Ratchet had been ordered to activate the space bridge by Optimus Prime, and was running towards the button that would activate it, but Starscream was trying to gun him down from the air, which caught the attention of Impactor, a Decepticon whose life Ratchet had saved following an ambush on the Autobots.
"If Starscream kills Ratchet, the space bridge won't be activated in enough time", Impactor said.
Impactor picked up a piece of debris and hurled it towards Starscream, and the recently-appointed seeker commander was knocked off course, which resulted in him missing Ratchet and allowing the medic to press the button and activate the space bridge.
"I made it", Ratchet said, "the space bridge has been activated."
Impactor ran over Ratchet and the latter looked at the former, knowing exactly what he had done.
"You saved my life", Ratchet said, "thank you."
"No, thank you, Ratchet", Impactor said, "for showing me the light."
A seeker fired near Mirage, who was helping to defend the space bridge, and caused an explosion.
"Get to cover", Mirage said.
Ratchet and Impactor followed Mirage down the bridge leading from the space bridge, and after Optimus threw the Allspark into the space bridge and Omega Supreme joined the battle, the Ark flew next to the bridge leading to the space bridge, and the Autobots began to board it, until Red Alert, who was helping Autobots onto the ship, got shot and fell down into the depths of Cybertron.
"Red Alert", Arcee shouted.
The shot had come from Skytread, who was trying to stop the Autobots from boarding the ship.
"I'll hold him off", Impactor said.
Impactor ran up to Skytread and tackled his former comrade, and the two soon engaged in a fight.
"Traitor", Skytread said.
"The Autobots have shown me a new perspective", Impactor said, "I will follow this path no more."
Punches were thrown as the two battled, and the Ark began to take off following a goodbye between Optimus and Elita One, and as it rose into the sky, Ratchet looked at Impactor.
"Goodbye, my friend", Ratchet said.
At last, Impactor gained the upper hand and blasted Skytread right in his spark chamber using his shoulder cannon, and watched as the Ark flew through the space bridge.
"God speed, Autobots", Impactor said.
After the Ark flew into the space bridge, it (the space bridge) had exploded, leaving the fates of all the Autobots on board unknown, and Impactor joined his fellow defected Decepticon Jetfire in offering his services to Elita, Chromia, and Red Alert, who had all stayed behind on Cybertron and decided to continue the fight against Megatron.
"So, what are we going to do for a base", Chromia asked.
"Don't worry", Jetfire said, "I know a place."
Jetfire led the others towards a part of the planet where an abandoned base of some sort laid.
"This was a seeker outpost", Jetfire said, "but it went abandoned as the Decepticons conquered more territory."
"This should do for now", Elita said, "I'll send out a signal to any Autobots on Cyberton who may still be alive."
"And I'll check to see if any of us are injured", Red Alert said.
Elita sent a signal out across Cybertron, and Red Alert checked over the others for injuries, with the only ones being Chromia having been shot in the arm and Jetfire's leg being injured, and after that was done, he changed Jetfire and Impactor's Decepticon insignias to Autobot ones, signifying their change in faction.
"Welcome to the Autobots, you two", Elita said, "we're pleased to have you fighting along side us."
"As are we", Impactor said.
Then, Chromia walked up next to Elita.
"Elita, there's a group of Autobots in front of our base", Chromia said, "I think your message got through."
"Did you check to make sure that none of them were Decepticons in disguise", Elita asked.
"Yes", Chromia said, "I interviewed every single one of them, and none of them are Decepticons."
"Very good", Elita said, "let them in."
Chromia opened the gates to the base, and dozens of surviving Autobots entered the base, and once they had all settled down, Elita spoke to them.
"Autobots, thanks to Optimus Prime and his troops, the Allspark was transported off-world and out of Megatron's reach", Elita said, "however, the space bridge was destroyed right as the Ark flew into it."
All the Autobots in the room gasped in horror.
"Optimus Prime, dead", a Cog recolor asked.
"How will we stand against Megatron without a leader", a Mirage recolor asked.
"I don't know for sure if the Autobots died or not", Elita said, "but what I do know is that we, the remaining Autobots on Cybertron, must make it our mission to continue the good fight against the Decepticons if we want the Cybertron we once knew back."
Elita's speech began to motivate the Autobots.
"We may be a minority", Elita said, "but if we fight together, we can be as strong as a majority!"
This made the Autobots cheer for their new de facto leader.
"This is for you, Optimus", Elita said.
A little later, as all the Autobots began getting themselves situated, Red Alert walked over to Elita with some urgent news.
"Excuse me, Elita One", Red Alert said, "but we seem to have a situation."
"What is it, Red Alert", Elita asked.
Red Alert led Elita to storeroom that had a few energon cubes inside it.
"It doesn't look like we have enough energon to support all the Autobots in this base", Red Alert said.
"Where are we going to get a fresh supply", Elita asked.
Then, Impactor walked over to them.
"Excuse me", Impactor said, "but I couldn't help but overhear your situation."
A little later, Impactor was showing Elita some blueprints to a building.
"This is where the Decepticons keep some of their energon off-fortress for safe keeping", Impactor said, "the plan is that I'll lead a group of Autobots into the storehouse through these sewer pipes that lead into it, and then we'll steal as much energon as we can and bring it back to base."
But Elita had her doubts about the plan.
"I'm not sure this is such a good idea", Elita said, "it's a very big risk to take."
"I'm not saying it isn't risky", Impactor said, "but, we do need the energon."
Elita knew that Impactor was right, and after taking a moment to think about it, she came to a decision.
"Very well", Elita said, "I will put together a team for you."
"Thank you, Elita One", Impactor said.
Impactor waited patiently for Elita, and pretty soon, she returned with three Autobots by her side.
"Well, I've spoken to every Autobot in the base", Elita said, "and I managed to find three Autobots to accompany you on this mission."
The first Autobot was a green and yellow male bot.
"This is Springer", Elita said, "he's a triple changer and one of the most skilled fighters on Cybertron."
"Greetings, Impactor", Springer said, "if you really are as good a fighter as I've heard, then it will be an honor to fight alongside you."
"You too", Impactor said.
The next Autobot was a red and while male bot.
"This is Sixgun", Elita said, "he's a weaponizer, just like Cog."
"You bet your blasters I am", Sixgun said, "watch this."
Sixgun combined with Elita, and then returned to robot mode.
"Pretty neat, huh", Sixgun asked.
"Yes", Impactor said, "very impressive."
The last Autobot was a male bot with a body similar to Ironhide's, but was red and blue and had a different head.
"And this is Crosshairs", Elita said, "he's one of the Autobots' greatest weapons specialists."
"I got a gun for every kind of mission", Crosshairs said.
"Good to know", Impactor said.
"Now then, this is an in and out mission", Elita said, "you need to sneak in, get the energon, and return to base without getting caught."
"Right", Impactor said, "in and out, you can rely on us."
"Good to hear", Elita said.
Later, the four Autobots walked into Decepticon territory, and Impactor noticed some Refraktors standing with rifles in some towers.
"We need to take those guards out", Impactor said.
"Leave it to me", Springer said.
Springer transformed into his helicopter mode, flew up, and shot the Refraktors out of the towers, after which he transformed back into robot mode and rejoined his comrades.
"Okay, let's go", Impactor said.
Impactor led the others over to a sewer cap.
"Here's the pipe that leads into the storehouse", Impactor said, "let's go."
Impactor took the cap off and climbed into the pipe, followed by the others.
"Gee", Springer said, "this sure ain't no tunnel of love."
"You got that right", Crosshairs said.
"How close are we to the storehouse, chief", Sixgun asked.
"Pretty close", Impactor said, "but be on your guard."
Soon, they stopped in front of a ladder going upwards.
"If my sense of navigation is correct, the energon storehouse should be up here", Impactor said, "I'll climb up and take a look."
Impactor climbed up the latter, removed a sewer cap, and looked inside the storehouse and found that it was full of energon and empty of Decepticons.
"Okay, the coast is clear", Impactor said.
The others quickly climbed up the ladder into the storehouse.
"Now, grab as much energon as you can carry and let's get out of here", Impactor said.
The Autobots grabbed as much energon as they could, but before they could leave the storehouse, they heard someone climbing the ladder.
"What's that", Crosshairs asked.
The four Autobots watched the hole as a purple Decepticon climbed out of it, followed by a bunch of Refraktors.
"Uh-oh", Impactor said.
"Uh-oh is right", the purple Decepticon said.
"Oh, hello, Brunt", Impactor said, "long time no see."
"Not since you betrayed your kind", Brunt said.
"Betrayed my kind", Impactor asked, "by planning to reformat all non-Decepticons on the planet into Decepticons, your kind betrayed Cybertron."
"You were one of the best Decepticons there was", Brunt said, "and you threw it all away just to fight for this weak faction."
"The Autobots are not weak, and they have the same mission I do", Impactor said, "to protect Cybertron."
Brunt let out an angry growl.
"So be it", Brunt said.
The Refraktors powered up their weapons, but Impactor and the others had other plans.
"Now", Impactor said.
Impactor and Springer got out their weapons, and Sixgun combined with Crosshairs, while Brunt pretended to be intimidated.
"Oh no", Brunt said, "whatever shall I do?"
Brunt, who was a weaponizer himself, combined with a Refraktor clone named Scrapface.
"This is our cue, boys", Scrapface said, "let's get 'em!"
The Refraktors were about to open fire, but Impactor and the others were prepared.
"Now", Impactor said.
Before long, there was a big dogfight between the team of Autobots and the Decepticons, and a shot from Impactor's pistol caused Brunt's parts to fall off of Scrapface and revert back to robot mode, and the former Decepticon was soon locked into combat with the current Decepticon.
"We both know how this ends", Brunt said.
"That's right", Impactor said, "we make off with the energon, and you report back to your leader about a failed mission."
Brunt tried to punch Impactor, but the latter grabbed his fist and threw him away, and then shot his grappling line at Brunt and swung him around in circles before slamming him against the wall.
"That takes care of him", Impactor said.
Then, he turned to Springer, Sixgun, and Crosshairs, who had dispatched the last of the Refraktors.
"Okay, boys", Impactor said, "let's wrap this up."
"I thought you'd never ask", Springer said.
Crosshairs transformed into vehicle mode, and as Impactor and Sixgun loaded him up with energon cubes, Springer began setting explosives around the storehouse.
"Okay, guys", Springer said, "when I press this button, we've got 15 seconds before these explosives go off."
"Got it", Impactor said, "let's roll."
Springer pressed the button, and then transformed into his car mode, followed by Impactor and Sixgun both transforming into vehicle mode, and they all followed Crosshairs out of the storehouse just before it exploded.
"Dang", Crosshairs said, "what an exit."
"Thank you", Springer said, "I try."
"Enough boasting", Impactor said, "let's get this energon back to HQ."
Pretty soon, Impactor and his troops arrived back at the Autobots' headquarters, and they were helping Elita, Chromia, Red Alert, and Jetfire store away the energon they had stolen.
"Well done, you four", Elita said, "you have done us proud."
"Now we have enough energon to last for a good while", Jetfire said.
"It was an honor to complete such a mission", Impactor said.
Then, he saluted, followed by Springer, Sixgun, and then Crosshairs.
"We heard all about your little adventure", Chromia said, "you really wrecked that storehouse."
"We sure did", Impactor said.
"Do you guys plan on wrecking something every time you go on a mission", Red Alert asked.
Chromia and Red Alert's words gave Impactor an idea.
"I think I may have an idea for what we should call our unit", Impactor said, "the Wreckers."
The others liked that idea.
"It does have a nice ring to it", Springer said.
"Let's do it", Sixgun said.
"I'm in", Crosshairs said.
"Great", Impactor said, "now then, with your permission, Elita One, we would like that to be the name of our group."
"Very well", Elita said, "from now on, you four will now be known as the Wreckers."
Impactor, Springer, Sixgun, and Crosshairs cheered in celebration, and from that day on, the Wreckers were given special missions that required lots of firepower and strength, and they always completed them with success.
