Chapter 6

Responses:

Nightwing2013: Oof, hard luck there. That's fifth/sixth year respectively, if I'm remembering right from all those highschool!AU's and 11/12 grade is fifteen/sixteen years old. Also, woo, encouragement!

Achilles453: Thanks for confirmation about the Well of the Dark Side. I'm trying to figure out beforehand how much each knows, and as an analogy, think of D&D Ad/Disadvantage. Ezra has advantage, because he knows some stuff from Kanan. Thrawn on the other hand, has disadvantage because he doesn't know anything about even the basic force, so how could he understand literally the biggest force nexus point in the galaxy.

Pie-Files-of-the-Parenormal: Not really sure how to respond to this. Before your comment devolved into a mass of cuss words, I believe you were saying something about only finding ongoing stories. 1 It would be much appreciated if you supported said stories, I've seen too many fanfics that are brilliantly written, funny dialogue, relatable characters, amazing plot, the works- and then got discontinued/went on hiatus for years because they got barely any support. 2 If you're looking for good, finished stories, check out the stuff by Ragnardanneskjold (I think I spelled the name right) and lothcat1138. I know it seems like I'm plugging these guys at every opportunity, but they inspired me to get this story off the ground and on the interwebs.

(A/N Don't own rebels, just the plot. Which is kinda shoddy and scrounged together, not gonna lie. Really sorry that I didn't update yesterday, getting back to school took more of a toll than expected and I completely forgot about updating.)

"Thanks for this, Ketsu. Seriously. We would have been decimated if you hadn't shown up." Sabine stood a short distance away from the Shadow Caster, along with Ahsoka and Ketsu.

"Maybe. But I did, and you weren't, so no use dwelling on the past." Sabine remembered those words from when the girls ran around doing bounty work, and it appeared Ketsu's philosophy hadn't changed.

"Where d'you need a ride to, then?" Sabine snapped out of her reverie to find Ketsu waiting expectantly for an answer. "As long as it's not somewhere crazy, like Shantipole, or the Unknown Regions, we'll be fine."

"Ketsu, it's fine. We're heading to find Ezra, and we can take Ahsoka's shuttle. No need for you to pilot for us."

Ketsu raised an eyebrow. "Is that a jab at my skills or my ship?" As Sabine stuttered, the bounty hunter barked out a laugh. "Nah, it's good. Not got much work, apart from catching escaped Imp convicts for private guilds. Yo, boss-man!" Kestu hailed at Cassian, who was standing a ways off talking with Jyn, who seemed extremely put off by Ketsu interrupting them. Cassian turned with a start, chuckling when Ketsu motioned at him to come over.

"What can I do for you? He was carrying an arms/munitions bag and his rifle, Sabine noticed. Strange, I've already got all the explosives I need, and presumably, so does Ketsu.

"You're the man with co-ords to Ezra, right? Gimme. I've volunteered to pilot, but they're refusing." Cassian looked between the three, all with wildly different expressions. Ahsoka, who was wearing mild amusement, Sabine, looking exasperated, and Ketsu, who had on a stubborn expression.

"Honestly, I think you'd be better with the Shadow Caster. It's got more room, especially if you're having a fourth person."

"No, you are not." Jyn came storming up behind the group, looking furious. Sabine noted there was something glittering in the corners of her eyes. "You are staying here, where I can keep an eye on you a-and you won't die or something-"

"Hey, hey, querida, está bien, estaré bien." Cassian wrapped his arms around Jyn, and the latter buried her face in his shoulder. "It's like when I went on deep cover for the Rebellion-"

"Yeah, and I can't watch your back because you-you're gallivanting off trying to play the hero!" Jyn sobbed into his shoulder, and Sabine suddenly felt like she was intruding on something she shouldn't be intruding on. "I just want to live peacefully, Cassian. Without the threat of an Empire, or crime lords, or whatever the hell is out there." Jyn sniffed.

"Just come back to me safe, Cass. Promise me you'll do that." The Festian stroked his wife's hair, then repositioned his head so that they were kissing, gentle, slow and drawn out. Coming up for air, Jyn moved back, glancing at the rest.

"I'm sorry, I must look like an idiot." Ahsoka shook her head and smiled.

"Not at all, affection is natural. I'll make sure your man doesn't get himself seriously. Force knows he can't do it himself." Cassian shook his head in exasperated amusement as Jyn laughed and shook hands with Ahsoka, then Ketsu and Sabine. Turning back to Cassian, the pair embraced one final time before she turned and trudged back to the compound. Cassian watched her until she reached the doors, looked back, waved, and slid inside. He immediately turned to the girls, guilt all over him.

"Force, that was stupid. I should have stayed, but I couldn't have- should I have stayed? Force, she's probably mad at me-" Ahsoka placed her hand on his shoulder, slowing his unwitting pacing.

"Andor, calm down. She'll be fine without you, but you know how Jyn gets about abandonment and such." Cassian's face paled at 'abandonment' and Ahsoka quickly rectified the sentence. "You're the first person in her life that didn't leave her for good. You'll make it back, and see her and your kid again." Cassian closed his eyes and exhaled, then smiled faintly.

"Gracias, Ahsoka. Thanks for having my back." The Togruta smiled before letting go of his shoulder.

"No problem. Out of interest, what's the kid's name?"

"Lyra. We named her for Jyn's mother." His gaze became unfocused for a moment, presumably as he was reliving fond memories, before he cleared his throat and retrieved a data stick from his pocket, tossing it at Ketsu.

"You wanted the co-ords to Ezra? Here you go. Let's get in the air." Sabine felt a thrill; she was going to see Ezra. Hang on, Cyar-ika. We're coming for you.

(A/N Again, apologies are in order for missing yesterday's upload. But, also Cassian is coming with, so maybe pls don't hate review? Kidding, you guys are nice. Cassian basically wrote himself into the story, originally this chapter was going to be Ezra and Thrawn exploring Mortis, but I quickly realised I needed details from Thrawn: Alliances, so I'm going to be reading that over the next week. And don't worry, I can swear now, with absolute confidence, I won't kill off Cassian. I'm not that tropey, to have the guy go off somewhere, promise to make it back, then die along the way. I honestly hate stories that do that, it's cheap, and you see it coming a mile away. This is already late by a day and a few hours, so I'ma post this now.

Vaya con Queso,
