Chapter 3

Karin was led through the cement prison as male prisoners yelled and the cat called to her. Karin kept her head down, trying to avoid the other prisoners.

"What sweetheart, you can imprison people, but you can't take being a prisoner yourself?" the guard laughed before opening up a prison cell and roughly shoved her in. Karin glared daggers at the guards.

"You got the wrong idea! I didn't traffic, Shiro!" she yelled, but the guards ignored her, walking away down the hallway. Karin sighed as she sat down in the corner of the cell and brought her knees up to her chest. She leaned her head back on the wall, sighing. Her mind pondered her thoughts for several hours until a group of guards came into her cell; grabbing her, they forced her to their interrogation room, tying her to the chair. Karin fought against the ropes trying to wear them down to snap them. A guard grabbed her face, holding her head as still as possible as one yanked her hair, cutting it. Karin struggled against them as best she could, but after the scissors were pulled awake, she felt a slap go across her cheek. Karin held in her whimpers, biting her tongue as she turned to glare at them.

"Why did you take the prince!" One guard asked, tipping her chair back.

"I didn't! I saved him four years ago," she growled before spitting at the guard. The guard quickly punched her, causing her to wince and her nose to bleed.

"He's been missing for 12 years, and you're telling me you just happen to be with him?" the guard yelled in her face.

"You're all idiots! Think about it 12 years ago, he was four, meaning I was only two. How could I help kidnap someone when I was two," she replied smugly. The guards clenched their fists before knocking over her chair, causing Karin to hit her head.

"I think you're lying, and we will find out the truth even if we have to beat you until you're almost dead," the guard threatened. With those words, Karin's eyes widened before she received several blows from the guard. They were true to their word, and they beat her until she was almost dead. Her body had black and blue bruises covering it by the time it was over. After 9 hours of the abuse, they finally left Karin alone, lying on the ground. She could feel her head pulsing as it bled and ran into her hair. Karin wanted to cry, yell, and scream but bit her tongue, stopping herself. This was her punishment for hiding Shiro's identity for so long. She mentally beat herself for not realizing the approaching people in the woods. Eventually, Karin felt light-headed and passed out due to blood loss.

The following day when Karin woke up, she was still on the ground, and her head was pounding, making her dizzy. It was only her luck when the guards came back, sitting up the chair before placing a bag over her head. Cutting the ropes, they forced her to stand up, tying her hands behind her back before pushing her out of the room and into an outside courtyard; her heart dropped with a decent idea of where she was. They couldn't kill her right away. They had to wait a week at least, she prayed silently to herself, but her theory was confirmed as she was forced upstairs. She could hear people yelling from where she was. She was forced to an abrupt stop before they yanked the bag off her head. Karin shook her head, trying to get her hair out of her face so that she could see. For the first time in Karin's life, she was terrified as she trembled, looking over the crowd that wanted her dead for something that she didn't even do. Looking up, she could see the hangman noose waiting for her. She closed her eyes, praying for everything to return to how it once was, but she knew it wouldn't as she was forced forward below the noose. The guard grabbed it and was about to place it around her neck when a series of screams came from the back of the crowd. Three massive wolves plowed through the crowd. Kana jumped on the stage knocking the guards away from Karin.

"Karin," Kana called. Karin nodded before forcing her shoulder to be dislocated, allowing her to rotate her arm to get her hands in front of her before climbing on Kana's back. The moment Karin was secure and had a good grip on Kana's fur, she let out a howl before jumping off the stage and running out of the kingdom with the other two followings close behind them. Karin kept her face buried in Kana's fur as they ran. It didn't take them very long to get to the old woman, Hana's cabin.

"Karin!" Hana called out, quickly going over to the arriving wolves. Kana let Karin off her back to allow the older woman to look at Karin and cut the ropes. Hana forced Karin's shoulder back into its socket, making Karin wince a little before placing the arm in a sling and treating some of the more severe injuries she had sustained.

"How dare that brat! Almost getting Karin killed after we helped him, we took him in as one of our own! Humans can never be trusted!" Kana growled as she clawed the ground. Karin wanted to defend him but couldn't as she sat silently looking down as Hana finished tying a bandage around her head. "Karin, let's go; we can't stay here; we have to try for another territory," Kana ordered her adoptive daughter. Karin nodded, thanking Hana before going over to Kana and climbing on to her back. The pack quickly assembled. "Hana, you should get to the kingdom, stay away from here for a while, and good luck," was Kana's last words before running off into the woods. They passed the abandoned building that Karin had found Toshiro before crossing a meadow and settling in the trees that laid just slightly beyond it. Kana and Karin made an area for themselves before settling down; Karin laid on Kana's warm stomach using it as a pillow. After being stuck in silences, Karin finally spoke,

"Shi- I mean, Toshiro was mad when I told him the truth; it was poor timing since we got captured right after. I shouldn't have hidden it, and I should have told him! I got what I deserved," Karin scolded herself. Kana gently pressed her muzzle against Karin's face trying to comfort her. Kana sighed, knowing that she wouldn't be able to help her adoptive daughter. The only person that could help Karin now was the one that Karin had chosen to love with her heart and soul, Toshiro Hitsugaya, but she didn't know if he was even going to come to help her.
