notes: sorry to dissapoint but this isn't chapter 3! I went on a trip to Florida and on the drive back home I got a different idea for the story and it altered the plot so this is actually the new chapter 2. haha... sorry. i'll talk abt it more at the end :)

notice: This story's 'religious' instances and refernces are very loosely based on Roman Catholicism. This is NOT a critique of religion or making fun of any religion at all. The characters I use are not biblically accurate and I didn't intend them to be. I was raised Catholic so I thought that if I didn't find something offensive, there was a low probability others will. So to recap: not biblically accurate, not a criticism of religion, not meant to be offensive :)

Lucy was sure that the universe had forces more powerful than god and satan themselves. And that those forces were out to get her. They were all playing a sick cruel joke on Lucy by planting Nats- no, Etherious, into every aspect of her temporary life. She walked into her dorm afterschool to find him lounging on her couch.

"Did you kill my roommate?" She asked.

Natsu didn't even look up. "I wasn't aware you had one. And even if I was I wouldn't have."

"Ok . Then are you here to kill me?" She deadpanned.

Natsu raised an eyebrow at her statement before going back to watching television static. "Now why," he asked. "Would I do that?"

"Because you're one of the few beings who can."

The demon snorted as he sat up on the couch. "I think you severely underestimate the amount of things that can kill you while in that form."

The blonde rolled her eyes as she made her way to the kitchen. "Maybe so. Or maybe you forget the fact that we're on par with each other."

Natsu followed after Lucy. "Those are fighting words Heartfilia."

As she turned around, she was left wondering when she'd managed to get trapped between the kitchen counter and Natsu. Nonetheless, she didn't appear fazed.

"Maybe that's what I want." She whispered.

That's when someone sneezed and the two realized they weren't alone.

In the doorway, looking highly entertained, stood a brunette wearing a smirk and holding a flask.

"Oh shit sorry. Don't let me interrupt the sexual tension, I was looking forward to the show." Said the newcomer.

At that, Lucy pushed Natsu away and headed towards the girl with an outstretched hand and a tight smile.

"Sorry, that was definitely not the best first impression. I'm Lucy Heartfilia, your new roommate."

"Cana Alberona." Said the brunette. "Resident drunk, don't worry about first impressions by the way. Totally overrated."

She then turned to look at the pink haired male who was still standing awkwardly in her kitchen. "And you are?"

"I'm-"

"Just leaving." Interrupted Lucy, as she dragged him towards an open window.

When she stood right in front of it, she pulled the demon in close. "You sure you don't want to kill me?" Whispered the angel.

"Nah," Said Natsu, a smirk on his face. "You want that way too much."

Lucy mirrored his expression before shoving him, causing him to fall out the window. She turned to her new roommate, completely ignoring the surprised yelp that came from the outside.

"Is he gonna be ok?" Cana asked.

"Just peachy." Replied the blonde.

Cana only chuckled in response before she threw herself down on the couch where Natsu had previously been laying.

"So," She started, after taking a sip from her flask. "Who's the pink haired delinquent? An old flame?"

Lucy hummed. "I guess you could say that."

"Oooh complicated, the best type of romance. Any idea how he got in the room?"

"Probably through the window. He climbs things."

"We're on the 4th floor."

Lucy held a blank expression as she looked at Cana.

"He climbs things." She repeated.

"Huh. Well, if you say so." She took another sip from her flask. "Now that all the formalities are out of the way we can get into the important stuff. So, can I touch your boobs?"

The angel choked on air. Even when alive she'd never had to deal with someone so direct before.

"..w-what?" She croaked meekly.

That was when Cana held an absolutely feral grin on her face and launched herself at the girl, promptly knocking both of them down and eliciting a shriek from the 'victim.'

And everyone else in and out of the dorms ignored the screams that came from room 421 for the rest of the evening.

The week that followed was exactly as the first day had been. Chaotic. Cana had tried to introduce Lucy to her friend group but the blonde had found an excuse every single time. To be honest, Lucy had been hoping to spend the rest of her mission quitely and 'on the down low'. Like always though, things didn't seem to work out in her favor.

Natsu had been roped into Cana's group as he had befriended the guys and seemed to be having a grand time as he fought with two of them almost daily. And Cana, had decided to throw a party at their dorm at the end of the week and she was absolutely determined on getting Lucy to stay.

So Lucy was left with her absolute worst scenario: dealing with people, and dealing with other people + Natsu.

'God is a clever little shit' she thought.

All of these events contributed to why Lucy was standing on the roof of the school's main building in the middle of the night on a Thursday. It'd been a week since she'd used her wings and she was dying to fly again.

Lord knows how difficult that would be after forcibly partying with a drunk.

The blonde stood on the edge of the roof, her toes hanging off the ledge. She looked around, surveying the large campus, before she took a breath and dived off the edge.

She felt adrenaline pump through her body, the feeling of falling as addictive as the first time she'd done it.

The ground was fast approaching and yet, the blonde didn't open her wings. It wasn't until she almost face planted onto the ground that her wings shot out and all of a sudden she was flying parallel to the earth.

When she had her good bit of fun she flew back up to the roof, prepared to do it all over again.

Her toes hung over the edge of the building and she was about to dive again when-

"Brings back memories doesn't it?"

Startled, the angel actually fell off of the building before regaining her wits and flying up to see who startled her.

There she found a familiar pinkett sitting on top of a roof ventilator and wearing a shit eating grin.

A scowl found its place on Lucy's face as she looked him in the eyes.

"Damn demons." She mumbled. "I forgot that you guys sneak around."

Natsu shrugged and hopped off the ventilator. "It's in our nature, no surprise it'd be a skill."

"I guess not." She replied. "Why are you here?"

The demon laid down and put his hands behind his head. "I dunno. Same as you I guess. I wanted quiet. Then I saw you and I couldn't resist coming up here."

Lucy rolled her eyes and laid down next to him, looking up at the stars. It was quiet for a while before Natsu started talking again.

"So you still like diving?"

"Wouldn't keep doing it if I didn't like it."

"There are plenty of things you do that you don't like." He pointed out.

She scrunched her face. "Because I'm forced to. And I wouldn't be doing them if someone hadn't intervened with what I was doing before."

"I'm not sorry." He replied, and all was silent again. However, that also didn't last long because Natsu was a chatty little demon. "Was it as good as the first time?"

"Hmm?" She hummed. "Oh yeah, but nothing ever really lives up to the first time."

"I bet the end is more enjoyable though."

"Oh. I don't really remember the end." She admitted

The demon let out a bitter laugh. "I sure fucking do."

Lucy stayed silent for a moment, thinking over her words.

"I never apologized for that, did I?" Her voice so low her words were almost inaudible. Almost.

"No. I don't think you did."

"Well then I'm sorry."

Natsu turned his head to look at her. She was still looking up at the stars. She refused to meet his eye and he knew it.

"Are you apologizing because of me or are you apologizing for yourself?"

Lucy's heart stopped in her chest. She swallowed thickly and looked at him. He was still staring at her. There was no point in lying. He'd immediately know if she was, and it wasn't like she wanted to either.

"You know it's because of you." Natsu cursed and looked back at the sky. "I regret what happened to you."

"What about what happened to you Lucy? How do you not regret that at all?"

The angel let out a sigh. He wouldn't understand. No matter how many times she tried to explain it, it still wouldn't make sense to him.

" I don't know Natsu." She said, standing up. "I'm sure if we went back in time I'd do the same thing again. I'd just make sure you weren't there."

Natsu sat up as he watched the blonde angel before him stretch. His eyes memorized every little detail about her, just like the last time he'd seen her. Just as he always did.

Lucy turned back to look at him over her shoulder.

"I am sorry. You know that that's true. I'll see you at Cana's party."

And with that she took off, leaving him stranded on a roof for the second time that week. His eyes lingered from where she'd flown away before he shook his head and snapped out of his daze.

His finger traced an invisible symbol on the ground next to him and once he was done a demon appeared.

"Oh hey Natsu! I haven't seen you in a while, what's up?"

The boy just gave her a tight smile. "It's nice to see you too Lis."

The white haired girl noticed his behavior and decided that catching up was probably something they could do later.

"So, who do you want me to get to you?"

Natsu let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Zeref please. "

"Of course." And in a split second she was gone, only to be replaced by an image of the King of Hell.

"Natsu?" He spoke through the summoning symbol. "What's the matter? I'm quite busy and I have things I-"

"UghhhhHHHh." Natsu groaned as he flopped back onto the ground. "Women."

Zeref stood still before clearing his desk and folding his hands on the now empty surface.

"Oh, please do tell."

so. that's that

sorry that it's so short! but honestly i had to force that out of there. I was so stuck writing the ending of the first scene and the beginning of the second so I hope that transition was kind of ok? Idk it was like i was constipated writing wise. kinda sucked

I proof read! Yay me!

So! Major changes are: 1) Lucy has a kind of different personality as well as Natsu 2) Cana is Lucy's roommate 3) tEnSiOn

I wanna see what you guys' theories are over what happened if you have any! I think it's kind of obvious but i'm sure some people won't get it and that's all good. also! I'm making this kind of a slower burn i guess? i felt like the friendship in the original chapter 2 was kinda rushed oops

another thing! i started school again on wednesday! albeit it's online, but chapters are probably going to take a little longer to come out and i apologize for that :( hopefully ya'll will stick with me though! i want to write like 4 specific scenes but those happen later on in the story and it's killing me man.

fun fact: I had a cute guy come over to mi casa today and he laughed at my joke so i think that means we're dating now. that's how it works right?

big thanks to everyone who reviewed! it made me so stinkin happy to get email notifications, you won't even believe :)

BlueIsTheOcean: Thank you for your review! and I totally understand the frustration, in the original chapter it just made more sense to me that Lucy would click with Levy over liking books but I totally understand how overused that is. I hope you like the new chapter and what i'll do with Levy's character later on ;)

Guest: Oh my god that totally wasn't my intention. I had originally read it in a bunch of other fics and thought it was cute so I decided to add it in. English isn't actually my first language so in my head I was pronouncing it in a different accent I guess? I didn't mean for 'Natsie' to come off as 'Nazi', I read it like 'nah-tsy', or 'nasty' but switching the t and the s. To address your other comments, I wouldn't have said that the pacing was uncomfortable as much as it was awkward. I think pacing is definitely something I'm not very good at yet but I'm sure it'll get better as I continue to write :) I think the pacing in this one was a little better though and I hope you'll agree.

thank you so much for reading and i truly do hope to see you again soon :)

los quiero mucho!
