Checking over her figure once more as she arrived at the gate she couldn't help but sigh, it would have to do. At this stage for her pregnancy it was more of a case of wearing whatever fit than whatever she fancied wearing. Dressed once more in her black spaghetti strapped dress, one less tent like than her other maternity dress, it wasn't the best colour for the weather but it would have to do. She had briefly considered her dungaree's but it was far too hot not to mention what a pain they were when you needed to pee constantly. Shaking her thoughts from her head she walks with purpose down the garden before knocking on the door.
Opening the door the woman's face instantly fell, that was not who she expected to be on the other side. Placing one hand on her hip she sighed, glancing her up and down.
"What on earth are you doing here?" Sighing, her tone short she continues. " I bet your husband doesn't know you're here." Had she not caused enough trouble without turning up at her home?
Feeling instantly uncomfortable under her gaze she begins to second guess herself. "No, he thinks I'm at my mothers with Charlotte."
Rolling her eyes she shakes her head. "Of course." Staring at her bump for a few seconds she sighs again. "What do you want?"
"I want to chat. Surely you owe me that much Baz?" Biting the inside of her mouth she tried to keep her face neutral as the baby gave a strong kick. God this kid had perfect timing.
Rolling her eyes once more she could see she wasn't going to give up, stepping aside she allows the other woman in her home.
"If you must." Deciding not to wait for Duffy to follow she simply heads off in the direction of the kitchen, flicking the kettle on.
Following the other woman into her home she tries her best not to glance around, she felt she was intruding enough as it was. This was the last place she wanted to be but she couldn't move on without doing this. Arriving at the kitchen politely refuses Baz's offer of tea or coffee. "No, thank you. I don't intend to intrude for long."
Leaning against her kitchen units she regards her with a look. "Glad to hear it. I do have a job to go to, no thanks to you."
"Don't Baz." Moving both of her hands to her lower back she was quickly regretting this. It was like trying to get through to a spoilt teenager.
"Don't what? Speak the truth? What do you want? I've nothing left for you to take." Unable to keep her eyes on Duffy now she glances to her side, she was just rubbing it in now.
"Take? What did I take?! I didn't want any of this! I asked to you stop it but you kept pushing and pushing, what did you expect?"
"Always did like to the play the victim didn't you? You do realise Charlie isn't here? No need to put the act on for me." Where did she get off on this? Did she really think she fell for it?
Knowing instantly what she was referring to do Duffy backed away, her anger rising. "I don't know why I thought we could actually have an adult conversation. I still don't understand what I did to you to deserve all this!"
"Seriously?"
"Yes! You nearly ruined my marriage, told everyone I was anorexic then that I was pregnant not to mention the harassment and daily jibes! What have I ever done to you?"
Laughing now she couldn't believe her ignorance. "Well as far as the pregnancy announcement goes lets just say I was repaying the favour."
Feeling the colour drain from her Duffy sighed, that wasn't something that had crossed her mind for years. "Your abortion?" Even the word made her feel sick right now, without realising her hand comes to rest on her bump feeling guilty for saying the word. "I never meant to cause any harm Baz, it was out my mouth before I engaged my brain. I never intended for it to go round the department. Not that any of that helps."
"No, you're right. It doesn't. I wonder what Charlie would think if he knew it was you? Hmm?" Raising her eyebrow at the clearly stressed younger woman she couldn't help but smirk.
Growing tired of this Duffy takes a deep breath in. "Come on Baz. He's my husband and I'm about to have our second child. Do you not think that has come up already?" Seeing her face turn Duffy got in first, not needing more lies swirling around her head. "So that's why you did all of this? Because I was gobby in my youth?"
"No it's not just that. First you ruin my relationship with Charlie then you have the cheek to take him for yourself..."
Butting in she couldn't help herself, she wasn't listening to this. "Don't bother Baz. He forgave you and you still left him! I didn't even see him like that back then which you know full well as I had Peter with someone else. Don't twist the past!"
"The only one twisting the past here is you." Watching Duffy shaking her head she can't help but smirk.
"I really thought we could actually talk but clearly we can't. Goodbye Baz, I hope you find whatever is you are after. Just not with someone else's husband."
By the time she arrived back at her mothers house to pick up Charlotte there was another car sitting outside the house, damn it. Rubbing her back which was really beginning to complain she sighed as she decided to face the music.
She barely made it two steps in the house before her husband was suddenly stood before her.
"Where have you been? You told your mum you had a hospital appointment. What's going on?" Clearly panicked he couldn't help but raise his voice. Glancing her up and down he was at least a little reassured that she gave the outward appearance of being okay.
"I went to see Baz. Okay?" Trying to move past him she heads in the direction of the lounge, desperately needing a seat.
"What? No, not okay! Why?" Quickly following her his voice now louder he begins to rub his neck as she tries to comfortably sit.
"I wanted to know why. Look it doesn't matter, it was all a total waste of time." Unable to get comfortable she lets out a heavy sigh, why was this so bloody difficult?
"What did she she say? Are you okay?" Stepping forward his concern building he did wish she wouldn't take such ridiculous notions.
"She said nothing of any interest or importance. Let's just forget she ever came back. Please?" Looking up at him, her eyes pleading she didn't have the strength to calm him down.
Finally sitting next to her he places an arm around her shoulders. "Are you sure you are okay?"
"I'm fine! Just pregnant and uncomfortable." Sighing she rests her head against his chest, glad to be in his arms.
