A/N: Changed a few things in this story.
It wasn't safe, for either of them.
Theo, as usual was a fireball of rage. One text, that's all Mason got. Apparently, that's all he was worth? Scott may not have his beta. Or an old friend. His pack may be scattered, so the human has a lot to prove. He may not be supernatural, but he can be nice. Everyday. Everyday before school he stops off at Scott's house. Melissa lets him in before going to work. Her mouth smiles, but her eyes say something else. Something that he pushes to the back of his mind. The first day was full of apologies.
He'd brought a bag full of chocolates and pastries. Thursting plates of food and cans of soda in his face.
"Mase...it's Five am!" Scott would chuckle. Two weeks later and he still looked terrible. His face still bloated. Faint red scratch marks on his neck.
"Can I?..." Mason requests as he slowly lifted up the were's grey T-shirt. The were holds his breath. He lifts it. Just like he thought, there was dark purple brusing and a gash on the right side of his stomach. "I don't get it?"
"Neither do I, why diet coke this early?" Scott innocently wonders.
"No, Scott you're not healing properly. You're a super alpha? Does your mom know?"
"I don't want to worry her. Or you. Mase, you don't have to come over here everyday" Scott said shifting in bed.
"I like seeing you. Do you want plasters? Can I get you any bandages?"
"No. Can we just...lay here for a while?" Scott asks, as he switches the TV on. Mason nods. He's been dying to watch the Indian matchmaker. Getting Scott watching happy couples would flash his mind back to Kira? It could cheer him up. Scott makes space for him. Mason kicks off his trainers and slides in the quilt, arm wrapped around his shoulder while rubbing the back of the Scott's head.
He leans up to the touch with a gentle growl. "That feels good" Scott mutters.
"Good" Mason whispers as the Indian American hopefuls light up the screen. He want's most mornings to be like that, lazy mornings with Scott resting in his arms. Seriously, who was he kidding? McCall was light years out of his league! Alas with Mason's luck that comes to crashing to a halt when he makes a clumsy mistake.
One morning, Mother McCall, is leaving when he realises that she left her keys.
"Melissa, wait!" He rushes towards the counter, cringing as he hears a smash. He swears under his breath as she comes back into the room.
"Are you injured?"
"No...but your mug is? I'm sorry" Mason apologises picking up the pieces.
"Scott's father bought me that! What are you doing?" She snaps.
"I'm trying to help?...I"
"No, what are you doing here Mason? Annoying my son, every morning isn't going to make you feel better. It's not going to ease your guilt, and you should feel ashamed, every single day!
"Mel-"
"No, all you do is click your fingers and my son is at your beck and call. You were the one that told him to give Theo a chance, you put my baby in danger for absolutely NO REASON! Get out! Scott already has a best friend. So you can take your donuts and fake concern and get the hell out my house! Melissa rants angrily. Mason doesn't need to be told twice, in shock he drops the glass on the floor, the nurse is too enraged to care.
For the next week, Mason juggles his time between school, Corey and Brett. Corey is supportive as always. Buying him lunch. Saving him a seat in class. He's invited him to sinema. But he knows he can't, he'd feel like a fraud. He's doesn't feel outgoing enough to pull anyone, and he doesn't want to make a fool of himself. Brett's also invited him to study this weekend. After everything that's happened, can he be bothered to leave the house?
Heck yes, this is Brett fricking Talbot we're talking about!
He must have showered twice and changed his flannel shirt five times. Christ he was a loser, getting all hot under the collar for a guy that just felt sorry for him. "Snap out of it!" Mason whispered to himself.
"Mason, door!" His dad yells from the landing.
"THANKS!" He wasn't expecting Brett, they'd decided to meet at his place. It's sweet though. A guy as tall and handsome as him picking him up. He sprays himself with more cologne, also pops a mint in his mouth, before racing down the stairs.
"Hey you!" He opens the door with a confident grin.
"Hey!" Scott repeats the word just as confidently, though his expression tells a different story. He sniffs and winces at the cologne. "Is this a bad time?"
"Seeing you is never a bad time! Ummm...I'm sorry, about the ...your mom's glass mug" Mason begins.
"It's cool, I've got an apology to make to you as well" Scott admits with a sheepish nod as the human steps back and lets him in.
