Chapter 4

Responses:

Guest(July 26th): You will, and thanks for enjoying my stuff.

(A/N Don't own Rebels, never have, never will. Unless I go into the film business, somehow make it into Disney, get into the Star Wars division and succeed Dave Filoni, and I doubt that will ever happen.)

Sabine ran out, chasing after the Festian. Cassian was running down the corridor, past the entrance, then into a side chamber. Following him in, Sabine found Cassian embracing Jyn, their child held between them. Ahsoka arrived shortly, coughing to get their attention.

"Bandits and insurgents, a whole lot of them. They're armed with rifles, I think they've got a heavy cannon, that's what the explosion was." Cassian nodded, and whispered something to Jyn. She nodded, then stood up and placed their child in a cot.

"I'll arm the base." She marched out of the room, leaving Cassian to deal with the questioning looks. He simply chuckled and walked out. Sabine turned to Ahsoka.

"What do you reckon they have?"

"I don't know, but it's probably not good for the opposition. Let's go." Ahsoka grabbed her lightsabers and walked out the room, Sabine behind her.

LINE BREAK

"Well, this is a fine mess." Sabine crouched in a divot, courtesy of another heavy cannon. Ahsoka sat next to her, green blood running down the side of her face. The bandits had organized themselves with imperials, so they had both the numbers and the weapons. Jyn was running the base's defence systems, but there was only so much two gun turrets could do against a battalion. Ahsoka gritted herself, sprung up, deflected a few lasers with her lightsabers, and fell down again with a cry, holding one hand to her shoulder.

"They got me. Not sure how long we can hold out." Sabine felt a pang in her stomach, which quickly hardened into resolve. I won't lose you before I've even found you, Cy- Sabine blinked; She had almost referred to Ezra as Cyar'ika. I can't do that. Not until I've found him, at least. Sabine knew what her feelings for Ezra were; she wasn't stupid. She had been burying them since reuniting on Mandalore, not wanting to ruin their friendship or find that his previous crush was just that, a crush. She was sure it wasn't though, with the way he had been acting around base the days before he left. Gunfire overhead shook Sabine out of it; she would get out of this battle, get off this planet with the right co-ords, and find Ezra. Once she had her friend back, she could sort out her feelings. Sabine peeked over the edge, noticing a lull in the firing. They seemed to be excited about something, pointing upwards to a darkening shadow in the clouds. A beep on her commlink confirmed her rising suspicions. Raising it to her wrist, Sabine opened the conversation with a smile.

"What took you so long, sister?" The voice of Ketsu Onyo crackled back at her.

"You know I'll make it dramatic if I can, Sabine." Shaking her head, the Mandalorian nudged Ahsoka.

"You're gonna want to see this."

The cockpit of the Shadow Caster broke through the cloud, followed by the rest of the ship, all guns blazing. The bandits leapt for cover, the syndicate ship's auto-turret seeking out the heat signatures and firing on them. Suddenly it dropped, barely visible beneath the plateau ridge, before the telltale boom of explosives sounded and the ship soared upwards, leaving what Sabine could only assume to be the heavy cannons flaming. Ketsu crackled through again, the voice laced with amusement.

"You owe me again, 'Bine. Hera told me what your after, looking to find your… missing Jedi." Sabine could sense the tenseness in omitting 'dead', and was grateful to Ketsu for not completely shooting down her hope. "Want a ride out of here?" Sabine responded after a moment's pause.

"We need to clear up down here, but yeah, Ketsu, that'd be great."

"No problem, but the next time we're in a cantina, drinks are on you."

LINE BREAK

Reacting quickly, Ezra force-pushed himself away from the ceiling, giving himself a momentary reprieve. His shoulder was too weak to support him for long though, and he was soon rammed into the door along with Thrawn's unconscious weight. Said door opened, and Ezra fell through, managing to catch on to the mission table. Thrawn fell past him, through the other door and disappearing into wherever that part of an ISD led. Suddenly, the rattling and shaking stopped. Ezra debated force jumping up to the windows, to check it out, but settled for the old fashioned way of just using bodily strength. Really glad Sabine kept challenging me to sparring practice. The thought of his friends, specifically Sabine, on whom he had harboured a not-so-secret crush on for years, made him smile. He would probably never see them again, get to see Kanan's child grow up. (Ezra didn't want to force Hera's hand, but he sensed the extra life form, and its force signature. He knew their child was going to be a great Jedi one day, he only hoped he could have trained the kid.) Pulling himself up onto what once was the wall, now the floor, Ezra walked over to the nearest window, and did a double take on what he saw. No way.

After the mission with Hydan, and the World between Worlds, Ezra had done some digging, partially assisted by Sabine and Kanan, on the Mortis Gods. He had learned of their homeworld, a planet connected to the Force so thoroughly its very landscape could change based on the will of one of the beings. The Son and Daughter, Dark and Light respectively, clashed together, fighting over one having a majority of ground. Only their Father could balance them, a constant struggle between Ashla, Bogan, and Bendu. But looking out of this window now made no sense. The shadows were rising and falling incredibly fast, one side of the Force taking over the other every few minutes, and the land adjusting accordingly.

This couldn't be happening. Ezra had instructed the Purrgil to take the Star Destroyers somewhere safe. But this, if the myths were true, this was one of the most powerful, and most dangerous planets in the galaxy. This was Mortis.

And Ezra was stranded on it.

(A/N So, this looks… incriminating? I know I said it wouldn't be late, and technically, for Americans and anyone west of the Hebrides it isn't. But, I was looking through it before uploading, and I noticed that it was short, and I didn't want that to start happening again. So, I said to myself, 'I'll add on a bit in Ezra's POV. Remind people it's not all in Sabine's perspective, start to explain the time difference, it'll be good.' And then I procrastinated, and suddenly it's eleven at night and I still haven't uploaded. So, I apologise. Looking at the actual chapter, Sabine wrestles with her feelings, and Ketsu has shown up on Fest. She better make an appearance in one of the shows this November, because a) she's Mando, just like Sabine and Din, and b) she got really sidelined after her debut appearance. She didn't even get to use her cool ship in the final battle, and the sheer amount of ships and tech is part of what sells Star Wars for me. So, we'll be seeing a lot of Ketsu, as both a much needed pilot, as a third companion, and also to tease the hell out of Sabine. In Ezra's section, he figures out he's on Mortis and reminisces about the Ghost crew. I do believe he knew about Jacen, but was being a nice guy and letting Hera take her own time. Sorry to those who were asking for more Jyn and/or Cassian (catch the pun?) but they're kind of side characters in this. If it makes you feel better, after I inevitably go on another Rogue One rewatch spree, I'm planning one of these requesting one-shots series. AU's, random snippets, headcanons, drabbles, prompts, whatever. It will most definitely not have a defined start date or schedule, and it's on the backburner to my two main stories, unless I get inspiration and take the higher roll. I'm going to actually upload this now, so

Vaya con Queso,
