Katsuki's eyebrows lowered as he tried to figure out why that name seemed familiar, "Who?"
Izuku shook his head, wishing he could just throw his own memories at Katsuki to make this process speedier. "Shiro Kanna. The girl we used to play with as kids. Pink hair, dark eyes, she wore low pigtails a lot. She was with us the first year of middle school then she just disappeared," Izuku trailed off deep in thought.
Katsuki was thrown back into memories that he had tried to bury and forget. The girl that had hung around him just like Deku had. She was always so small. He couldn't quite remember what her quirk was but he felt like it was something to do with healing, since she was always mending Deku up whenever he hurt himself somehow. He remembered the last day he saw her…
"Kacchan what do you wanna be when you get older?" She had asked him. She was laying back into the grass as the summer air was hot around them both. He fell back into the grass himself, peering up at the sky.
"A hero, stupid," he said lowly. She looked over at him and stuck her tongue out before giving him a small laugh. The two of them were the last of their friend group to stick around at the park. The other's having to leave for some reason or other.
"I think you're going to be a great hero Kacchan," she nodded, "And I'll be there to patch you up whenever you need it." She smiled to herself. He looked over at the girl, just realizing how close they were, their shoulders almost touching. "My parents want me to become scientists like them." She sighed and looked at him, peering into his red eyes. "Sounds boring, hm?"
Katsuki just nodded before something brushed across his lips. It took a moment before he realized what had happened. Kanna had leaned forward and pressed her lips to his own. She pulled back suddenly and Katsuki could see the burning red spreading across her cheeks and face. He felt his own face begin to turn a slight shade of red.
"I-I'm sorry Kacchan. Uh-uh I've gotta go, I'll see you around," She said getting up as fast as she could. The pink summer dress she had been wearing flowing in the wind.
"Wait, Kanna," he said lowly but it was too late. She was running down the hill and away from him.
"You okay Kacchan?" Deku said. It snapped Katsuki from his memory and he stammered.
"Okay everyone settle down and get in your seats," the teacher demanded.
Katsuki ran home that day. His mom knew everything, she had to know what was going on and where she was. He stumbled into the house, kicking off his shoes and running into the kitchen.
"Mom! Mom! What happened? Where's Kanna?" He yelled out as she stood with her back to him.
"Katsuki! God you scared me," She stared at her son's face, seeing the worry and concern in his eyes. "Shiro Kanna? That girl from when you were a kid right?" Katsuki nodded quickly, his hand placed on the counter, shaking slightly. Mitsuki sighed and placed a hand on his. "She's in the hospital. From what I found out she's okay and just being looked after. Her family on the other hand didn't fare so well." Katsuki let out a deep breath and stared into the air.
"Can I go see her?" He said in almost a whisper.
"Maybe tomorrow honey, after you get off school I'll drive you over and you can see if visitations have opened for her," the mother said going back to washing the dishes.
Katsuki nodded before turning and making his way up the stairs. He made his way to his bedroom, throwing himself on his bed and burying his head into the pillow.
"Kacchan, have you seen Kanna?" Izuku said looking around the small playground. Katsuki was walking on the sidewalk on his way home, passing by annoying Deku. Katsuki stopped dead in his tracks and looked back at the boy. "I haven't seen her in a couple days and I haven't seen her brother at the playground either." The green haired boy looked back at the blonde before the other one began to walk away deep in thought.
Kanna sat in the hospital bed staring out the window. The police had just left after taking some statements from her. The doctor would be by soon to check on her. Yesterday he said that she should be able to leave in a couple days. Her brother had been improving but still wasn't able to take visitors. She watched as the cars below her moved through the streets. The people walking down the sidewalks, just living their normal lives. The door opened and Kanna turned expecting to see the doctor. The nurse from yesterday stood at the door instead.
"Miss Shiro, you have a couple visitors," she smiled as she stepped aside and let the two boys enter the room. Stepping in first was a now tall and slightly muscular boy, green hair messed on top of his head. She could see he had tears in his eyes already. He clutched a tattered notebook to his chest. Kanna racked her brain for a moment before realizing who it was.
"I-Izuku!" She cried out, jumping from the bed and wrapping her arms around his neck. Pulling him close, she realized how tall he had gotten. She could feel his arms wrap around her and hold her tight, his hands shaking as he began to cry into her hair.
Pulling away she looked up at him, tears pouring from the corner of her eyes. He stepped to the side and looked back at the other male that had been behind him. He was tall, blonde and had a permanent scowl on his face. Her eyes lit up as she looked upon a face she thought she'd never see again. His face was angular and his jaw clenched. It looked like he wasn't breathing. Kanna knew immediately who it was.
She fell into his chest, her arms around his waist pulling him close to her. She cried hard into his shirt, barely able to breathe.
Katsuki stood in the lobby of the hospital trying to find the courage to go up to her room. He leaned up against the wall and was staring holes into the floor. He looked up and saw Deku walk in and up to the secretary desk, waiting for a nurse to acknowledge him. The other boy looked to the right and saw Katsuki standing there. Abandoning his spot at the desk, he made his way to his old friend.
"H-hey Kacchan, are you here to see her?" Deku looked up at Katsuki, his hand clenched together in front of him.
"Room 212," Katsuki said as he nodded. Izuku started walking towards the appropriate hall and Katsuki followed him. His heart felt as if it were going to burst from his chest. 209, 210, 211, 212. A nurse stood next to the door, updating something on the chart.
"Oh are you guys, here to see Miss Shiro?" The two boys nodded and the nurse turned to the door and opened it, announcing their arrival. Deku walked in and Katsuki stood behind him. Looking at her face, she had barely changed. Her hair was so much longer but her face was still soft and round. He saw the recognition cross her face as she jumped up and hugged Deku.
After they had their moment, Katsuki took a step forward and stood as she stared at his face. Feeling a heavy force around his chest, he realized she was hugging and holding onto him, crying into his chest. He put an arm around her shoulder and one with his hand on the back of her head, comforting her. His head moved down, his nose touching the top of her head, taking in the scent he had been missing for the last three years. She always smelled of peaches and lavender back in the day.
"Katsuki! I missed you so much," She began to calm down, looking back up at him and stepping back slightly. Wiping her face with her small hands, a smile couldn't help but cross Bakugo's face.
The three of them caught up on stuff that had happened for almost an hour. Quirks forming late, All Might being a teacher now, the latest food fads that were a thing now. Katsuki ignoring his hatred for Izuku for the time being, just taking in how much he had missed his other friend.
Izuku nodded for a moment and a serious look crossed his face. "Kanna, you don't have to answer if you don't want to," he gulped and looked over at Katsuki, "But… What happened to you?"
Running as fast as she could, Kanna's lungs began to burn. "God Kanna, you can't just kiss the guy! Stupid," she huffed at herself as she stood outside her house, trying to catch her breath. She turned towards the gate and opened it slowly. The street seemed silent and it slightly creeped her out, but she pushed this feeling to the back of her brain. Opening the door she called out to her mom.
"Mom, I'm home. What's for lunch?" She said as she entered the kitchen. At the table sat her mom and her father. Her little brother was on his mom's lap. Behind each of them stood a handful of shady looking men. They all were in black suits with black masks. The only thing visible on their faces were their eyes, staring daggers at her.
"Kanna, honey, do as they say and it'll be okay. We're-we're gonna go on a trip okay?" Her father said through tears. She just noticed that his parents hands were behind their back, tied from what it looked like. Kanna began to cry silently and nodded. She walked up to her father and clung to him.
"After that they just… We were put into cells and-and that's where I'd been," she looked at the two boys as they listened to her intently.
Katsuki frowned, "What about your family?" He said in a dark voice.
"Kai is recovering, I haven't been able to see him yet but maybe tomorrow before I get discharged. And… My parents didn't make it," she added the last part in a whisper before hiding her face behind her hands. She had run out of tears and nothing flowed now.
"I'm so sorry Kanna. I'm sorry you had to go through this," Izuku choked out through tears. Kanna looked from behind her hands and offered a small smile.
"I'm just so happy I'm alive Izuku, me and my brother, I'm glad we made it this long. My parents would've been proud of us for being so strong," Izuku looked up at her. In his head he commended her eternal optimism.
"Where are you gonna go when you get discharged tomorrow?" Katsuki said leaning forward, his elbows on his knees.
"I'm not sure yet. My case worker said that if anything I might just end up living on my own since my family left behind such a large inheritance. When my brother is recovered, maybe he can live with me," she said nodding.
Visiting hours came to a close and Izuku excused himself, stating that his mother was here and that he'd be in contact. Giving his number to Kanna he smiled and gave her a soft hug before bouncing out the door, happy that his friend had returned. Kanna waved at him as he exited the room. She turned back to Katsuki and smiled at him as he stood and stretched his back.
Kanna couldn't help but notice how toned he was. His back rippled as the muscles moved under the skin. His arms looked strong and hard. Biting her lip she looked back down at her hands as her cheeks burned slightly.
"I'll be by to make sure you get discharged and into your new place safely," he said in a low voice.
"You don't have to do that Kacchan, I wouldn't want to burden you," she said meekly. He shook his head.
"And I don't care what you want," he looked at her with hard eyes. "You disappeared once on us Kanna and I'm not gonna let that happen again."
A/N: lemme know if anyone likes this. I'll try to post one more chapter today if i can. If not, expect another one in about a week or less.
