Chapter 22

Eliza POV

After the party was over, Lexi and I were in the living room cleaning up while Jax was out in the driveway saying bye to everyone. "So, they bought you a house?" Lexi asked me.

"Yeah. It's their way of telling me that Jax doesn't need me here to help him." I said.

Lexi stopped what she was doing and turned towards me. "You know E, they might have a point. I mean, Jax is a grown man. I'm pretty sure that he can take care of himself and Abel." Lexi said. Lexi was siding with my parents. What was going on?

I had this strange feeling that my entire family was conspiring against me. But maybe they were all right. And besides it's not like I would be living far…. "Maybe you and Ma are right. And besides… I won't be far." I said. Lexi couldn't help but laugh.

Once we were done cleaning, Jax and I were sitting in the living room drinking a beer. "Okay, so Ma and Clay bought me a house." I blurted out.

"Seriously?" Jax asked and I nodded.

"Yeah. Clay said that I keep putting my life on hold for this family and that it's time that the family did something for me… or something like that." I said finishing my beer.

"Wow. That's…" Jax started.

"Fatherly?" I finished for him.

"Yeah. It's completely unlike him." Jax said.

I went to the kitchen and got some more beers. "Yeah I know. So, I guess what I need to know is if you're okay with Ope and I moving?" I asked him.

He turned and looked at me while lighting a joint. "E, I just want you to be happy. If that means moving, getting married and having a family then I want that for you." Jax said. It was exactly what I needed to hear. I needed to hear that he was going to be okay. "And besides, Lexi is gonna stay and help out."

I rolled my eyes at him. "Just promise me something…." He nodded. "Don't hurt her. She's been through so much I don't want to see her get hurt anymore." I told him. I knew what my brother was like. But I also knew what he could be like when he really loved someone.

"E, I barely know the girl. But what I do know is that I feel this strong pull towards her. I don't know E. I can't explain it." Jax said. I just sat there and shook my head.

Jax POV

The next morning, I woke up to Abel's crying. When I walked into the nursery, Lexi was standing over the changing table changing him. I leaned against the doorframe and watched her. It was incredible. Here she was taking care of a kid that wasn't even hers. Like I told Eliza, there was something about Lexi… I couldn't put my finger on it but I felt a connection to her.

Eliza POV

When I got to Ma's house that morning, I was surprised that she was just waking up. Normally, she'd have been up and probably called Jax several times checking on Abel. "Morning Ma." I said walking into her kitchen and pouring myself a cup of coffee.

"Morning baby. Did you talk to Ope about the house?" She asked me.

I nodded. "Yeah. I talked to him and Jax both. They both think that it's a good idea." I said, grabbing my coffee and walking over to the kitchen island and sitting with mom. "Jax agreed with Clay. Said that I keep putting my life on hold for this family, that its time that the family did something for me." I said, quoting Clay.

Ma nodded. "Their right ya know." Ma said. I rolled my eyes. "I'm serious. Think about it. Clay didn't give you a choice what you were going to go to college for. You were destined to be the Club's princess. As soon as you come home and finally start to have a life with Ope, Jax finds out he's gonna be a dad and you helped him get ready for that and you made sure that he knew that he wasn't alone in this. Baby, their right. You've been putting your life on hold for everybody else. It's time that you started living your life."

Maybe Ma was right. "On a side note… I may have done something the other night." I said, earning myself a glare from Ma.

"What'd you do?" She asked.

"I may have had Tara kidnapped to question her." I said.

"About…"

"The fact that the shithead that beat the crap out of Lexi is the brother of Tara's ex-fiancé." I told her.

"You serious?" She asked and I nodded. "Wow. I didn't see that coming. Jax know?" Even though Ma didn't like Tara, she knew how much Jax cared for her.

Ma and I spent the day shopping for furniture for my new house. It was a five-bedroom house. I guess that was Ma's way of saying that she wanted me to have a couple of kids. Ma had me set up one of the rooms for Abel in case she couldn't watch him and Jax needed me to. I didn't have a problem with it and I knew that Opie wouldn't either. By the end of the day we'd furnished the entire house. Ma had talked to Clay and the guys were coming over tomorrow to help get everything moved.

I knew that Lexi was scared about starting over here in Charming, but I hoped that she would find happiness here in Charming. Maybe even with my brother.
