Chapter 9
One And Only Chance
Days after "Golden Freddy" was named...
"Hey.", said Golden Freddy, who's sitting next to Freddy, while the others were having fun. "Hm?", Freddy asked.
"I haven't ask you this but, shouldn't you guys stay where you are when the night guard was patrolling here?". This seemed a good question too, since back in Fredbear's Diner, Golden Freddy wasn't able to free-roam around the place. He used to it, since he doesn't like to moved around if didn't allowed too.
"Oh!", Freddy said, widening his eyes. "He's a friend of our good friend, Mike.".
"W-what?!", Golden Freddy said confusedly, as he never befriended a human before, at least, not the children he had met. "You have a human friend?".
Freddy giggles. "Mike is our good friend, we trusted him."
"How did you guys met him anyways?", Golden Freddy asked.
"Well, it's a long story. You wanna hear?".
"Umm, no thanks. I'm good. If you trust the night guard, then I'll trust him as well.".
Freddy gave him a gentle smile. "Okay then." Before a thought came up in his mind. "Hey Gred.", he said as standing up.
"Yeah?", the golden bear looked up to him.
"Do you know how to play Chess?".
"Chess?", Golden Freddy said, eyes stopped focusing. "I've heard it before, but didn't know how to play. Why you asked?". Just as he looked up only to see Freddy was nowhere to be seen, but came back with a box in his hands.
"Then I'll teach you how. It will help us kill the time, or when we get bored.", Freddy said as he sat down opened the box, which contains lost of chess prices, all of them confused Golden Freddy a bit.
"Woah, what's all about this? Thing...", Golden Freddy asked, hand holding a black piece of chess.
"That's a pawn.", Freddy said.
"A pawn? What about this?", Golden Freddy asked, hand picked up another black piece that has a crown-like with a cross on top of it.
"That's a King. A King is the most important piece in Chess, if the King got killed, you will lose."
"Oh, then it must have a Queen right?".
"Of course!", Freddy said as he picked up the Queen piece. "I don't know why but although the King is the most important one, he ended up being up one of the weakest and easily killed."
"Huh, weird. Shouldn't the King take the role of ruling the kingdom?".
"I know. But hey, the Queen is one of the most powerful piece! It can move a in three by three grid, up, down, left, right, and diagonally all the way through the chess board!".
"Wow, that was some heavy buff."
"Yep.", he said as excitement filled his emotions. "I'll arrange the pieces and show you how it was played.".
"Where did you learn to play chess?", Golden Freddy asked while waiting for Freddy arranging the chess pieces. "From Mike, of course!".
Moments later...
"Wow, you learned fast!", Freddy complimented, cheering his friend victorious.
"Heh, thanks", Golden Freddy said with confidence. "Another round?", he asked, arm crossed.
"Sure.", Freddy responded, as both of them stated rearranging the chess piece. Golden Freddy didn't get used to it, so he couldn't remember all of the pieces's orders.
Just before they started another round, a person walked into the room, caused them to looked at him. It was the night guard. The night guard, who wore a security and a dark blue uniform that has a silver badge marked with a Pizzeria's symbol, under it was a line "Security". The man tho, he has brown hair as well has badly shaved beard, looked like a cartoon character stayed up late at night, with light dark circles under his narrowed eyes toward the bears.
"Oh hey, Jeremy! What'cha doing?", asked Freddy, hand waved at Jeremy.
Jeremy, known as Jeremy Fitzgerald (not to be confused with the other Jeremy!, sorry if they have the same name, but he was one of my OCs!), the formal night guard of this Pizzeria, they were many night guards before him, but all ended up freaked out when they saw the animatronic and quit the job a week later. But since Jeremy is Mike's friend, he was convinced to stay to work more, and this is his third week working at here now. Even he had Mike given trust to the animatronics, he still dislikes them, always tried to stay away from them by watching them through the cameras.
"Patrolling.", Jeremy responded, with heavy tone, pointing the flashlight towards them. "You should've thank me for staying here, or those thieves gonna dismantled the hell out of you."
"Umm... Thanks?", Golden Freddy said, hoping Jeremy will react.
tch* Jeremy gave Golden Freddy a disturbing look, before continuing his patrol around the place, leaving both Freddy and Golden Freddy unspeakable.
"Does he always like that?", Golden Freddy asked, gesturing his thumb behind him, pointing at Jeremy.
"Oh, don't worry.", Freddy grinned. "He always like that, just give the man a chance.", he said, pointing at Golden Freddy's chess pieces, "You won last time, so you can go first.".
"Huh?", Golden Freddy said, looking down to his pawns, "Oh right."
"Gahh!", the boy let out a small shout before waking up. Jeremy, now sitting on the floor with blankets covered the wooden floor. Since Houser's bed didn't have enough space for Jeremy, so both of them sleeping on the floor, covering the floor with some blankets.
Woah. That dream was so real! Jeremy thought to himself, found out that Houser was nowhere to be seen. Guess he woke up before me. Jeremy pulls out the blanket, only to reveal a small bruises on his left leg ankle, the ankle somehow shaped like a hand that was trying to grab him hard. What the... Jeremy looks confused, it didn't hurt, but it was here, right at the place that the robotic hand pulled him in the dream. Is this some kind of allergy? Allergy? It didn't hurt, was well as itchy, it was some kind of mark, a mark left for him to remember what happened in that terrifying dream. Welp, whatever. It'll fade away soon. After the thought, Jeremy stands up, folds the blankets and tidies the pillows, before heading to the bathroom.
Later, Jeremy went downstairs only not to see Houser anywhere. This suprised him, why would Houser left him at his own house? The only people left were his aunt Mary and his uncle. Well that's awkward. He thought to himself, before heading to the kitchen, where Mary was cooking for lunch.
"Oh? Woke up already?", said Mary, while chopping some scallions.
"Yeah, where's Houser? I can't find him.", asked Jeremy, he sat on a stool in front of her.
"He's gone to the town's library.", Mary responded.
"W-what?", Jeremy confusedly said, a bit surprising to his face.
"He went to the library half an hour ago. He didn't tell you? Well that's sucks. If only you woke up sooner, though it's still 7:30.".
"Huh, weird. I didn't know he would go without telling me.", Jeremy said, eyes started focusing in his mind.
"Since you've woken up, why don't you join our breakfast with uncle Joe?".
"Thanks."
Mary smiled at him, giving up a sandwich plate, before continuing chopping the onions. Jeremy goes to the living room, with a sandwich plate on his hands, when arrived, he saw Joe, drinking coffee, eyes reading newspapers, and a plate of sandwich on the table, just like his.
"Good morning, Jeremy.", he said, eyes still looking at the newspapers.
"Good morning, Mr.Joe.", Jeremy responded, as he sat on the chair opposite Joed started eating the sandwich.
"How's the sandwich?", he asked.
Chewing for some seconds, before widened his eyes.
"It's good...", he whispered to Joe. He had never have a meal at Houser's house before, even breakfast, even lunch, even dinner. He only want to his friend's house only to chat and play with him, but never had a meal. The sandwich was really good, really really good. So good that I don't even have enough words to describe it. Joe looked him, and gave him a small chuckle.
"Heh, glad you liked it.", he said, before slipping some coffee. "So, how's the sleepover?".
"Huh? Oh, it went well.", Jeremy responded, while chewing the sandwich. "We've chatted, play games, tell stories, et cetera...". But then, a thought came up with his mind, it's about Houser's sleeping trouble. Of course! Why didn't Jeremy asked his aunt and uncle before? Things that not too important would only be forgotten by him. Now, he tried his best to maintain that memory, and ask the question.
"Uncle Joe.", he said, eyes narrowed at the sandwich.
"Hm?", Joe responded, eyes still looking at the newspapers.
"Has Houser... experienced sleeping difficulties before?".
Then everything went silent, again.
Joe stopped reading the newspapers, his eyes laid on Jeremy, who was awkwardly staring at the sandwich. He knows, he knows what Jeremy was talking about. He too, worried, cared about Houser. Poor boy who couldn't get his sleep properly, who always has nightmares in his sleep, who always shy in front of people, who had lost his parents. Joe thinks about it for a while.
"Houser, he...", Joe tried to think of a word. "When he was younger, he always had nightmare, at least that's what he had told us. In some nights, he even screamed in his sleep, which got us both startled and ran into his room, but he wasn't asleep, he was awake."
Awake. "Wha...?", Jeremy asked curiously.
"He told us that, there were noises that kept him from sleeping. But we didn't hear anything. He took him to the doctors, they said that Houser was normal an fine. I...I just worried about him."
Jack wasn't wrong. Jeremy thought. There's something odds about him. Why didn't I know about this before?! Jeremy looked Joe, who now wears a frowned expression, an expression of a worrying man, an expression of a caring uncle, an expression of a anxious father. "I'm sorry about that, about Houser...", he said. "But as a friend, I will help him, I will cheer him him up!".
Joe looked at Jeremy, who's now wear an expression of an energetic boy, an expression of a thoughtful person, an expression of a determined friend. And gave him a hopeful smile, "Thank you."
They have a chat with each other for a while, after that, he thanked Mary and Joe for accepting his request, and went to grab his bike. Just before he can start cycling the bike, a voice behind him said.
"Hey! Jeremy!".
Jeremy turned around, the voice was came from Joe himself. He saw him standing there, in front of the front door, smiling, waving at him.
"Please, help Houser with his shyness, ok?", he said.
Jeremy just nodded, but with a determined smile, Joe somewhat felt relieved, before waving Jeremy goodbye and head inside. After that, Jeremy started cycling his way back home, energisation flowed through his vein, he now had a mission to complete. Being Houser's best friend.
9:50 AM
Lily, now at the Pizzeria, as usual, she doesn't get attracted much like other kids. She only focused in her investigation. What she need to know is what behind that door, that Parts Services door. But as always, there's this day guard, the day guard that patrols around this area, he seemed to be very cautious about kids approaching that door. Yet he's very kind and generous, he just won't shoo the kids away like the others, he'll just gently guided them back to the party rooms. But that's what he wanted them to think about him, at least that's what Lily had thought.
As Lily approaches the door, she stopped in front of it. There it is again, the urge, the urge to find out what's behind that door, to find the clues to prove her theory, to find out The Culprit once and for all. I'm so close! Lily thought, as she tried to touch the heavy metal door. I must find out what's behind the door! Then all of a sudden, a hand laid on her shouder.
"Gah!", Lily jumped, as she turned around, a tall figure kneeling in front of her. It was the day guard, but Lily didn't scared, didn't frightened or anything, she's just wear the unpleasant expression, frowned face, narrowed eyes.
"Hey, you shouldn't be here you know.", he said, gently.
"U-um, sorry, mister.", Lily whispered, in a discomfort tone, as she started heading back to the party room. But before she does that, the guard speaks again.
"By the way, you kinda look familiar...", he said, scratching his chin. "Oh! You're that girl!".
"Um, excuse me?", Lily asked, confusion can be seen in her eyes .
"You're the girl that always creeps around this area, aren't'cha?", he said, childishly.
Huh, so he did notice me. Lily thought, but flattered anyways. "You've seen me here for a while, haven't you?", she said, arm crossed, aren't she supposed to respect people that other than her?
"Certainly. You know that there's cameras all around this place, aren't'cha?", he said as he raised one of his eyebrows. He looked just like her mom.
Lily, as disturbing as ever, tried to be respectful, "Yeah, I know. But why didn't let kids entering this area? I mean it's just a door and that's it.".
"Let's just say that's the door that led to a janitor room? How about that?".
"Janitor?", Lily asked, mockingly. "Aren't this supposed to be a room where you put old animatronics in there?".
"Uh...Yeah? Geez, you really know a lot about this place huh?", the guard said admirely.
"Of course!", now she couldn't hold it back anymore. "Cause I'm gonna ruin this place's reputation for what really happened since The Accident."
The guard didn't say anything, just a bit surprised to the girl announcement.
"I will and I must find clues for my investigation, and for the sake of that child, I will not let his permanent scar in vain, I will find out who The Culprit is.", Lily let it all out, thinks that the guard would just slip it out anyways.
Didn't believe what girl has just said, he kinda shocked. It might be about the girl's determination in investigating, it might be about what happened since The Accident, or both. Because he knows for sure, it related to G.Freddy himself.
Yes, he knows, he knows what happened in The Accident, not because he had witnessed it, it's because he had been told by Freddy, who was supposedly had been told by G.Freddy. If he tell the girl about The Culprit right now, will she believe it? Will she accept the fate of that innocent boy? He doesn't even know what happened to the boy, if he's fine or not. But when he heard that the boy was fine, he let out a sigh, relieved, hoped for him to get well soon. And sometimes, silence is needed.
"I've also heard that there were missing children back then at another pizza, Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria. People said that there was some odorous smell came from the animatronics themselves. And now those things are still here? Why? Why didn't you just dismantled them? It's that easy.".
There was a brief silent, before the day guard said, "No... You didn't know what really happened, didn't you?", he asked seriously.
"N-No.", Lily responded. "I only cared about The Accident."
"What's made you so into it? I mean the case was closed long ago."
Lily quiet for a moment, and started thinking. Will he believe me? Or he'll just like the others? Lily has to make a decision, whether hide, or tell it. But what's the point in tell him anyways. I could have just do it myse-
"I also wanted to help you to investigate, how bout that?", the guard interrupted her thought.
"W-what?", Lily looked confused. "Why do you want to help me?".
I think I shouldn't tell her now, maybe later. He thought, before saying, "Well since I also wanted to know what happened to the missing child in the other Pizzeria, I can help you too with your investigation too. We can work together.", he said, winking.
What the... Just who is this guy? Lily thought. "S-sure, if you say so.", she said as she put out her hand, waiting for the guard to shake it. "We should get to know each other. I'm Lily, Lily Cunningham."
The guard shakes her hand. "And I'm Mike, Mike Schmidt."
10:15 AM
Last night wasn't bad as the other nights, he took his day off, went to pee before they scared the piss out of him. Now, Jack has to find where this fortune lady working at. Cause he wanted to know if she can get rid of them, if she can help him remember the forgotten past, if she can make his life better. The address on the card says that the place isn't far from his house, it pretty close to the town's library, so he'll just cycling all the way to it under ten minutes.
Hm? This is the place? Jack thought, as he looked at the two story store in front of him. The story, with dark brownish paint, with windows that was covered by some red patterned curtain, as well as a big sign of "The Fortune Lady", hanging on the middle of the store, not to mention the small "Come and let the Fortune Lady sees through your past, future and memories!" line underneath it. No doubt. He thought sarcastically, before put the bike's kickstand, and heads inside.
*ding-a-ling*
That's the sound of a bell ringing, and the sound of a customer coming in. To his suprise, the space inside was much bigger from the outside, as well as the decorations of this place, just like when at the festival. Since light couldn't pass through the curtain, the only source of light was a fancy chandelier on the ceiling that emits a dim white light, and the orb itself which also emits a mixture of grey and violet aura. There is a couch, a fantasy medieval time couch, it looked expensive though, in front of the couch is a also fantasy medieval time coffe table. What the? Where did Quinn get these things? It's too luxury, especially for her job. Jack thought, while looking around the room, but cut shorted by the arrival of a voice.
"Greetings, customer.", a feminine voice spoke. "How can The Fortune Lady help you?", it was Quinn. "Oh! It's you! Good to see you again, Jack.", she said, letting a gently smile on her face.
"Hey, Quinn, I've come to look for help.", Jack said as he sat down on the couch. Quinn also sat down on the armchair in front of him.
"Ah, yes. You're asking me to take a look at your past again?", she asked.
"N-No...", he quiet said, eyes looked down to the green carpet.
"Oh? Then what is it darling?", she asked again.
She can help me. She can help me... Jack started mumbling those words inside his head. For years he had been haunted by those nightmarish things, he couldn't take it anymore. He didn't know why he still had the urge to keep living, if not, he could have just killed himself now. Or is it just before he can commit it, Quinn started to become his hope, his final chances, to once and for all, live peacefully? Maybe, this is God's tolerance, this is His hint, hinting a away to get rid of them, to obliterate them, to disintegrate them. She has to know how to get rid of them! As Jack got his final thought, he finally said.
"C-can you... help me get rid of them?".
"Hm?", Quinn looked confusedly.
"If you can tell people their fortune, as well as past and future. Can you also get rid of...ghost?", "ghost", he couldn't think of a word to describe them.
Then everything went silent again.
It already been quiet, but now, for a brief moment, everything just went silent, a silence so quiet that, it even quieter than the space itself. Quinn face darkened a bit, this also made Jack felt nervous, but this is the only way. It's his only hope.
"Follow me."
"Tonight will just be the same as the other nights, but different."
Have Jack found out his one and only chance to free him from those torturing? Maybe, maybe not.
Have Lily got her new partner, one that will help her investigate, one that already know what happened since The Accident, but helped her anyways?
Have Jeremy finally know how to help Houser get through his shyness as well as his sleeping troubles? To become his best friend?
As always, stay tuned.
