Having reached her 8th month of pregnancy it was safe to say Charlie had got himself rather stressed at this point, Charlottes sudden appearance becoming clearer in his mind. None of this was helped by the fact that she still had another two weeks before her maternity leave started, despite the best advice given to her. Trying to distract himself from doing nothing more than sitting fretting whilst she was at work he instead decides to take the kids out for the afternoon. As soon as he mentioned swimming to Charlotte she instantly began to get beyond excited to the point he could hear his wife in his head telling him off. Maybe it was a good thing she wasn't here. Getting both kids sorted, double checking they had everything, took considerably longer than he expected. Maybe this was sign he should help Duffy out with the kids a bit more often rather than been so focussed on work? How did she do this all the time? Remembering his wife preferred a certain pool over the one closer to the house he finally drives off in that direction.

As for Duffy her mind was so focussed on work, the kids or Charlie that until she tried to move she often forgot that she was pregnant at all which probably wasn't helping Charlie's increasing nerves. Trying to go about her normal work day was becoming close to impossible with him constantly over her shoulder panicking. How dangerous did he think her job was? She spent most of doing paperwork or triage. Christ sake. At this rate he was going to give himself a stress attack or worse. As if she didn't have enough to cope with. At least today she had peace to just go about her day. Well as much as was possible this heavily pregnant.

Smiling as his daughter and stepson happily played in the shallow end of the pool he felt the calmest he'd felt in weeks, possibly months. Maybe all needed was to step back and relax for a bit? Time in the pool seemed to fly by and before he knew it was time to go back home. Trying to convince both kids to leave was never an easy task but having eventually got both out of the pool with the promise of sweets he laughed a Charlottes enthusiasm. But enthusiasm at a pool side was never a good thing, he only turned his head away for a second to check Peter was following them. Just a second but that's all it took. Charlotte, who was always off out in front, had taken the chance and decided to run to the changing room but the wet floor conspired against her and the sound of the thud as she fell shocked Charlie back round.

"Charlotte!"

The next hour seemed to pass in a blur. Despite his extensive skills in nursing he instantly forgot it all when faced with his hurt daughter in front of him. Thankfully the swimming pool staff took over letting him focus on reassuring Peter and trying to calm himself down. Having been knocked out, even just for a short time he agreed hospital was the safest and most sensible option but that came with a problem that he didn't realise until the ambulance turned up. Holby wasn't the closest hospital...broadway general was. By the time they'd arrived, despite him much preferring the sound of being in Holby, Charlotte had buried herself into his neck and was howling for her mum.

"Would you like me to call your wife?"

Glancing up he offers a half smile at the nurse in front of him as he continues to try and settle his daughter. "Please. She's at work right now. Holby city A&E department, Lisa Duffin." He knew he should phone her, stop her from totally panicking but right now the idea of leaving Charlotte was just ludicrous. Thankfully another nurse was with Peter, entertaining him in the relatives room.

As if his day wasn't bad enough the next figure to appear before him had to just take it to another level.

"Well you aren't someone I expected to see in here Charlie. What's wrong with your own department?"

His head shot up on hearing the voice and registering who it belonged to. "Baz?" Christ this is all he needed.

"The one and only." Seeing the toddlers destress all thoughts of trying to get under Charlie's skin were paused, she had her job to do first. Stepping forward she tried to get a better look at the little girl, something not made easy by her hiding into her dads shoulder. "Oh we are not happy. What happened?"

Charlie sighed before finding himself momentarily slipping into nursing mode as he repeated the details to Baz all whilst hoping his wife would get here quickly.

As for Duffy that was not the phone call she was expecting today, not even close. Trying to remain calm about it whilst this pregnant was just never going to happen, changing as quickly as she could (another not so easy task) whilst reassuring various colleagues she could drive herself she left the department as fast as possible. Of course traffic had to work against her when she hit red light after red light not to mention got stuck behind an accident. Christ could today get any worse?

Still sitting in the cubical, Charlotte now asleep on his chest, he sighed as Baz once more stood before him.

"The cut will need stitches and she has broken her arm trying to save herself but other than that she's fine."

"Duffy's going to kill me." His eyes remained on Charlotte, still asleep as he tried to work out how he was going to calm his wife down when she arrived.

"You can't watch them all the time Charlie. It was an accident." Still stood just before him she offers a smile, not that he notices.

"I know." Barley answering now he still refused to look up, his mind elsewhere.

"We all make mistakes and have lapses in judgment."

"I definitely know that."Raising his eyebrows he lets out a hollow laugh, thinking of all the mistakes he'd lately.

"Duffy included" She knew she was pushing it now but it was out of her mouth before she could stop herself.

"What do you mean by that?" His eyes had shot up, glaring at her. What the hell was her problem?

"Well I'd hardly call her telling everyone I'd had an abortion her finest moment would you?" Shifting her hands to her hips she raises one eyebrow, giving him a pointed look.

"Oh so that's what you tried to use against her last time you spoke was it? Talk about racking up the past Baz! Nice try, she told me that years ago."

Opening her mouth to answer back was as far as she got before a clearly stressed and panicked Duffy flew into the cubical.

"What on earth happened?!" Only after speaking did she notice Baz, for gods sake! "What are you doing here?"

"Treating your daughter. I'll leave Charlie to catch you up whilst I go speak to the nurse." With that she was gone, off to sort getting Charlotte plastered and her head stitched.

Duffy however was not reassured in the slightest, even more panicked seeing the sight of her daughter.

"Well? What happened?" Pressing her hands into her back she tried to ignore the ache as she focussed on the scene before her.

"She slipped at the pool. I only looked away for a second but she decided to run and fell." Clearly upset by it all still he tried to hold it together.

Before she could press for more details a little voice was heard. "Mummy?"

"I'm here darling." Carefully taking the tot into her arms, still unsure of what had happened and if she was okay she cuddled her close before Charlotte continued.

"Sweets now Daddy?"
