Disclaimer: I don't own Yu-Gi-Oh!
Author's Note: Wow, so I just discovered that in Ancient Egypt Yugi and Kaiba are cousins. Yep that's making it's way in here somehow. So be prepared ;)
Tea woke up the next morning, the sun was far above the horizon, and her head still laid on Kaiba's chest. She slowly lifted her head, not wanting to wake him. She was still a little tired from last night, part of her wanted to go back to sleep, but she knew she was late for work. She wondered what Mokuba would think. She quickly got up from the bed, she knew Mokuba would be worried about her, she was never late unless she called Mokuba ahead of time. She quickly looked around the room, trying to find her blazer where she left her phone at. Kaiba woke up from all the noise.
"What's wrong?" he asked as he woke up rubbing his eyes.
"I need my phone." Tea said desperately
"Here use mine." Kaiba said as he handed her his phone.
"No, I have to find mine." Tea said, as she found Kaiba's shirt lying on the floor and quickly slipped it on.
"Why?"
"Because Mokuba must really be worried about me, I never arrive late to work at least not without telling him." Tea said as she kept picking up clothes and pillows and throwing them on the bed.
"I already texted Mokuba you were with me." Kaiba said as he yawned and pulled on some sweat pants he grabbed from his dresser.
"What?" Tea asked, taken aback.
"Ya, I said it was for a work thing."
"Oh." Tea was slightly disappointed. After his unbeknownst confession last night, she really thought their relationship was growing more intimate. If Kaiba had told Mokuba about them, that would mean they were going down a serious path, even though she told him she didn't want that, a big part of her did.
"Do you want me to tell him" Kaiba asked as he moved closer to her.
"No, I mean it's up to you." Tea tried to say casually.
"I didn't tell Mokuba because I thought we were keeping it on the down low."
"Down low? Really? Tell me you did not just say that?" Tea said as she started laughing. "You are so lame?"
"Are you laughing at me?" Kaiba said as he began to tickle Tea. "I'll give you something to laugh at."
Tea laughed so hard she fell on Kaiba. They laid there on the floor for a second staring at each other, taking each other in. Tea didn't know why but the intense look in Kaiba's eye made her start feeling self conscious.
"I think I'm going to take a shower, and then head out to Kaibacorp." she said as she pulled herself up from him.
Tea left for the bathroom leaving Kaiba on the floor. Kaiba stayed on the floor for a minute. He ran a finger through his hair lightly pulling on it. He took a deep breath in, and taking a moment to process the last 24 hours. His company evaded economic failure, hiring another one of Yugi's lackey's and now he and Tea had some sort of relationship. In fact this whole week had dealt with a lot of change. Coming back to Domino City brought back a lot of memories, a lot of good ones mostly because of Mokuba and a lot of bad ones. Having to drive by the orphanage that he and Mokuba grew up in, still living in Gozaburo's house and finally how often he saw Mrs. Lucy were just a few of the reasons he didn't come back to Domino City. He managed not to see Anzu, and Tea is greatly to thank for that. He couldn't help but compare Tea and Anzu. Anzu was a lot calmer than Tea, more collected but just as warm. They did have their similarities, both Tea and Anzu could tell him off without any qualms, they both knew how to make him laugh, and they both made him crave a home life. He hated thinking this but could he be only interested in Tea because of how much she reminds him of Anzu? He sat up. He didn't want to think of that, he couldn't do that Tea. He realized he needed to see Anzu one more time.
Kaiba got up and went to his phone. Mokuba had sent him a couple of documents that needed his approval, he quickly signed them. He sent a text to Mrs. Lucy asked her if she could give Anzu a message saying he wanted to see her soon. Mrs. Lucy gracious as always told him she would relay the message. Kaiba no longer had Anzu's contact information, he made sure to give his number to Mrs. Lucy before he left for the states, he knew that if Anzu ever needed him Mrs. Lucy would reach out. What he hadn't expected was that Mrs. Lucy would never reach out. Kaiba sat on the bed very pensive. Had he stayed maybe him and Anzu would still be together, if he didn't have to have things always be his way, maybe he'd be the one about to have baby and not Wheeler. His little brother was graduating and taking over the company soon, maybe it was time he actually thought of having a different type of family. Tea didn't want to have that relationship with him. He needed to see Anzu again.
Tea came out of the shower, she saw Kaiba was holding his face in his hands and sitting on the bed. The thumbs of his hand were squeezing the bridge of his nose, while his knuckles propped his head.
She went to sit on the bed next to him. "Is everything okay?" she asked as she put a gentle hand on his shoulder.
He turned his face on his thumbs and found her warm smile and caring eyes. He gave her a half smile. "Everything is fine, it's just there's a lot of work that needs to be done at Kaibacorp. I have to look over potential promo videos, prepare a speech for Mokuba's take over, and look at the mid year financial reports. Not to mention looking over the logistics for the opening of Kaibacorp in the states."
"Right, well I can take a cab back to my place, and get some new clothes and meet you there."
"Ya, that would be very helpful, I also have an unexpected meeting that just came up, so I'll probably be a little later than you." Kaiba said as he got up from the bed and headed to the bathroom. "If Mokuba asks why I needed you just say you were helping me go over the incidentals for the last year. I've already done that so Mokuba won't notice." With that Kaiba hopped in the shower leaving Tea still sitting on the bed in a towel.
He's acting so weird thought Tea. Tea decided to just go ahead, and change into her clothes from last night and head back home. Clearly Kaiba had a lot on his mind, he is running a multi-billion dollar company, it is only logical. She hated it though when he pushed her away and became distant. She liked it better when he was tickling her, or eating Bento boxes and talking about silly things. Why couldn't he always be the big kid he truly was at heart. She called a cab and left the Kaiba mansion. She waited outside by the entrance gate instead of inside by the main door. Security saw her leave and thankfully didn't say a word. It wasn't the first time they saw her leave, but since it was Kaiba's security team she assumed that they knew only Kaiba and her were in the house. At least someone in the world knew that her and Kaiba were together. She stood there by the gate, she could feel one of the security guards eyes on her. She could just imagine how she looked right now, wet hair, clothes from last night, and standing on a street corner. Luckily for her, Kaiba's mansion was out of the way so not many people would see her in such a state, or worse think she was a prostitute. The cab came and she headed home. The morning after destroyed the beautiful glow she had concocted in her mind over hers and Kaiba's relationship.
Kaiba got out of the shower to find Tea had already left. He did tell her to go on ahead, but a part of him wanted her to stay. It didn't make sense but part of him needed her to stay, to tell him not to see Anzu to just stay with her. He brushed the thought away and checked his phone. The PR and Marketing team had send him information on the new promo video they were developing, as well as insisting her appear on some early morning talk show. He simply said he'll deal with that when he got back to the company, he has a meeting. Mrs. Lucy had texted him back said Anzu would meet him at the bakery in a half hour.
Kaiba quickly got dressed and went to the garage. Tony was there waiting for him to drive him. Kaiba sent Tony on the motorbike to Kaibacorp, he let him know he would be taking one of his other cars. Kaiba got into his black sports car and headed to Mrs. Lucy's Bake Shop.
He arrived into the bake shop and it was over flowing. He knew better than to head into through the front door, there was too much of a possibility of someone recognizing him. He really needed to keep this meeting discreet. He headed towards the back to find Anzu already waiting for him by the dumpsters.
"I knew you would come this way Seto." Anzu said. It had been five years and she still took his breath away. Her long curly blue hair had gotten longer, and her green eyes shined even more in the mid day sun. "Come on, we'll head upstairs to my room, mom gave me a strict half an hour break so let's make this quick." She said as she led him up the side stairs of the building.
Kaiba followed her. He felt there was so much he wanted to talk to her about but yet he was speechless. They entered her room and sat around the small table in the middle of it. She had some tea and chocolate all set up for them.
"Here you've always like my chocolate." She said handing him the bowl filled with them.
"Thanks." Kaiba said
"So why did you want to see me?"
"Just wanted to see how you were, it's been 5 years."
Anzu looked at him with a blank stare. Whenever she looked at him like that he could never tell what she was thinking. "It has been 5 years, you never showed up, called, heck even a smoke signal would've been nice to have from time to time."
"I could say the same about you."
"I guess we're both just too stubborn." she paused, looking at the small tea cup in her hands. She looked up from her cup directly into Kaiba's eyes and said "Seto don't change the subject, why after all this time?"
"I haven't come back to Domino City all this time because of you." he finally said. "The first year was the hardest but as time went on I guess being without you got easier. Now that I'm back all I keep thinking about is what could've been."
"Ya, ever since I heard you got back I thought that too. But, things are different now." Anzu said looking out the window.
"I know things are different. But, I see you and I look around this room and it feels like time has been frozen. I cared so much about you, not a day goes by that I don't worry about you."
"I worry about you too Seto." Anzu got up and slowly walked over to him, and sat by his side. A big part of her wanted to hold his hand, but she also knew she couldn't. Their relationship wasn't the same. "For the past five years, I have seen your face on a daily, whether it's on the morning paper, online or even on T.V. It was hard getting over you. The first year was the worst, I cried almost every single day. At some point I wished you the worst, I wished you never to be happy." Anzu kept her gaze strong on him, Kaiba wanted to look away, but the pain in her eyes forced him to take it all in. "After that year though, I forgave you, even though there really wasn't anything to forgive. I even began hoping you fell in love again. I prayed that the next time I saw you, you would have a family, a beautiful wife, and two kids just like you."
"Just like me?" Kaiba scoffed as his gaze went down to the piece of chocolate melting in his hand.
"Yes, just as arrogant, condescending and," Kaiba looked up at her again. "loving." Anzu finished with a warm smile on her face.
"What about you Anzu, did you fall in love while I was away?"
