewhere. He seemed freaked out. Did something happened to him? Jeremy thought. I'll just ask him later.
9:45 PM
Everything went fine, they had good meals, talking with his family about schools, playing video games together, everything was fine. After they've prepared, the boys are ready for the sleep party.
"So, what did you do at the library?", Jeremy asked, lying on the bed.
"Huh? W-What?", Houser jumped a bit, he was sitting at this desk. "H-How did you know?".
"Your aunt told me. Duh.", Jeremy said with sarcasm tone.
"O-oh. I-I was just doing some research.", Houser said, as he continuing writing in his notebook.
"Research? What's it about?", asked Jeremy
Houser stopped writing, his hearting started pounding again. "Uh-um, you know... science stuff. Things that you didn't like much.", he had hard time saying a lie to his friend, since he was always honest to him. But this, this is want Jeremy should not know about. For the sake of his friend, he lied. Even though it kind true...
"Science? Yep, definitely not my thing.", Jeremy said. He noticed how Houser responded, but didn't mind anyways. Then, he looked at the window, wide opened. "You should close the window before going to sleep, or if you want to be robbed.", Jeremy said as he giggled to himself.
"U-Um,... I-It's fine. I like to keep it open.".
"You don't afraid of thieves?".
"N-no...?".
"Well, that's what you would think before they robbed your home.". The two boys giggled.
But while laughing, he remembered about what Jack had said to him again. This makes him suddenly quiet, before letting out another question for his friend.
"Did you... have sleeping difficulties lately?".
Then everything stopped.
Houser hands started shaking a bit, making his handwriting became more squiggly. He knows, he knows what's Jeremy was asking about. Six years of friendship, they always trusted each other, cared each other, now ended up suspecting each other. Houser has to think of a lie, but anxiousness kept him from thinking. He tried to overcome it. If someone else like Jack, his new friend asked this question, he wouldn't have hard time lying. But this is different, it's Jeremy who asked him that question, who would lie to their best friend? At least, that's what Houser had thought.
"I...um...Well... I just stayed up! Y-yeah! I stayed up late for my research.". What a terrible but legit lie.
Jeremy silent for a moment, processing the sentences, before asking another question. "Didn't it happened for a while? I've noticed the dark circles under your eyes.", Jeremy said in a serious tone, but not too much pressure to his friend.
Dark circles. Those words always make Houser nervous, despite the dark circles was quite clear, his glasses blocked most of it, so not all people noticed. His aunt and uncle got used to it, they too, worried. But for a person who had been his friend for six year clearly would have noticed it a week or later. Now, the problem is how Houser will respond to his friend's question.
"L-like I said. I-I stayed up late.". Not so terrible excuses.
Jeremy frowned, before letting out a sigh. "Welp, if that's the reason, then I won't mind. But just don't stay up too late, kay?".
Jeremy's response actually relived Houser somehow. Thank God. He thought to himself as well as continuing writing again. After that, Jeremy takes a look at his watch, eyes widened. 9:50 PM.
"Woah, it's late now. Shouldn't you go to bed now?", Jeremy asked.
"H-huh? Oh, well if you feel tired.", Houser said as he turned around.
"I'm not *yawn* tired yet.".
"Oh... what about that yawn?".
They both looked each other for a moment, then Jeremy said.
"Yep, let's go to sleep."
"Ok."
11:00 PM
The festival ended after Jack and his brother, Micheal went home. Jack on the other side, felt what called a glimpse of hope, maybe Quinn can help him remembering what happened since The Accident. I didn't know what happened to him, his father said it was a car accident that got his head injured, but his brother didn't say anything, he just went silent, as wanted to say the same thing as his dad. Maybe tonight, they won't show up, cause it seemed like they didn't enjoy positive feelings much. Tonight will be a good night.
Jack, now lying on his bed, now tired from having fun at the festival. But tonight, tonight he's going to have a good sleep, a good sleep every terrifying weeks. It's like a Saturday and a Sunday but only one of them. At least they gave him some time to rest before facing it, again. But still, he kept thinking about Houser, the boy that always make him feel uncomfortable cause the way he acted and looked. He acted the same he had been too, and he looked like what he is now too. What he is wondering is what Houser's nightmarish creature looked like, if he's like him.
An hour later, Jack still can't sleep. It happened usually, since he got used to wake up at midnight to ready for them. But then, there's this urge, the urge so disturbing, so inconvenient, so uncomfortable in sleeping that if not fulfilled, it will be more unsatisfying. It's the urge, to pee.
God damnit! Why now?! Jack thought with a frowned face, why trying to hold his urge. *sigh* I shouldn't drink too much soda. He has no choice but to go to the bathroom, to pee. Guess I have no choice but... Jack thought as he sits up, walking to the door with his hand holding the flashlight. You just go for a pee. Clearly they don't want me to piss myself! Right? Jack stands in front of the door, hand slowly opening it. A small creak but already loud in the middle of the night. It's pure dark in the hallway, and the only way to see, is to use the flashlight.
click*
The lights from the flashlight shines through the hall, revealed what lurked in the darkness. Thankfully, there's nothing outside. But looking at it for just a brief moment always creped Jack out, which makes him wanted to pee harder. Fuck this! I've gotta pee. And you won't stop me from doing it. Jack stepped out with a determined looking eyes and started heading downstairs.
Just right after Jack head past the living room, he caught his brother sleeping on the couch. *sigh* "Lazy.", he muttered himself, before heading straight to the bathroom. Finally! Jack thought in satisfaction and opens the door. But just before he can enjoy the moment, there's that thing inside.
In a brief moment, Jack's eyes widened, startling back with his feet, hands shaking. In front of him is a chicken-like thing, with extreme sharpened teeth inside a huge beak. It wears some kind of torned bib, hand holding a plate with a nightmarish cupcake on it. Its eyes staring at Jack like a while animal, ready to catch its prey. And just that, Jack immediately shut the door, letting out a bang, before stepping back again.
Well, guess I have to hold it. Damn it! Jack thought, before he headed back to his room. Just when he turned around, a person can be seen standing in front of him, very close.
"Gah!". Jack startled.
"Hey! What are you doing here in the middle of the night?". That voice, it's no one else but his brother's.
"Y-You jumped me!", Jack whispered back disturbingly.
"Yeah so? Anyways, I'm gonna go to he bathroom.", Micheal said as he heading towards the bathroom door. Jack didn't stop him, since they'll just disappear when another person nears him. No doubt, when Micheal opened the door, nothing is there, which is a relieve, since he can pee before pissed himself by them, again.
Jeremy woke up in a room, lying, everything seemed very dark, so it's hard to see. What the... Jeremy thought as he stood up. Am I dreaming? Surely not...? He tried to pinch himself. Ow. Huh, weird. Is this what happened when you know you're dreaming? What is it called again? Jeremy slowly walks outside the room. I'll just ask Houser when I wake up. Then he finds himself standing in the middle of a hallway, of a familiar place.
"What the...", said confusedly Jeremy, looking around the wall. There were posters, hanging on the wall, it showed somewhat animatronics in it, it looked, familiar. "Isn't this... Fredbear's Diner?", said Jeremy, eyes widened. "This dreams started to creep me out now.". As he walks through the hall, there's some sound of electric buzzing sound at the end of the hall, blue light keeps flashing and flickering, something, in and the end of the hall. This doesn't making him remembering things when he was at this place, because the animatronics always creep him out, but at least they were gone now. But the weird thing is why is he dreaming of it?
Jeremy now arrived in another bigger room, it's the main party that has the animatronics performing. The source of flickering blue lights were from the arcade games, showing some metroid shooting games, Jeremy take a look at it, memories started flooding back. "Hey... I remember you!", Jeremy said as he grinned at the arcade. "Heh, I didn't even know how to play this back then, but liked it anyways.". The source of electric buzzing were from the stage's spotlight itself, each time it buzzed, sparkles can be seen bursting out. "Huh, this place is weird. Maybe it's because of my dream. I think I should wake up any moment no-." Just before Jeremy could finished his sentence, he sees Houser, standing in the opposite hallway, his body is shaking, his face expressed like he had seen something terrifying. Jeremy on the other side, looks confused. Why is he here? Maybe he's just a part of my dream. Jeremy thought before he waved at his friend.
"Hey Houser! What'cha doing here?".
Houser jumped a bit, before saying, "U-uh. Hey... ", he said as slowing waving back.
Jeremy started walking to his friend. But Houser stepped back, he seemed cautious. "Uh... Why are you so freaked out?". Jeremy asked.
"I-I... Um. Are you really Jeremy?", his words become unstable again.
Jeremy suprised by the way his friend acted, even tho as a part of a dream, Houser felt too real to be a part of it, he acted almost like in real life. What the... What's wrong with him? "Duh, who else am I be?", Jeremy said, rasing one of his eyebrows.
Houser quiet for a bit, then slow said. "O-okay."
"Heh, this dream sure is weird.", Jeremy muttered to himself.
"W-what?", Houser asked as if he couldn't hear what Jeremy said.
"Oh, it's nothing.".
Just before they have any conversation, strange noises starting to clanking in the hallway that Houser came from. The clanking sound of metallic footsteps, and it's coming closer. Jeremy just jumped a bit, and looked at Houser, who's shivering and covering his head.
"What's that noises?", asked Jeremy.
"I... It's here...!", Houser whispered in a scaredly tone.
"What's...here?", confused Jeremy. "I'm gonna check it.".
Just before Jeremy started walking away, Houser grabbed his hand back, "N-no, don't!", insisted him not to.
"Why? Don't worry, I'll be find. Besides, this is just a dre-."
Right before Jeremy finished talking, Houser suddenly pull him to the hallway that his friend has just came from, and started running.
"W-woah! What are you doing?", Jeremy said suprisingly.
"H-Hiding! Or it'll find us!", Houser responded in a frightening tone.
"It?".
They both ran into a room, closed the door behind them and locked it. Jeremy couldn't catch up with Houser, he's still confused. Houser though, shaking as hell! He hid in a corner, facing at the wall.
"H-Hey. Are you ok?", Jeremy asked, he seemed to worry about Houser.
"Shush!", Houser whispered, putting his index finger in front of his mouth.
"Uh...okay then.", Jeremy said as he listened to Houser, to stay quiet, to stay hidden. This dream is getting more weirder now. Jeremy thought, before turning at his friend.
"Who, what are we hiding from?", Jeremy whispered.
"That thing.", Houser whispered back.
"What thing? What is it?".
"I don't know. But I know that it's dangerous, and scary...".
"Ok. But-".
"Shush!", Houser alerted Jeremy to quiet. "It's here."
Then everything went silent, the boys just squat there in the corner. The door was a metallic door so there's isn't any kind of window for them to see through. It kinda looked like the janitor room. Moments later, the sound of metallic thumping becomes more louder, and louder, and louder, and louder. Until, it stopped in front of the door.
Under the door was a tiny gap for lights to go through. But, there's something there. Something's standing in front of the door, they can see it, two shadowy legs stood in front of the door, immobilised. Approximately half a minute later, it walked away. The two boys looked each other, as if one wanna tell the other one what the heck is that, or to keep quiet. For few minutes straight, they didn't say anything, nor tried to peek out. Until Jeremy said.
"I think we need to check if it's gone or not."
"N-No, it's tricking you to come out! Don't do it, please...", Houser sounded desperately, tried to keep Jeremy to stay inside.
Jeremy gave him a gentle smile, "Don't worry. Whatever is it. I'll protect you.". He still thinks Houser is non other that a part of a dream, so he won't remember it anyways. But that's what he have thought.
"P-Please be careful.", Houser whispered.
After that, Jeremy turned around, slowly opened the door, and looked outside. They atmosphere somehow felt really really chill. Jeremy glance at the left, which is the way they came from, then glance at the right, where this pure darkness seemed to took over the hallway. Looks like everything is fine.
"Hey, I think we can come out not. There's nothing outside.", Jeremy said.
Houser heard his friend, slowly stands up and follow Jeremy. The two boys no outside the hall again. Just before they can take another breath, the clanking sound of metal happened again. Now, it came from the darkness behind them.
"I-It's coming!", Houser said, alerted Jeremy to run forward the party room again.
"Is there any kind of exit around here?", Jeremy asked while running through the party room, heading to the hallway that Houser had came from.
"I saw one, but I don't think we can opened it."
A while later, they stopped at the entrance, where two big glass door firmly blocking their way from escaping.
"W-what are we gonna do?", Houser asked, worriedly.
"Uh...We just have to find a way to break down those doors. They're made of glass so it won't be that hard to break it.", Jeremy said as he was finding something to breakdown the glass doors. "Ah! There's a chair here.", Jeremy said, then picked up the chair.
"Stay out of the way Houser!", he commanded Houser to step away, while he was trying to breakdown the doors.
THUMP* *THUMP* *THUMP*
After three attempts, nothing happened, no crack, no breakdown, no hope. Jeremy kept swinging the chair at the glass door, the doors, somehow barely have any cracks. This gave Jeremy a disturbing look.
"What the hell? What kind of glass door is this?", Jeremy shouted angrily, then finally gave up, threw the chair one last time, before it landed on the floor.
"I think we should hi-", just before Houser finished his sentence, his eyes widened, as he has seen something. "...Uh... Jeremy?".
"What?!", Jeremy said, still have the wrath inside him.
Houser then pointed at the hallway behind Jeremy, where the originally came from. He turned around, eyes widened as well. "W-what the heck...?".
In front of them, not so far away, there's a silhouette, firmly standing at the end of the hall. It didn't look like a human, it was very tall, and big. And somehow, the glowing bloody eyes were the one that most visible, it shined throughout the hall. Jeremy, just by staring at those eyes already chilled up his spine, his heart started pounding, his body started shaking, his mouth becomes uncontrollable. It was fear.
"W-what...the f...", he couldn't even speak normally. The fear tried to take control of him, he tried to fight back. Then turned around to look at Houser, who also had the same expression, but way worse, and he already stepped away from the silhouette. Before letting out his words.
"Run."
In a brief moment, the silhouette somehow teleported in front of them. The silhouette, now standing in front of Houser, and then took him away.
"Houser!", Jeremy screamed, as he tried to grab his friend's hand. But missed. "W-what...?".
Something grabbed his leg, Jeremy turned around to see what it was, and shocked. The floor, now no more but and a dark and bottomless void, so dark that it was darker than the darkness itself, and it was cold as well, chilled the hell out of him. Then he looked down to his leg, there was this metallic, robot hand grabbed his leg. Jeremy couldn't escaped, only to be pulled down to the void.
"N-No...! Houser! Houser!", Jack screamed for his life, hoping Houser to respond back.
"Jeremy! Help!", Houser screamed from the distant, but couldn't be seen anymore.
Jeremy hold the floor of his life, tried not to be pulled down, but he felt like the wasn't a single hand that pulled him down the void, there were many, so many the it would stretched all the way down to the bottom. They insisted him to join them, to become one of them.
"HOUSER!!!", Jeremy screamed one last time, before letting go of his hand, and fell into the unknown void.
"Tomorrow is another day."
Omg this is another record! It long as f*! I just hope that they'll be okay. Wait, why would I hoped them to be okay anyways... I'm the author after all ;) I'm the one that will predict the boys's fate, as well as the other. As always, stay tuned!
