A/N: Hey y'all. Sorry I left this for so long. It's been hard to focus on writing recently with everything that's been going on. Work is getting a lot harder with more and more employees catching the virus, and I just recently moved into my new apartment. Anyway, I'm gonna try and write this thing now, starting with this first chapter. I looked over it and I wasn't happy with how short it was, so I extended it to have both Shadow and Sonic's point of view. I also renamed the chapter. I was gonna post it yesterday to keep with the double T updates, but again, work consumed me. Anyway, I'm just gonna leave this here and hopefully I'll have a new chapter for you all by Tuesday.
Chapter 1: Pack and Prepare
If our love is tragedy why are you my remedy? If our love is insanity why are you my clarity?
Shadow paused in his packing and grabbed his phone, a smile already on his face as he recognized the ringtone. He looked at the caller ID just to further confirm his thoughts before answering the call.
"Hey Blue."
"Hey Shads!" Sonic's excited voice came from the other line. "I'm almost all packed up. How are you coming along?"
"Almost done, just gotta grab a few more things and then I'm heading your way."
"Ok, see you when you get here. Love you!"
"Love you too." Shadow chuckled and ended the call before going back to packing his bag.
It's been two weeks since Sonic and Shadow were released from the hospital after barely surviving a month lost in the Amazon rainforest, and nearly five weeks since the two declared their love for each other. In those weeks, their love for each other has grown strong. They were perfect for each other. Compatible, trusting, loyal. The only thing was, that even if all of that was true, they had not even had their first date yet.
When the two hedgehogs came home from the Amazon, the first thing Shadow did was start looking for something for the two of them to do for their first date. A simple fancy dinner would probably work, but that wasn't their style, especially Sonic's. Sonic always had the urge to go go go, no matter what was going on. There was no way he would be able to sit still through something so fancy and proper, so Shadow wasn't even gonna try. So instead, he made a reservation for something much more interesting. A climbing trip up the Swiss Alps.
They were outdoorsmen, and a couple of daredevils. It was ideal for them, regardless of what they had been through in the Amazon. Sure, the rainforest was dangerous and it almost killed them, but they weren't going to let that damper their love for the outdoors.
Plus, the reservations were already made, there was no turning back now.
As Shadow was packing a few extra things, a whine sounded behind him. His ear twitched and he looked over his shoulder, smiling warmly at a white labrador pup that was staring up at him beggingly with her large brown eyes.
"Sorry Casew, but you can't come along with me and Sonic during this trip." He said to her. "Dogs can't climb mountains. But don't worry. Tails has agreed to watch over you until we come back."
Casew, the six month old labrador that saved Sonic and Shadow from the Amazon, barked happily, even though she didn't really understand what her master had said. Shadow chuckled and shook his head before going back to packing his bag. He was almost finished when he looked over at his dresser. Sitting on top of the dark polished wood, his green Chaos Emerald shined as the light from his window glared upon it. Shadow frowned and went over to the emerald, picking it up and inspecting it in his hand.
If only he had this when they were lost, he and Sonic wouldn't have had to go through such hardship. But then again, if he did have it, he wouldn't be in the relationship he has with Sonic now, he wouldn't have Casew, and he would still be the grumpy and lonely hedgehog he once was before. He smiled and placed the emerald back down and zipped up his bag. Good things don't come in easy ways.
He put on his backpack and picked up the keys to his new truck and a leash. Casew saw the leash and immediately started going nuts. Shadow chuckled and knelt down to her. "What's it girl? You wanna go for a ride? You wanna go for a ride?" Casew barked and spun excitedly. Shadow laughed and hooked the leash to her pink collar. "Well c'mon then. Let's go for a ride."
Casew barked and stayed by Shadow's side as they walked into the garage together. Inside, Shadows' black and red Harley Davidson motorcycle sat. It has been sitting there since G.U.N brought it back to the house after Shadow had left it in the parking lot last month. Next to the motorcycle, a black FORD pickup truck stood tall. Shadow opened the passenger side and let Casew hop in, before he closed it and went over to the driver's side and got in. He put the key in the ignition, turned the truck on, and drove out of the garage, heading towards the home of Sonic and Tails, knowing that his blue boyfriend was waiting anxiously for him to start their new adventure.
...
Meanwhile with Sonic, the blue hedgehog was almost finished with his own packing, he was just debating on one last thing. A satellite phone.
Tails had gotten him this after they came home from the Amazon. He said it was for precautionary measures, in case he was caught up in a situation like that again. He wasn't sure if he would need it, but it was a nice thought. He inspected it in his hand, the smooth silver covering shining in the light. He and Shadow will be climbing in the mountains. Mountain climbing was very dangerous, but he knew they would be careful. But still, there was a nagging feeling in his gut.
Finally, Sonic sighed and put the phone in his bag and zipped it up. It was better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang and he grinned brightly, knowing who was at the door.
"I'll get it!" He yelled to Tails before zipping down the stairs and over to the front door. He opened the door, ready to greet his boyfriend into loving arms. Instead, he was greeted by a large puppy jumping onto him, knocking him to the floor as she licked his face without mercy.
"Ah! Casew! Knock it off!" He laughed, trying to push the 50 pounds of muscle off of him.
"Casew! Down girl!" Shadow scolded, pulling the dog's leash, making her jump off of the blue hedgehog. Shadow smiled and helped Sonic stand back up. "Are you ok?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." Sonic giggled, wiping the remaining slobber off. "A little doggy drool never hurt anybody."
Shadow nodded and knelt down to the dog. "Bad girl, Casew. You don't jump." He scolded her. Casew whined and began licking his face. Shadow yelped and laughed, standing back up and wiping his face. "Ah, I can't stay mad at you."
Sonic chuckled. "And you say I'm the big softie."
"Hush." Shadow teased, sticking his tongue out playfully. Sonic smirked and quickly licked the ebony's exposed tongue, catching him off guard. Shadow smirked back. "Something you wanna say, hedgehog?"
"Oh just come here." Sonic giggled, wrapping his arms around his lover's shoulders and bringing him into a deep, passionate kiss.
Shadow hummed and kissed back, closing his eyes and running his hands over Sonic's slim body. Before things could get too heated, though, there was a cough from behind Sonic.
"Are you guys gonna go on your date, or are you gonna just stand there kissing all day?" Tails teased with a smirk, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Mm!" Sonic yelped, pulling away from the kiss and sheepishly smiling at Tails, his face red with blush. "Sorry Tails. That must've been really awkward."
"I don't mind." The fox shook his head as he approached them. "As long as you two don't go overboard. It's nice to see you two so in love."
"You're damn right I love him." Shadow smirked, purring as he nuzzled into Sonic's neck.
"Shadow stop it." Sonic giggled, pushing him away. "That tickles, and we gotta finish getting ready."
"Well I'm already ready. That's why I'm here. Are you ready?"
Sonic chuckled. "Yes Shads, I'm ready, but we still gotta make it to our reservations."
"True." Shadow nodded, then looked to Tails. "You sure you don't mind watching over Casew while we're gone? She can be a bit of a handful."
"I'm sure I can manage." Tails smiled as he walked over and took the leash from him. "You two go along and have fun. I got this under control. And please, please, please, please call if anything happens. We don't need a repeat of the Amazon."
"You got that right." Shadow nodded, watching as Sonic ran upstairs, then came back, carrying his bag on his back. "You ready?"
"Yep, let's go." Sonic smiled.
Shadow smiled back and took his hand. As they left the house, Sonic looked back to Tails. "Bye Tails! See you in a few days!"
"Bye Sonic! Bye Shadow!" Tails waved back. As soon as the truck was out of sight, Tails sighed, petting Casew's head. "Please stay safe."
