He knows that Harry will be in good hands with his godfather and is glad that they have each other.
Sirius can't sit still he is so nervous. This is the first time he has been in public since he was arrested and taken to Azkaban. Only two people have fainted when they saw him but that is the only silver lining. He has had several people yell at him saying he should be in Azkaban. He can't count how many glares he has gotten.
Even though he hasn't been officially sentenced, people are avoiding him like the plague. He is the only one that has ever escaped the wizard prison so he must be an extremely dark wizard seems to be the thought process that is going through the bystanders in the streets.
By order of the Ministry, he is escorted by Albus and Snape. At first he was going to protest Snape coming but then he thinks of all that he has done for Harry and decides that Snape can't be that bad. Harry is at his side and has been the entire time. He did protest when Harry said he was coming. He didn't want Harry there should he be found guilty somehow. But, Harry was adamant and said, "I'm coming with or without your permission. I will use my Dad's cloak if I must but I WILL be going." Sirius finally consented but said that Harry will sit with Severus in the spectator stands, as Albus will be sitting with Sirius.
They reach the Ministry and Sirius is immediately surrounded by a mix of Aurors and news reporters. The sound is deafening because so many people are talking at once.
"Mister Black. Why do you think the Ministry is having a trial after all these years?"
"Black. What do you think the outcome of the trial will be?"
"Where have you been all this time?"
"How did you escape Azkaban?"
"Is it true that you were the Potters' Secret Keeper?"
Sirius easily waves off all the reporters. The Aurors finally reach the small group and surround Sirius. One Auror grabs Harry and pulls him away from Sirius. Harry tries to shake him off but Albus cuts in. "Let go of him."
The auror shakes his head. "We can't risk having a child so close to the Defendant lest he hurt him."
"I would never hurt my Godson. Unhand him." Sirius says angrily. The moment the anger is noted in Sirius's voice by the Aurors, all of their wands are drawn and pointed at him.
Albus, in an attempt to diffuse the tension, steps in once again. "Boys, he isn't going to hurt Harry. He has a love for him and treats him as if he is his own son."
The auror that was holding onto Harry lets go and Harry uses this moment to run back to his Godfather. Sirius sees Harry running towards him and he sighs. He knew that Harry would do something like this once they were here.
"Harry. We agreed you are going to sit with Professor Snape and you said you weren't going to put up a fuss."
"Sirius I want to sit with you."
"You said you were going to sit with Severus willingly, that was why we allowed you to come. If you aren't going to do as you said you would then we will send you to Hogwarts. What do you want to do?"
Harry can't believe how Sirius is talking. He is being serious and stern. He is lecturing him. Harry looks at the ground knowing that Sirius is telling the truth, they did make an agreement and Harry wasn't keeping his side of it. "I'll sit with Professor Snape."
Sirius sees the emotions cross his Godson's face. He knows that Harry wasn't expecting him to be stern or serious but he knows that he needs to be serious and stern if he is going to raise the headstrong Gryffindor. "Hey. Pronglet, I'm not mad I'm just reminding you. I know you want to sit with me but you can't, it is against the rules that the Ministry has set and the terms of our agreement in which you agreed to so that you could come. I know you don't like it but you can't sit with me."
Harry looks at Sirius. "I know I just hate the fact that you are being tried after you were wrongly held in Azkaban for 12 years."
"I know Harry. But, we can't change what happened in the past. This will give us a chance to live the life that we should have had the entire time. Okay?"
"Yes Siri. I understand."
"Good." Sirius pulls Harry into a hug. "Go with Severus, everything will be fine. I didn't do it and there is no evidence against me."
Harry nods and walks over to Severus. Severus puts a hand on Harry's shoulder and gives it a slight squeeze. The aurors started guiding Sirius into the courtroom with Albus following behind them. Severus and Harry go through a different door that leads to the seating area for spectators. They find two seats that are directly behind where Sirius and Albus are sitting.
It isn't long until the Minister takes his seat in the front of the room. "Ladies and Gentlemen, we are here today for the trial of Sirius Orion Black. He is being accused of the murder of Peter Pettigrew and being responsible for the deaths of 13 muggles. Now that we all know what it is we are here for let's get on with this. Administer the Veritaserum."
An Auror walks over to Sirius with a vial of Veritaserum. Sirius opens his mouth as the Auror, Kingsley, removes the stopper to the vial. Kingsley sends a reassuring smile before pouring the potion into Sirius's mouth. He makes sure that Sirius swallows the contents before sending a nod towards the minister.
The Minister clears his throat before starting. "What is your full name?"
"Sirius Orion Black." Sirius responds in a dull, monotone voice. The tone of voice reminds Harry of Professor Binns when he is lecturing in class.
"Why are you here?"
"The scum, Peter Pettigrew, framed me with the death of those Muggles and himself. When in reality he blew up the street and faked his own death."
The Minister grunts, obviously not believing the words despite them being said under the influence of the Veritaserum. "I suppose it is working then."
Sirius, of course, doesn't respond. His eyes are glossed over from the effect of the truth serum he was given.
"Let's proceed with the questioning." the minister says to the occupants of the room.
An/ That's the start of the trial. What's going to happen? What is the outcome going to be? Like I said in the last note this story is coming to a close in a few chapters.
