Chapter 1
"In the news, they are saying we should stay inside and have minimal contact with others." Bellamy smiled at the screen as his mother ranted on and on about the quarantine they were being submitted. It seemed so unreal to him.
"We know mom. You've said it a thousand times already," Octavia complained. "We'll be safe, mom. I promise." Aurora gave her children a stern look but smiled anyway. As a single mother of two, she had always given them a lot of freedom but was always concerned, trying to make sure the siblings were okay. Even after having moved out years ago.
"I still think you should come here, Bellamy. I don't like the idea of you being all alone." Bellamy had to resist the urge to roll his eyes. He had considered it to be honest. It would be great to be back home, with his mother cooking and pampering him. But he loved his one-bedroom apartment, and this would allow him to have some alone time, to catch up to his reading and maybe try to not be a mess in the kitchen. He had wanted to stop living off takeaway for a while now.
"I'm okay, mom. I've already ordered some food from the grocery store and I have enough for two weeks."
"You're cooking," Octavia asked surprised.
"I'm not an idiot, O. I'm a thirty-year-old man. I can take care of myself."
Aurora sighed. "Thirty years. Where has all the time gone?" Bellamy couldn't help but smile at his mother's nostalgia. "I just wish you found someone." There it was, the girlfriend talk.
"Mom," he warned.
"I know, I know. You're fine. But your sister has Gabriel and the baby. I just wish you weren't so lonely." Octavia giggled and the left the screen to attend to her crying child.
"I'm not lonely. I have my girls." Aurora opened her mouth, probably to argue when her doorbell rang.
"Who's that?" Octavia asked, reappearing on the camera holding her six-month-old, Oliver.
"That's Indra. We've decided that there is no point in being quarantined alone, so she'll move in here for the next weeks." Aurora blushed and Bellamy let out a chuckle.
"So, you wanted me there for what? Babysit?"
"Oh, shush. I have to go. I'll talk to you kids later." Aurora logged off and Bellamy and Octavia were left staring at each other.
"20 bucks that she'll be drunk by dinner time." His sister said and he shook his head with a smile. "I know you don't want to go to mom's, but you know you can come and stay with me."
"Are you worried I'll be alone with my thoughts," Bellamy joked.
"Yes. And it would be nice to have some company besides Oliver." He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.
"What about Gabriel?" Octavia's smile disappeared and Bellamy noticed her the worried shine in her eyes.
"He rented a room near the hospital," she explained. "It's a mess down there, Bell. Too many sick people. Not enough staff and a disease no one knows anything about. He's afraid to bring something home and infect us."
"He knows that he could stay away weeks, right?"
Octavia nodded. "He is just trying to keep us safe."
"I know. " Octavia gave Oliver a small peck on his forehead and Bellamy watched as she smiled sadly at her baby. "Everything will be okay, O."
When he met Gabriel, he had been unsure how he and Octavia matched. She had only introduced two other boyfriends to him, and he had nothing to do with them. Her first boyfriend had been Lincoln, her high school boyfriend, who was two years older than her. At first, he didn't like the guy very much, but when Lincoln enlisted in the army, he couldn't very well hate a man who was fighting for his country. Eventually, the two of them became friends, mostly due to their shared love for Octavia. Unfortunately, fate had been cruel, and Lincoln had died overseas, five months after proposing to his girlfriend. Octavia was twenty and completely heartbroken.
Two years later, she met Ilian, a biker with a rude appearance and an even worse attitude. Bellamy hated the guy the moment they met. Fortunately, the relationship didn't last long. Ilian kept trying to pull Octavia into his biker world, but she was willing to just make the commitment. So, they broke up in a rather spectacular way.
A few months later, Octavia sprained her ankle on a run and had gone to the emergency room. Gabriel was just starting his residency and was working that day. According to him, was love at first sight. When Bellamy met his future brother-in-law, he had been dating Octavia for almost a year. To everyone's surprise, the two actually hit it off. Gabriel was polite, hard-working, and respectful. The kind of man he always thought would be worthy of his sister.
Of course, he had to go propose and make a baby. Aurora was over the moon, but that also meant she was all over Bellamy about doing the same.
Saying good-bye to his sister, he turned the computer off and looked around his apartment. Well, if he was staying locked up inside the next weeks, he should make the best of the time he had.
Bellamy spent most of the day cleaning his apartment, decluttering as well as he could. He finished right before dinner and deciding against trying his luck in the kitchen, just prepared a ham and cheese sandwich, and sat on the couch watching a World War II documentary on Netflix.
Two hours later, he got up and stretched his muscles. Doing nothing was exhausting and it had only been a day. He hated the idea of staying inside for God knows how long. His first eyes fell upon his balcony. Some fresh air would do him good.
It was already dark outside, and the city was quieter than ever. Bellamy leaned into the rails and let out a sigh. Maybe he should take upon Octavia's offer and move with her for a while.
A light rustling sound to his right caught his attention and he turned to find his new neighbor on her own balcony, enjoying a late-night cigarette.
She had moved in a couple of months ago and he still hadn't had the chance to properly meet her. They had crossed paths a few times and he knew her name was Clarke Griffin as it was written on the mailbox. She was smaller than him, but not as small as Octavia. Her long blond hair was like a halo around her head, cascading down her back, and she had fair, pale skin. In the dark night, she looked like an angel.
He watched as brought the cigarette to her pink, full lips and blushed. He shifted uncomfortably, trying to fight down the heat rising on his cheeks, Bellamy thought how he had never considered smoking a turn on, but his new neighbor sure made it look sexy. Deciding his attraction to someone he had never even said a word to was too much for him, Bellamy decided to go inside. Maybe tomorrow he would muster enough courage to say something instead of just staring like a creep.
Hello there,
Here it is. My new Bellarke, Four Walls :)
This will be a COVID-19 based fanfiction and, as I'm not sure how other countries are actually handling the situation (I only get some pieces now and then), Arkadia isn't in any specify place. It's just Arkadia. And I'll use the laws and course of action from my own country.
I hope you like it!
Don't forget to give me your feedback.
Love,
Jane
