Disclaimer: I don't own Demon Slayer or any of the characters in the story, those belong to Koyoharu Gotōge. I only only own the story.

"Are you sure you want to go for these deliveries? They're quite far."

"Dont worry Kaa-san! I want to make sure everyone gets their fill, especially for New Years."

"Hai.. thank you."

"Well, I'm off!"

"Be safe!"

Be safe.

I wasn't the one who needed saving.

Ah right, I should explain what's happening. My name is Tanjiro Kamado, eldest son of six. My father had passed away when I was still young, and so I had to become the man of the house. My family ran a bakery, and I spent most of my time helping out there. I also attended Kimetsu high as a second year.

I had a few deliveries to do, so I set off. By the time I came back home..

Police cars, caution tape, and most importantly..

Blood.

Despite their efforts, I ran past all the policemen dropping all my belongings and examined the area.

They were all dead; Hanako, Takeo, Shigeru, Nezuko, Rokuta.

I hovered over their bodies; tears flowing from my eyes. They were all cold as the night, lifeless like puppets. However, Nezuko still had a heartbeat, albeit weak but it was still there!

I waited outside Nezuko's room in the hospital, my only focus being her. Over the past four hours I saw plenty of doctors come in and out. Eventually a doctor came outside with a solemn, yet tired look on her face. And then she spoke;

"I'm sorry."

I was sent home because I looked terrible, I was told back to come back the next day. I rented a one night stay at a rather small apartment. I wasn't allowed to sleep at my house, not that I wanted to if I could though.

The next morning, I entered the hospital and walked up to the receptionist, she directed me to the office of the doctor that spoke to me yesterday.

"Take a seat, Kamado-san."

I sat in front of her and waited patiently as she sorted through her documents, however I was eager to hear what she had to say.

"Your sister is currently in a coma."

It had been 6 months now since Nezzie was sent into a coma. Tanjiro visited her almost everyday, rarely missing a chance to examine her condition.

However, one fateful evening as Tanjiro entered his sister's room, he immediately noticed he was not alone as the same doctor who Tanjiro talked to months ago was also present. She motioned Tanjiro to take a seat and he quickly complied; curious as to what she had to report.

"After thorough examination, we have discovered the cause of your family's murder through your sister's numerous injurious."

At this statement Tanjiro widened his eyes in shock. He would finally learn who or what took the thing most precious to him.

"It is clear to us it was a murder, however not just a regular murder.." the doctor trailed off. Tanjiro was confused at this, what did she mean? Was it a serial killer on the loose? A man or woman purposely targeting his family? Tanjiro was on the edge of his seat awaiting the answer.

"Your family was killed.. by demons."

Demons? Real life flesh-consuming Demons? Shouldn't there be Demon Slayers protecting them from stuff like this? Where were they when his family needed protection?! No. Tanjiro knew he shouldn't think like that. The past is in the past and there's nothing he, or anyone for that matter, could do to change it.

The doctor went on to explain how they had come to that conclusion. But Tanjiro didn't care, all he did care for was the fact that his family was murdered; no, slaughtered in cold blood. It enraged him that they were just killed for the heck of it, not even to be feasted upon, just simply for the amusement of it.

After the doctor exited the room, Tanjiro sat next to his precious sister, deep in thought. He came to a realization, he wasn't the only one who lost his family to a bunch of flesh-hungry beasts. Hundreds of people over the years have lost their loved ones to fulfill their gruesome diets. It was wrong, no one deserves to lose the happiness that is formed in relationships. That was when he made his decision...

He would decimate every demon with malicious intent, if it meant that happiness could be preserved for others.

Well, that's that.

Short but it's only the prologue. I should probably explain what's going on. This is a modern au however demons and demon slayers still exist. As the story progresses you'll understand it better, I'm sure. I'll probably update once or twice a week, usually. And I'm definitely not abandoning this because that's probably the worst you can do to a story.
