Chapter 3
Walking down the busy streets of Mystic Fall's proved to be quite a laugh for Klaus as he saw women swooning at him left and right trying their best to grab his attention, even those that wore wedding bands. He scoffed at the irony of this, of how these women paraded themselves around because their own men had not given them the proper satisfaction. It was so funny yet pitiful and pathetic at the same time.
He had without a doubt enjoyed his last hunt the other night as it had been the most satisfying by far. The reason why was because he had found and done away with the great great grand niece of Tatiana Petrova. The woman who had destroyed him, the very person who was responsible for him being who he was today.
The first time he had met Tatiana was when he was 19 years old. She had moved to his homeland one day with her family, which had been quite the drama as both their mothers had known each other a long time ago and weren't exactly on the best of terms.
Klaus had introduced himself to Tatiana whom had given him the cold shoulder at the time, which had confused him as he couldn't understand what he had done wrong. But that was immediately forgotten when he saw...her.
Isabeta Petrova
Klaus had thought Tatiana was pretty, but she was absolutely nothing in comparison to her sister. Infact Klaus had almost fallen to his knees because he was sure that Isabeta was an angel. She had a heart shaped face, beautiful doe like deep brown eyes that he could have gotten lost in, a smile that would weaken the hardest of hearts, long brown wavy hair and a body to die for.
Yes Klaus had been completely bewitched by the youngest Petrova indeed.
He had tried to introduce himself to the stunning beauty, but had made a fool out of himself by tripping over his own feet and landing face first on the ground. Suffice to say that Klaus had been beyond embarrassed as half the village along with Tatiana, Gustavo (her father) and Beth Petrova (her mother) had laughed at him, while Isabeta had a sorrowful expression on her face.
That night Klaus had hid himself away in the caves he had found as a child, feeling completely humiliated.
Three days after that Klaus had taken a walk through the woods when he'd heard the sound of someone sobbing. Out of curiosity he'd gone to investigate and to his surprise he had found Isabeta curled up against a tree crying. The very sight had broken his heart as he never wanted to see his angel weep.
He had approached the young woman and asked her if she was ok, only when he did Klaus had gotten a nasty surprise when he saw Isabeta's face was covered in bruises. He had demanded to know what had happened to her, but Isabeta had been reluctant at telling him as she'd been pretty shook up at the time. Though Klaus had been determined to find out who or what had harmed his angel he did all he could to comfort Isabeta and vowed to himself that he would protect her from whomever had hurt her and cause the one responsible immense pain.
From that day forth Klaus and Isabeta became extremely close, he had become her protector/best friend/secret love as she had become his everything. They had spent each hour of everyday together talking, laughing, playing silly games and holding one another as if each day would be their last.
Klaus had told her of his brothers Elijah, Finn, Kol and his sister Rebekah, how they had all gotten married and left home. He'd also told her how his mother was expecting another child soon, which Isabeta was most ecstatic for him about.
Isabeta had eventually told him of what happened the night he had found her in the forest. As it turned out it had been Silas, Tatiana's ex fiancé, who had given Isabeta the bruises on her face because apparently he had travelled to the village in search of Tatiana but instead found Isabeta. He had confronted her while she was fetching some water from the lake and accused her of being the one responsible for him and Tatiana being separated.
Although Isabeta had tried to talk sense into the man it was no use because every word that came from her mouth had only enraged Silas more. She explained how he had tried to grab her but she'd hit him over the head with her bucket and made a run for it, but he'd eventually caught up and forcefully grabbed her hair before smacking her in the face, over and over again until he was sure that she knew to stay out of his way.
Now had Silas not have left again that day he would have considered himself a dead man because as soon as Klaus had learned of the truth he was out for blood. Isabeta had begged him not to say a word to her family or anyone else for that matter because she was terrified that it would only have caused more trouble. Klaus had gently explained to her that she needed to come forward so Silas could be hunted down and given the punishment he deserved, but again Isabeta was too scared to do so as she knew what Silas was capable of and knew that the lives of the people she loved would be placed on the line.
Klaus had not been scared of this though because he vowed that if Silas ever stepped foot in the village again he would make him pay for what he done to his Isabeta.
Personally!
Esther and Mikael had also grown quite fond of Isabeta over the time she and Klaus had spent together. Isabeta had bonded with Esther over the pregnancy as she helped keep mother Mikaelson off her feet, offered to do Esther's daily chores and even sang to the newest Mikaelson every night.
It hadn't been long before Klaus had admitted his love for Isabeta after they had both taken a midnight swim in the lake, which had been the most incredible night for the lovers as they had both presented their hearts to each other. Their kisses had been passionate and needy as they had both craved the feeling since the moment they had met.
Their love was strong and beautiful to everyone who crossed the pair, it was like nothing anyone had ever witnessed. Klaus was so gentle, kind and loving to the young Petrova woman that it drove a certain other Petrova sister mad with jealously.
Although there had been times when Tatiana had tried to steal Klaus's attention away from her sister Klaus had made it clear to her every time that he was not interested and to leave him alone. This had made Tatiana angry as she'd wanted Klaus for herself and had been determined to prove it by confronting her little sister on the matter. Once she had gotten Isabeta alone Tatiana had stated that Klaus belonged to her in every way and warned Isabeta that if she did not stay away she would pay the consequences.
Of coarse having felt completely shocked by her sisters out burst Isabeta had told Klaus everything, and though he was not surprised by Tatiana's behaviour Klaus's blood had boiled at the fact that Tatiana had actually threatened her own sister and dared to stake claim on him. There was no way in heaven or hell that he would ever have become that nasty strumpet's puppet when he saw how she threw herself around other men like the desperately needy little wench she was.
Having had enough of the woman Klaus decided to confront Tatiana about her coldness towards Isabeta and demanded to know what Tatiana's problem was, though what he got instead was completely unexpected and unwanted at the same time as Tatiana had literally threw herself into his arms and hungrily kissed him.
Klaus hadn't hesitated in pushing her off him and asked what on earth she was doing. She had explained to him how she couldn't be seen with him in public because there families did not get on and she refused to choose sides. She told him how she wanted to be with him, but not under their family's watchful eyes. Klaus hadn't been sure if Tatiana had taken a bang to the head at the time, but the one thing he did know was that the Petrova woman was without a doubt insane.
He had made clear once and for all that he had no interest in the annoying Petrova woman whatsoever and that if she ever dared to threaten Isabeta or even plague his loves mind with such treacherous lies again he would make her life a living hell.
Matters had only gotten worse from there though as Silas having the guts he did had actually dared to return to the village, but was confronted by the Petrova family along with Klaus whom had beaten Silas to a severely pulp before he was stopped by Gustavo. Tatiana had been all to glad to see her ex, but the same could not be said for the rest of them. Isabeta with Klaus's support had worked up the courage to finally tell her mother and father what Silas had done to her and it was safe to say that Gustavo and Beth were murderous of the man for daring to lay a hand on their daughter. They had questioned Isabeta of what had happened to her face, but she had refused to tell them.
Tatiana had refused to believe a word of it because she had been too far gone in denial and called her sister a liar. That was when Isabeta lost all rational thought and told Silas the real reason why he and Tatiana had broken apart. It had turned out that Tatiana had discovered she was pregnant with Silas's child and had made up the excuse to leave her fiancé to buy herself time to abort the poor child.
Shocked and outraged by Isabeta's words Silas had demanded to know from Tatiana herself if it was true. Of coarse Tatiana had no words to speak, which had left Silas in complete turmoil at the fact that the woman who he thought loved him had ridden the world of their own child. He had told Tatiana he never wanted to see her cruel selfish cold hearted self again before he storming away from the village.
From then on Silas was neither seen nor spoken of in the village again. Word had spread about Tatiana's indiscretions, which had led her to become a disgrace to her family, an outsider to the village and had nothing but a damaged reputation to her name.
Life was perfect for Isabeta and Klaus as their love was just as strong as ever before. Infact life had been so perfect that Klaus had proposed to Isabeta during a beautiful sunset and to his great joy she had said yes without hesitation.
They had planned to have a small wedding with their family and friends on a summer's night under the full moon as they thought it to be more magical and romantic that way. And besides it had been under a full moon that Klaus and Isabeta had first proclaimed their love.
But their happiness was soon short lived.
On the night before Klaus's twentieth birthday Klaus, Esther, Mikael and Elijah (whom had returned home for a visit) were discussing names for the newest Mikaelson when they heard the echo of blood curdling screams come from the village. The three had rushed out of their home to find out what the commotion was, only they hadn't anticipated the horror that awaited them.
Flashback
10th century Mystic Fall's
It was awful the entire scenery was unlike any nightmare Klaus himself had ever witnessed. The smell of ash reached his nose as he saw the homes around him being torched by men on horses, men, women and children were running left right and centre screaming in terror as family and friends began to drop down dead from the arrows that were being shot by people with slingshots.
It was terror, pure and true.
"Niklaus! Elijah! Get your mother to safety!" Mikael yelled placing his wife in his children's arms.
"Mikael what are you doing?" Esther asked shouting over the screams.
"Doing my duty" Mikael boldly said yanking his sword from its holster.
"No! No you can't!" Esther yelled in horror.
"Father you'll killed on your own, let us come with you" Elijah desperately said not wanting to loose his only father.
"Absolutely not, you take your mother to the caves and protect one another until I return" Mikael told them.
"Mikael please" Esther pleaded with tears running down her cheeks.
"I love you" Mikael softly said giving his wife a desperate kiss before unwillingly parting from her side.
"Mikael!" Esther screamed as she watched her husband run off into the fight.
Watching with utter heartache as their mother struggled against them to flee after their father Klaus and Elijah held her back as they began running into the deep forest doing as their father wished of them.
But not a moment too soon a wave of horror hit Klaus right in the face as he came to a sudden halt looking back over his shoulder toward the burning village where his heart still remained.
"Isabeta" Klaus spoke with pain.
He'd forgotten all about her, with the shock of what was going on he'd let the woman he love slip from his mind.
"Niklaus what's wrong? Why have you stopped?" Elijah asked.
"Go on without me" Klaus said.
"What?" Elijah asked staring at his brother in confusion.
"Take mother and get to the cave" Klaus told him.
"My son what are you doing?" Esther asked with her eyes now red from tears.
"I have to go back" Klaus said backing away from them.
"No!"
"Brother you can't!" Elijah shouted.
"I have to, Isabeta's still there! I won't leave her!" Klaus yelled as he ran back toward the village desperate to find his love praying with all his might that she was okay.
Yanking out his sword some of the men that came at him had tried to take him by surprise, but Klaus was entirely too quick for them an easily got the upper hand. He stabbed three of them in their chests and another two he'd beheaded. He was a man on a mission, nothing was about to get in the way of him finding Isabeta. Not when she needed him.
"Help us! Someone please help!" screamed out a female voice.
That's when Klaus came to a stop as he saw the Petrova household going up in flames with Gustavo on the outside yelling toward the house whilst struggling against two men who had him on his knees and arms pinned behind his back.
"AAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!" screamed a voice from inside the burning house.
"NOOOOOOOO! BEEEEETH!" cried out Gustavo with all his might as he watched with endless tears as the flames consumed his home with his wife on the inside.
"No! NO! ISABETA!" Klaus yelled out for his love as he began running toward the burning wreckage.
'Not like this' he thought. 'NOT. LIKE. THIS'.
As the men who held Gustavo went to stop him he uncaringly sliced ones throat open while jabbing the other in the heart.
"Isabeta!" Klaus cried out again.
"Niklaus! She is not in there!" shouted Gustavo as Mikael who had just killed one of the men on horses turned in time to see what his son was about to do.
"Where is she?" Klaus asked Isabeta's father who now looked just about defeated and lost. "Gustavo please, where is Isabeta?" he asked again giving the man a shake as Klaus was now more desperate than ever to find the woman he loved.
"They took her" Gustavo mumbled with his eyes not once leaving the house where he had just lost his beloved.
"Who? Who took her? And where?" Klaus pleaded of him.
"I don't know" and with that Gustavo spoke no more, his mind and heart were lost along with his wife.
Klaus then releasing the man jumped up to grab one of the enemies from behind yanking the mans head back as Klaus placed his sword to the bastards neck.
"Isabeta Petrova, where is she!" Klaus growled at the man who just seemed to laugh at him. "Talk!" Klaus shouted.
"And what will do if I don't? Kill me? I think not" the man said.
"Oh but you thought wrong" Klaus hissed as took his sword away from the mans neck and drove it through his back, not enough to kill him but just enough to prove a point.
"AAAAAAAHHHH!" cried out the man arching in agony.
"Tell me where Isabeta Petrova is!" Klaus yelled in the mans face.
"I don't know" whimpered the man.
At these words Klaus twisted the sword another few inches into the mans chest causing him to cry out once more.
"YOU LIE! TELL ME WHERE SHE IS!" Klaus yelled as he was getting more and more murderous by the minute, seconds were wasting away and Isabeta's life hung in the balance.
"The…woman…took her" the man choked out.
"What woman?" Klaus asked but again the man didn't answer and so he gave the sword another swift twist.
"AAAAAHHHH!" cried the man.
"What woman!" Klaus shouted.
"The one…who calls…herself…" the man trailed off.
"Who?" Klaus pressed on but to his dissatisfaction the man had gone limp and become unresponsive. "WHO TOOK HER!" Klaus bellowed out violently shaking the man.
"Niklaus stop! He's dead" shouted Mikael as he yanked his son away allowing the corpse to drop to the ground.
"No I have to find her! Let me go!" cried out Klaus as he struggled in vain against his father's arms.
"My son we will find Isabeta, I promise you this. We will find her" Mikael assured his son who had now calmed down a little as he slowly released him.
"Father, I cannot lose her" Klaus vulnerably spoke as tears shone in his eyes.
If anything whatsoever happened to Isabeta Klaus would never forgive himself for not being there to save her.
"You won't, Isabeta is strong and she wouldn't give up without a….
"SIR! MR MIKAELSON!" called out a voice from the carnage as both Mikaelson's turned to see the priest father McGuire running their way. "Mr Mikaelson you must come at once" the old man spoke with urgency.
"What is it father?" asked Mikael.
"I know who is responsible for this, it was Tatiana Petrova" father McGuire said.
Tatia?
She had done this? But why?
"Tatiana?" Mikael questioned in disbelief.
"Yes, I saw her start the blaze but she has taken young Isabeta captive" father McGuire spoke in distress.
No sooner was that said Klaus immediately grabbed the priest by the collar of his dress robes.
"You saw them? Where? Where did she take her?" Klaus desperately questioned the man.
"Niklaus" spoke Mikael trying to ease him off the poor priest.
"Where Tatiana is taking her I'm not sure, but I saw her drag Isabeta off into the forest not a moment ago" father McGuire said.
"Which way?" Klaus asked as the priest then pointed to the west side of the woods before Klaus dropped his hold on the man and shot off in the direction Tatia had taken his beloved.
He ran as fast as he possibly could praying to whoever was listening that Isabeta was unharmed, because if not Klaus vowed to take Tatia's head before the next sunrise. Whether or not she was his loves sister he would happily execute the bitch if it meant that Isabeta lived.
"ISABETA!" Klaus yelled out hearing his own voice echo through the darkened woods as he called out desperately to his love. "ISABETA!" he yelled again yearning for any type of response.
"KLLLLLAAAAUUUS!" screamed a voice that stopped Klaus in his tracks.
Could it be?
"ISABTEA!" he yelled rotating his body in all sorts of directions trying to figure out which way the voice had come from. "WHERE ARE YOU?" Klaus called out again.
"KLLLLAAAUUS! HEEEELLLLPP!" her voice cried out to him.
Klaus not wasting another second bolted after his loves murderous cries with fear squeezing his heart the whole time with its horrible sharp claws.
"ISABETA!" Klaus called out as he continued to hear her screams echo throughout the forest, her voice becoming much louder the closer he drew.
It wasn't long before he was right on top of the source, but just then as Klaus cut through a tree line he felt his whole body freeze in place.
There in the middle of an open clearing standing on top of a mountain of what looked like wood was his Isabeta whom was tied to a stake.
"Isabeta!" Klaus shouted going to run to his love's rescue, only his efforts were short lived.
"Klaus look out! Behind you!" he heard Isabeta shout.
But before he could react Klaus suddenly found himself being grabbed as he turned to see two men on either side of him restraining his arms.
"Let go of me! You bastard's release me!" Klaus yelled struggling against his captors.
But just then he heard the sound of laughter and looked round to see the bitch herself manifest from out of the shadows.
"Why isn't this a touching scene, it almost makes me want to cry" Tatiana mocked in her own amusement.
Klaus wanting nothing than to tare the harlot's head off continued to struggle for freedom.
"Oh come now Niklaus don't pout, haven't you missed me?" asked Tatiana as she came to stand infront of him.
"How can anyone miss a thorn in their side? Especially a backstabbing trollop like you who gets pleasure out of destroying innocent lives" Klaus spat out.
"Nobody in this world is innocent Niklaus, we are all the same. Weak, sentimental treacherous snakes" Tatiana hissed.
"Well that just about sums you up, but what about the rest of us?" Klaus smirked.
That's when Klaus felt her hand connect with his face, resulting in a sharp pain that shot straight to his eyeballs.
"Leave him alone! Tatiana I beg of you, leave him be!" shouted Isabelle struggling against the ropes that bound her as she watched her sister hit Klaus.
"How sweet, my dear sister coming to her beloved's frail rescue once more" Tatiana carelessly spoke.
"Let her go you she devil, or I swear I will end you where you stand!" Klaus growled at her.
"No need for such threats Niklaus, I shall release your snowy bride in due time" Tatiana smirked before nodding her head to an unknown presence and just then a hooded figure emerged from the dark and stood between the two lovers watchful eyes.
The mysterious new comer then pulled down their hood only for Isabelle's to widen in utter shock for standing infront of her was the one person she and her family had thought to be lost long ago.
"Malachai" she gasped out.
As soon as Isabeta had uttered the familiar name Klaus looked upon the man with shock, he knew exactly who this person was and what he meant to his love given that Isabeta had told him many stories of the man that now stood before them.
"Hello sister" smiled Malachai sinisterly.
Yes Malachai Petrova, Tatiana and Isabeta's older brother.
"B-b-but you were dead, we thought you lost" Isabeta sobbed not being able to believe that she was staring at the brother she'd broken her heart weeping over for many years.
"Its what I wanted you to think" said Malachai.
"But Tatiana said that…
"She said what? That she saw me be pushed over a quarry to my bloody death at the hands of Alistair?" Malachai asked her tauntingly.
Alistair Saltzman had been one of Isabeta's greatest friends growing up, but after he was accused of murdering Malachai he had been sentenced to death.
"So it was all a lie? You both planned this from the beginning" said Isabeta.
"Well in all honesty it was mostly Malachai who did the planning, I simply played a part" Tatiana smirked.
"Why? Why would do this? Why would have mother, father and I believe such a lie?" Isabeta cried.
"Because I could. Because I wanted my revenge. Because I wanted those who failed me in an hour of need to suffer the same pain I have had to endure since the moment my Jane Ann was taken from me" Malachai hissed at her.
From what Klaus understood Jane Ann Deveraux was the woman who Malachai had fallen madly in love with at the age of seventeen. They had been each other's sweethearts, but sadly Jane Ann had been brutally murdered at the stake because someone had cruelly passed word round that she was a witch.
"Malachai we tried to help her, we did" Isabeta said.
"You didn't try hard enough! You, mother and father stood ideally by as the love of my life was burned alive before my eyes. You aloud her to die!" Malachai yelled pointing his hand accusingly at Isabeta.
"No! That is not true! I loved Jane Ann she was as much family to me as my own, and I promise you brother I did everything I could prevent her demise. I swear this to you" Isabelle pleaded.
"Your words mean nothing, they do not bring back what I have lost" Malachai spoke with anguish.
"Please Malachai, please" Isabeta sobbed shaking her head.
"I vowed that day that I would avenge her life by punishing those who were undeserving of their own, our mother and father included" Malachai insanely spoke.
And just then Klaus saw whom he suspected to be another follower of Tatiana's walk out of the tree line with a torch in hand, but as the man passed this to Tatiana who looked smugly at him it suddenly dawned on Klaus what was about to take place here as his eyes travelled from the torch to where his love was standing.
"No! Nooo! You said you'd release her!" Klaus bellowed out as he began to frantically struggle against his restrainers.
"Yes well I suppose I lied" Tatiana laughed at him with her black-hearted self.
"I will kill you! I swear I will rip you both to pieces!" Klaus growled at them.
"Not before the grand finale you won't" Tatiana assured him.
"Don't do this! Please! I beg you! Take me instead, but leave her be!" Klaus pleaded with tears shining in his eyes as he saw Malachai approach him.
"Its funny, those were the exact words I spoke when I was forced to watch my Jane Ann be tortured to death. I pleaded to the gods above that someone or something would save the woman I love, but like the greatest hard ship my prayers had gone unheard.
I had not only lost the one person I ever truly loved that day, I lost my entire meaning of life. Nothing mattered to me anymore, not my family, not my friends. None" Malachai spoke with no emotion in his voice as he turned his head over his shoulder to nod at Tatiana who took that as her queue.
"You must forgive me for what I must do, but if I must suffer this endless pain…I will not suffer alone" Malachai said before both he and Tatiana approached their sister.
"No! Noooo! Isabeta!" Klaus yelled out struggling like hell as the two men holding him had then forced to his knees.
"It is a shame it had to be this way, but on the bright side you shall be joining our mother in a sweet sleep. That is if you make it to the place of worship, do give my regards to Alistair on your journey I'm sure he can't wait to see you" Tatiana viciously spoke.
Weeping with fear all Isabeta could do at that moment was stare into the eyes of her beloved knowing that this would be the last time she'd ever see his beautiful self again. She did not care what happened to her, Isabeta just prayed that Klaus would get out of this alive so he could go on to lead a safe and humble life with his family. This was her last dying wish.
"I love you Niklaus Mikaelson, I have loved you since the moment we first met and I shall always love you my eternal heart" Isabeta passionately spoke through her tears.
"And I love you Isabeta Petrova, I will love you till the very end of existence. We will be together again, I promise you this" Klaus sobbed in despair.
"Goodbye my darling" Isabeta whispered into the wind.
And as if on queue Tatiana with her soulless self threw the torch upon the wood sealing Isabeta's fate forever more.
"NOOOOOOOO! NOOOOOO! ISAAABETTTAAAA!" Klaus bellowed struggling in utter vain as he watched the flames begin to lick and engulf his beloved.
End of Flashback
Wincing at the mere memory that had haunted him for over eight hundred years Klaus felt a tear escape the corner of his eye.
His sweet Isabeta
It did not seem like yesterday that she was in his arms and they were as happy as could be, but the fates had cruelly snatched his angel away and spat in his face whilst doing so.
After he'd watched Isabeta's body turn to ash something in Klaus had seemed to break free from its restraints, but back then he hadn't a clue what had occurred that night because it was only the next morning that he'd woken up stark naked covered head to toe in blood surrounded by a bilious sight of the shredded mangled body parts of one Tatiana and Malachai Petrova.
Klaus had no idea how he'd done it at the time, but the one thing that continued to bring him pleasure was the fact that he'd ended the lives of the two people who had murdered his Isabeta.
During 1341 Klaus made a trip to France on the count of business, but had gotten the shock of his life when he'd come face to face with one of Tatiana's ancestors. The girl's name was Yvonne Petrova and like her tart of a great ancestor she was one for flaunting herself around. He'd dug up information on the young woman and found out that Yvonne owned a reputation of marrying rich gentlemen for everything they had before leaving them with not a penny to their name. Klaus at that point had decided to take matters into his own hands by reeling the bitch in before giving her a slow agonizing death.
After that Klaus had begun living in hopes that if he'd managed to miraculously come across one of Tatiana's ancestors then surely…just perhaps Isabeta's wouldn't be far behind. Since then he'd made it his over all life's mission to find any trace of his loves crests, but so far he'd had no luck much to his eternal pain. Though whilst he kept up his search in the mean time he'd managed to keep himself entertained by punishing every descendant of Tatiana and Malachai's he ever came upon over time.
He had to have something to believe in whilst living out his immortal life and Klaus believed in only one thing, that he would one day be reunited with his love and when that day finally came he would never allow her to slip away from him again.
This much he vowed.
Author's note: Poor Klaus, don't you just hate Tatiana? Lets hope he can find his salvation sooner rather than later.
You're probably questioning how Tatiana's descendants came about if she'd killed her child and mother. Well just hang in there because all secrets shall be revealed in time.
Sorry I'm so late updating this one its been time I know but I'm back on track now I promise.
