This is a prequel to my story Julia. It was requested by my good friend Alexia.
…..
It was a beautiful Friday afternoon, Julia was just leaving the station to go home to rest, when she fell down and beginning screaming in pain.
"Julia!" William says as he grabs her, "are you ok?"
Julia nods, and gets up and sees water on the floor, "William it's time"
"Are you sure? Your only 8 months!"
"Yes, take me to the hospital, now!"
The inspector approaches the couple, you need a cab, "Higgins!"
Higgins jumps, "yes, sir?"
"Get your cab and take them to the hospital"
"Sir" Henry said as he runs out to get his cab ready.
"Crabtree, help us" said the inspector
"Sir" said George as he grabs the door for them.
They get outside and gently put Julia in the cab, followed by William.
"Are you two all settle?" asked the inspector
"Yes, were fine" said Murdoch
"Good, let us know, when the baby is born"
"We will"
"LET'S GO!" screamed Julia
"Yes, go Higgins"
They arrive safely to the hospital, and Julia was put in a room, while William waited out in the hallway.
It was half an hour later, when William saw George and the inspector coming down the hallway.
"Sir, George? I didn't call"
"We couldn't wait, to see our godchild" said the inspector
William chuckled
"Murdoch, a nurse" the inspector said as a nurse approached them
"Detective?" said Nurse Roacher
"Yes"
"Can we talk privately?"
Murdoch nodded and they went down the hallway a bit, "what's going on, is my wife ok?"
"She has tried pushing, but the baby is stuck and your wives' blood pressure is spiking"
"Oh, no"
"But we need your permission to perform a caesarean. A caes…"
"I know what they are, Julia informed me of the procedure in case this happened and yes you have my permission"
"Good, thank you Detective" the nurse then left
William walked back to George and the inspector, "is something wrong, Murdoch?"
"They just needed my permission, that they needed to do a procedure on Julia."
"Oh" the inspector said
They waited for another half an hour, when William hears, "Detective?"
William turns around and Nurse Roacher, "congratulations, you have a son."
The inspector and George have him a pat on the back, "congratulations Murdoch"
"Thank you, how's Julia?"
"She's excellent, and you will be able to see them both in a few minutes"
William smiled, "Thank you"
The nurse leaves and walks down the hallway
A few minutes later, William is informed that he can see his wife and son. He goes to Julia's room and knocks on the door, "can this detective, come see his wife and son"
"Come in, Detective. Come in and see your son"
William walks in and approaches, Julia. She hands him their son. William takes the baby in his arms and sits down.
"Oh, Julia he's beautiful."
"Yes, he is. He looks just like you. He has your hair, eyes, nose"
"But Julia he has your forehead, and beautiful mouth and chin. Overall, he's a beautiful combination of us"
"Yes, he is."
"He's a little Daniel, Julia"
"Daniel? You still want to name him, Daniel?"
"Yes, Julia. You said you loved that name, and it was your grandfather's name."
"Aw, William. Wait a minute, that's it, we'll name him, Daniel William"
William looks at Daniel, "It's perfect"
After a few minutes, the inspector and George met their godson and instantly fell in love with him.
A few weeks later, Daniel was baptized in William's church; and Julia promised William they would raise their son in the catholic faith.
It was 5 months later, and Julia wasn't feeling too well, she decided to leave work and go home and rest. She picked up Daniel from Mrs. Kitchen's and took him home. Julia called William and told him she was fine and she would have dinner ready.
As Julia was cooking, she put Daniel in his playpen, but got dizzy and decided to sit down. But missed the chair and passed out.
William came home to the smell of burnt food and Daniel crying in his playpen.
"Hello, Julia?"
"Daniel, it's ok, daddy's home. Where's mama?"
Daniel points to the table and William sees Julia on the floor.
"Julia!" He puts Daniel back in his playpen and runs over to Julia
"Julia?" he felt for a pulse, which was slow and steady.
He decides to call for an ambulance and ask Mrs. Kitchen to watch Daniel
He also calls the inspector and George, who meet him at the hospital.
They just put Julia in a room, while he waited out in the hallway when he sees the inspector and George.
"Sir, George"
"Murdoch, what happened?"
William with tears in his eyes, "I don't know, Julia said she wasn't feeling well and went home. She called and said she was fine. But I got home to Daniel crying and Julia passed out."
"Don't worry, she's a strong woman" said the inspector
A doctor comes out, "detective?'
"Doctor, how is she?"
"She is in awake. Her vital organs shutting down."
William begins crying, "what are you saying?"
"It doesn't look good. I would be surprised if she lives through the night"
William holds back the tears, "may, I see her"
"of, course"
William goes sees Julia, who is absolutely weak.
"William"
"Julia"
"I'm not going make it."
"Julia, don't talk like that. You will be alright"
"William please, if something happens to me, you will move on with your life. Don't mourn for me and be a great father to Daniel and I promise I'll always be with you"
William cries even more and gives her a kiss.
During the night, Julia goes into a coma, but is still living and this goes on for two weeks. Even with the headgear on again, no response.
The doctor asks William to sign the papers to end her life, since there was no way, she was going to wake.
William signs the paper and gives his final goodbyes to Julia. But stays with her until it got late and headed to Mrs. Kitchen to get Daniel.
He got to the boarding house and banged on the door, Mrs. Kitchen opened it up and saw William's face in tears, "I want to see my son"
Mrs. Kitchen nodded and let him in and led him to the nursery. Luckily, Daniel wasn't sleeping and William reached into the crib and held his son.
He sat down on the rocking chair and held his son, and fell asleep.
Mrs. Kitchen didn't mind that William fell asleep, but didn't want him to get cold, so placed a blanket over them.
The next morning, William asked Margaret to look after Daniel, while he was at work. He, and the rest of the station wore black or a mourning band on their arm.
William got to his desk, but did nothing. The inspector came in, "Murdoch, take some time off."
"I need to prepare the funeral plans"
"Sod, the plans for right now and just mourn your wife for a bit. Go home, and be with your son"
William begins crying, "I just can't believe she's gone. I can't even stand being home. All her things, pictures of her."
"I know, Murdoch. You truly loved her"
"I did and still do. But I still need to keep my promise I made to her. Your right, I'll go home and spend time with Daniel."
"Very good, Murdoch"
William gets up and grabs his hat and is about to head out the door, when the inspector asked, "what promise did you make?"
William looks at the inspector, "To move on and don't mourn for her and be a good father to Daniel. But she also said that she will always be with me"
Inspector smiled, "she sure will"
