Izuku's life changed in a flash of flames...
Shouta Aizawa was on his way to the store, tired all the way down to his bones. God, he sounded like an old man. He's only 20.
He had been at work the entire night before, patrolling the alleys and dark paths, watching out for criminals and villains. He had graduated from UA not so long ago, and was still getting into the groove that is hero work.
At least the job comes with a great income and good insurance. It makes his life much easier, and it means he has a comfortable home to walk into after a long day.
That's probably why heroes make a lot of money. Because of how taxing it is to be one, both physically and mentally.
Right now he was craving some cold soba, and was going to buy some of the missing ingredients when he heard a shout followed by some screaming from somewhere further in the city.
The hero in him shot forward in a sprint, passing by the civilians that were running away in the opposition direction in an attempt to get away. He hoped that he could run in and help neutralize the villain by erasing their quirk if he is able.
As he gets closer to the scene, he notices a villain with a quirk that can control wind currents fighting Endeavor.
Endeavor was shooting fire at the villain from all sides, trying to incapacitate them.
Shouta felt nauseous.
The fire was being spread all around by the wind currents, going at faster speeds than they should have and getting close to hitting some of the civilians.
Endeavor didn't seem to care, and continued his careless battle against the villain.
Shouta shook himself out of his daze and quickly ran in and saved the civilians from the fire's path. Most of them had already gotten away when the fight first broke out, leaving only a few stragglers here and there.
Suddenly, a massive fireball going at high speeds went flying past him and towards the store he was about to head into.
It hit the store and resulted in a massive explosion with wood flying everywhere and flames burning everything in its path, a characteristic of Endeavor's quirk, hell flame.
He couldn't move. He stood in shock at the destruction of a careless hero who clearly was only looking for a good fight.
Shouta shook himself out of his daze and began sprinting towards the store, hoping that it was empty and that there was no one inside.
He jumped in through a hole in the side and looked around, keeping his ears peeled for any noises.
He quickly made his way through the aisles, seeing them empty until he came upon what might have been a section for medicine .
There, lay the body of a green haired woman.
After their appointment with the quirk specialist, She and Izuku made their way to the closest store so they could pick up some supplies to help Izuku while the mutations from his quirk grew in.
They got to the medicine aisle when they noticed Mitsuki and Katsuki were there as well.
When Mitsuki noticed her, she smiled and walked over to her.
"Inko! It's good to see you. The brat was telling me about Izuku and that you went to see a quirk specialist. How did it go?"
"Mitsuki! It went well. He has mutations growing in, we are not completely sure what exactly his quirk will really be until it's finished the first development stage. I'm here to pick up some things to help with pain, he's growing fangs, horns, and wings apparently".
Mitsuki whistled with an impressed face. "That's quite the quirk. Sounds like it'll be a strong one."
Inko wore a proud smile on her face. "He and Katsuki will be the best heroes the world will ever see. But for now, we'll need to get through the growth of his mutations first. What brings you and Katsuki here? Everything okay?"
Mitsuki chuckled. "Don't be such a worry wart! Me and the brat are fine. I just came to pick up some Advil for some cramps I've been having. You know how it is"
Inko looked at her with a sympathetic smile. She did know.
They were interrupted by Katsuki's excited yell.
"You're lucky, nerd! With our quirks, we'll be the best heroes in the world, who will save everyone, just like all might!"
The two kids were all smiles and youthful energy. It made Inko happy to see her son being happy. If he was happy, she was happy.
"Come on you Porcupine, we need to pick up some meat for dinner!" Mitsuki called out.
"Okay old hag"
As the two explosive blondes began their usual bickering, they made their way to the meat section.
Izuku began to pout.
"Awww, I wanna hang out with Kacchan."
Inko thought about it a little. "Alright, how about this. You can go join Your Auntie Mitsuku and Katsuki, while I go find the supplies. Then we can meet up later at the front of the store and we can walk home together, how does that sound?"
Somehow, Izuku's smile became even wider. "Thank you momma, you're the best!". He gave her a big, long hug, and ran off to find the Bakugo's.
She turned back to the task at hand.
Ah, there was the pain medication.
Suddenly, there was an explosion of heat and flame. She could feel herself burn and burn, and then she knew no more.
Izuku was walking towards his friend, excited to tell him about a really cool quirk he saw on the way here, when suddenly the store shook and flames quickly began to take over every flammable surface.
He stood stone still, shaking there in shock of what happened.
Mitsuki and Kacchan ran over to him, an expression of fear and a small sliver of relief on their faces.
"Izuku! Where's Inko?" Cried Mitsuki frantically.
Momma! He can't believe he forgot about momma. He ran back over to where he last saw his mom, and then stopped dead in his tracks.
There laid his mom, where he had last seen her moments before. She was on fire, laying sideways on the floor, already dead.
"Momma!" He ran over to her, but his knees bent halfway there, and he fell to the floor in a heap, where he began to sob. The image of his mother engulfed in flames would not leave his mind. It played on repeat, where it would haunt his nightmares for years to come.
"Izuku!"
He turned around and saw Mitsuki with tears in her eyes, and Kacchan who was full on crying and watching the scene with wide eyes.
"Izuku, listen to me. You don't need to see this. We're going to run away and hide under a strong shelter until a hero can get us out of here, okay? You need to live for Inko, Izu. We're going to be safe"
Izuku ran up to Mitsuki and held onto her tightly, and began sobbing into her chest. She picked him up and turned to Kacchan.
"Katsuki, let's hide under those shelves over there before any more of the ceiling collapses".
They ran past all the fiery shelves and stepped over pieces of splintered wood. It was getting hard to breathe, with all the smoke and embers in the air.
They hid under a sturdy plastic shelf that had fallen sideways, huddled together, and hoped that a hero would reach them before the fire would make it impossible to save them.
Izuku never stopped crying.
Shouta's breath left his lungs, leaving him breathless as he looked at the charred body. His first casualty.
He could have used his quirk to stop all of this if he hadn't just stood there like an idiot. Some hero he was.
Suddenly, he heard some faint crying from somewhere else in the store. His body snapped into attention.
It wasn't too late, he could still save someone.
He ran towards the sound where he discovered a woman with spiky blonde hair huddled around two children. One of the boys had spiky blond hair like his mother, and he felt his stomach drop when he saw that the other boy had fluffy green hair.
Hair the same shade of green as the charred woman.
Quickly, he approached them and called out to the woman. "I am a pro hero. I need you to quickly make your way to the west end of the store with me. The building is unstable and may fall at any time. I'll watch out for any warning that it may collapse"
They weaved through the rubble of the destroyed store, narrowly avoiding pieces of falling debri and fire, running as fast as they could. Eventually they made it to the hole that Shouta had climbed into to get into the store.
A paramedic noticed them and rushed towards them, checking for any injuries that might need immediate attention. They were completely fine, but a little out of breath so they were sent off to the hospital to make sure it wouldn't develop into something more serious.
Once the fire was put out by the firemen who had arrived at the scene, they carefully made their way inside to check for any casualties.
Other than the green woman, there were two others, a man in his 30's and another woman in her 20's.
Shouta has never felt more like a failure in his life.
