Chapter One
His New Neighbor
Dr. Spencer Reid walked out of his apartment with his phone to his ear.
"Yes Emily. I did read the file. I don't think she's going to make the same mistake again. She's more apt to making new mistakes."
A rustling to his left caught his attention.
A brown haired woman was struggling with getting her door unlocked, while juggling two bags of groceries.
"Let me call you back, Emily."
Spencer snapped his phone shut and walked towards the woman.
"Need some help?"
The woman smiled. "Yes. Thank you."
Spencer grabbed the groceries. The woman unlocked the door. Spencer walked in. "Where would you like these?"
"Oh. on the table is fine. I'm sorry. I'm Amelia Lane. You must be the FBI agent."
She saw his puzzled look. "The building super said my neighbor was in the FBI."
"Doctor Spencer Reid. Behavior Analysis Unit."
"You study human behavior?"
"Yes. And from the looks of your apartment, you're a teacher."
Amelia smiled. "I teach Kindergarten, and I have ten minutes to get to Carver Elementary. Thank you, Spencer."
"Don't mention it, Mrs. Lane."
"Oh, I'm not married. It's Amy."
Spencer smiled and left.
Amelia couldn't get his face out of her mind.
Spencer arrived at the FBI building in Quantico, Virginia. He had a few minutes to kill. He fixed himself a cup of coffee.
A pretty blonde walked towards him.
"Hey, we're meeting in the round room...so...Spence?"
"Huh?"
"Wow, you were out in left field somewhere."
"Sorry, JJ. I met my new neighbor."
"I hope she's pretty," JJ joked.
"She gorgeous."
He walked away leaving JJ with a surprised look on her face.
The meeting in the round room didn't go as Spencer had planned. He found out that his nemesis Cat, had escaped from prison, yet again.
Spencer sighed. Catherine Adams aka The Black Widow Killer was back.
He rubbed his temples. He didn't know how much more he could take.
Adams had framed him, initially sending him to prison. She'd kidnapped his mother Diane.
Diane had survived the ordeal, only to die of a heart attack six months later.
David Rossi, one of the pioneers of the BAU, spoke up. "Spencer, I hate to suggest this, but you may need to go into protective custody."
"Rossi, I left one prison. I'm not going back to another one. Look, Cat wants me alive. I don't have anything else she can use as a bargaining chip."

Meanwhile, at Carver Elementary, Amelia was talking to her young students.
"Katie, what did you do over the weekend?"
"Miss Amy, why do we have to tell you what we did? What did you do?"
"Well, I made a new friend."
"Did you tell your parents?"
"Not yet. I just met him this morning."
"You have a boyfriend?"
Amelia laughed. "No! He's just my neighbor."
That afternoon, Amelia was telling her friend Rebecca about her neighbor.
"He's got these amazing brown eyes. He's so handsome. I wonder if he's married."
"Find out."
"I can't."
"And why not?"
"Because of Kurt."
"Look, Amelia, that bastard has hurt you for the last time. He won't find you again."
"I highly doubt that."
"Amelia, you deserve to be happy. Invite him to your dance class."
Amelia took Rebecca's advice to heart.

That night, Amelia knocked on Spencer's door.
The door opened and Amelia was greeted by Spencer's warm brown eyes.
"Spencer, I wanted to thank you for helping me this morning. I have a dance studio and I teach dance on the weekend. You're more than welcome to come by."
Spencer smiled. "A teacher and a dancer. It's quite a combination. I'd like to come by your studio..."
"But?"
"But I never know when I'm going to be called out of town."
Amelia smiled. "I have an open door policy. Feel free anytime."
Spencer smiled again. His new neighbor was indeed gorgeous.
