Chapter One
Midnight didn't care about really anything. He was old, and there was no hope for him. As a NightWing, he was useless and bulky. After he had worked in the Llama attack, he was old and tired. Mostly all Midnight did was sleep in his hammock and read the daily scroll.
Mostly. Besides that, the way he earned money and helped his family was by renting out rooms of his home, and then using the scales he got he would buy food and the daily scroll.
His family didn't really even want to take care of him, because he was old and grouchy and cursed at everyone who went by him. But one day, he got some interesting news in the scroll.
"What's this?" Midnight growled, adjusting his glasses so that they looked down onto the scroll. "Moonlight has a daughter named Dream with Summer. WHAT?! My daughter had a dragonet with a DAYWING?!" Midnight spat, his glasses almost falling off. This was unspeakable. Moonlight was in TERRIBLE danger.
Midnight grumbled to himself, then fell asleep.
"Hello?" Midnight growled into the darkness. He was sitting in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of darkness, with nobody anywhere. "Where am I?" Midnight whispered, scared for once in his life. He started moving his claws, only to find himself just sitting in nowhere doing nothing. Suddenly, his vision began to blur, and it morphed into a scene. "Oh, no," he mumbled. "No, no, no, no, no."
Midnight was staring at the Smallest Village. He could see the village perfectly, it was crystal clear. He saw a familiar dark silver dragon with dark eyes. "Moonlight," he whispered. Then he peered in closer, and noticed her embracing a bright orange and yellow dragon. "That must be Summer," he growled. A young dragonet was beside them, jumping up and down. Suddenly a dark shape blocked his vision, and it repeated what he saw in the mirror.
"That's... me! What am I doing?" Midnight wondered. The Midnight in the scene circled the couple and split them apart physically. The next thing he saw was bloodshed and war, many dragons dead, everyone in pain, dead or dying.
"What is this?" Midnight whimpered, his eyes darting around the moaning dragons, and he realized what was happening. "If I split apart Summer and Moonlight... The Day and Nightwings will go to war," he understood.
Suddenly a bright fear overtook him, and he spoke something never heard before.
"A dragonet that's tied between day and night, a dragonet bubbly and kind. A dragonet will be there, for a grandpa of power, and help him help the world. An old dragon with the name when the moon is high in the sky, has power more than anyone will imagine, has the only ability to stop the global war. The dragonet has power that has parts of each time space, and won't ever kill a single soul. The two dragons must stop the power of the Ice, and to do that they must respect one another."
Midnight gulped and tried to close his eyes that were teeming with tears. His world tipped over and he woke up, sweating in his bed. "I won't do anything. I'm old, and I'm about to die anyway," he grumbled, but his face didn't show confidence. It was that moment that he heard a knock on the door.
Chapter 2
Midnight grasped the handle and swung it open. He was facing the dragonet in his dreams. "Dream?" he whispered. Dream nodded and said, "Hey, gramps." "Don't call me that," Midnight scowled. "My name is Midnight," he declared firmly. Dream shrugged and let herself in. "Mom told me you'd let me stay," she informed Midnight. "Of course she did," replied Midnight firmly. "So you will?" asked Dream. "Will what?" Midnight asked. Dream rolled her eyes and giggled. "Let me stay! Will you let me stay?" she clarified. Midnight shrugged and sighed at the same time. "Why do you need to stay?" he asked, narrowing his eyes.
"Well, Summer and Moonlight said that they were going on the run from you, because she was worried you would hurt their relationship," Dream explained. Midnight sighed, thinking of the vision in his dream. "I won't do that," he confirmed, and Dream didn't seem surprised. "I told them that, but they're headed to Smallest Village," Dream told him. Midnight nodded. He winced and Dream noticed. "What's wrong?" Dream asked, noticing a change.
"I had a dream... a vision," Midnight started, then stopped, realizing he was talking to a dragonet. But this was the dragonet that would help him save the world. But that was a silly prophecy! Midnight grasped his head, tired of the argument going on in his head. "A vision?" Dream's eyes widened. "You mean a prophecy?" she exclaimed. Midnight nodded sulkily. "What did it say?" Dream asked. Midnight scowled. "It said the NightWings and DayWings would fight if we didn't stop the power of the ice."
Dream pondered over this for a second. "It probably means the Ice Queen, Queen Blizzard," she told him, and Midnight nodded. "I've heard she's outlawed hybrids," he mumbled. "No, she's actually a hybrid. She has a different motive," Dream argued. Midnight narrowed his eyes. "Let's go," he growled. "Go where?" Dream asked. Midnight knew he was being spontaneous, but he didn't care. He said, "To Blizzard's Fortress."
