BUP: The Search for Funny
Prologue
In times long ago, before the first baby dode took breath, the universe was chaos. No space, no air, no time, no stars in the sky. Nothing except the gods. The gods saw the chaos and were disgusted at the site. In turn they formed the universe. Then they filled the universe with space, time, air, and stars. Next, they populated the stars with animals and plants. Lastly, they created the dodes, curious creatures capable of thoughts and emotions, out of their own image.
Initially the dodes lived happily together, with peace and prosperity. Each dode had food on their plate, wine in their cups, and roofs over their heads. However, the dodes found difficulty in managing their wealth.
They asked, "who is to protect us from robbery, ensure that what I own is what I own?"
And so, kingdoms were born to protect the property and ensure prosperity of their citizens. Seeking to provide as much wealth to their populations as possible, kingdoms started to look to each other to provide that wealth. Often times, neighboring kingdoms would oblige, other times, they would not. And so, wars were started.
Many dodes died fighting what are now called "the prosperity wars," even greater died from illness' coming the lands they were fighting. The greatest tragedy of all is that so many kingdoms spent all their abundant wealth, fighting wars to get more. Soon all the world was struck down by squalor
Eventually the gods had enough. They put together a power, a tiny slice of their essence, and created The Funny.
There is a lot that is said about The Funny. Some say it makes you god, gives you the power of a god, lets you kill a god, etc. Some are of the opinion that its power is beyond the mind of dodes, other's say it doesn't exist at all. What is for certain is that The Funny is a manifestation of the owner's will. The user does not reflect the power of The Funny, but instead The Funny reflects the user.
The gods found the strongest willed dode, whose name is lost in time, and granted them the power of The Funny.
They told him, "This is The Funny, a power of unspeakable nature. Use this power to turn your world ridden with war and poverty into the peaceful, prosperous one, it once was."
And so, the dode did just that, using his newly found power to bring peace to his land, and for generations he kept it as such. It should be noted that The Dode Who's Name is Lost in Time was a caring, generous, devote dode, who didn't let his inner demons corrupt him away from his sacred duty. His son, who's name would live on in infamy, felt differently.
The dode's son's name was Bup. Day by day, week by week, month by month, year by year, he watched his father's power and endlessly daydreamed about its possibilities. He desired nothing more in the entire world than to have it for himself. His heart became corrupt with greed, lust, and vile.
Went Bup's father's time had come, The Funny was passed down to him. Bup used his newly found power to commit his whim amongst the world. Never before had the lands been meet with more death, plague, and scorn. Bup placed himself as ruler of the of all the lands, judging all other dodes with a harsh iron fist.
There was a time when the dodes saw no hope of ending Bup's tyranny.
Until…
A group of 4 dodes, students of the ancient arts, came together to put a stop to Bup once and for all. They called themselves, The Guild of Hope, and when the time came to strike, they stroke in what is now called The Battle of Nentendoh.
The battle was gruesome, lasting 4 months and 20 days, but eventually the Guild of Hope reigned supreme.
After Bup was slain, The Guild of Hope decided to evenly spread the power of The Funny between the four.
There was Bug, the Master of Ancient Beasts, Oak, the Mistress of Pleasure, Great, the Master of Apes, and powerful of them all, Merio, the Master of The Funny.
For a while they kept the world in peace, but eventually even they found The Funny too vulnerable to corruption. The four of them decided to hide all parts of their power deep within the world, only known by them alone, and then go into hiding.
Well now you know the story of The Funny, Bup, and The Guild of Hope, but there's trouble in the air, and now it's time to be told the story of the brave messenger dode who brought back The Funny when the world needed it most…
