Chapter 23

Eliza POV

Ope and I have been moved into our house for a few weeks now, and things continuously stay busy. I've either been busy trying to help Lexi adjust to her new life in Charming or working at the garage. Lexi and Jax had been spending a lot of time together… they'd even come to a couple of the clubhouse parties together. This particular day though, I was working in the office at TM, Opie had gone up to Tacoma to handle something for Clay… which wasn't uncommon except that for the most part he usually sent Chibs. I was sitting in the office when Jax walked in. "Hey." Jax said, sitting on the couch.

I looked over at him. "Hey. I thought you were off today." I said to him.

He lit a cigarette. "Yeah, Lexi's cleaning the house today. You know how I hate the smell of cleaning products." Jax said.

I couldn't help but laugh. "Yeah, I know." I said, picking up my smokes and lighting my own. I leaned back in my chair and stared at Jax.

"What?"

I shook my head. "Nothing. I was just thinking." I said.

"About?" Jax asked me.

"You remember the letters that I told you that Dad left me with Piney?" I asked, he nodded. "I've been reading through some of them." I said.

"And?" He asked with a curious look.

"Some of them are kind of interesting. But there was one letter in particular that caught my interest and I thought that it might yours as well." I said.

"By all means…" Jax said.

I reached in the bottom drawer of the desk and pulled out an envelope out of my purse. I handed him the letter. "Promise me something." I said and he nodded. "Don't read it here." I said looking out the windows. "I don't want to take a chance of Mom or Clay knowing about it." I told him.

"I promise." Jax said, getting up and walking out of the office.

The rest of the day had passed by slowly. I'd be happier when Ope was home. I hated it when he was gone on long trips but that was part of the life. I had a bottle of whiskey sitting in my freezer for when he finished reading the letter and he showed up at my house. I wasn't completely sure how Jax would respond to the letter, to be truthful… he might react the way that I wanted to react when I first read it, and I probably would have had Opie not been here when I first read it.

***Flashback***

I'd had the day off so I'd been going through Dad's letters and putting them in a binder in chronological order. I had two sections. One section was letters that he'd written for me and the other section was letters that he'd written for Piney. As I read through the letters I came across one that I found confusing at first but then anger set in…

'My dearest Eliza –

I'm sorry that I'm having to tell you this in a letter which means that I'm not there to tell you in person. It's not a secret that after Tommy died that your mom and I started having problems. You're a smart girl and I know that you noticed things. After I set up the new charter in Belfast, I met someone. Her name is Maureen Ashby. We fell in love. After I got the Belfast charter up and running and I came home, Maureen called me to tell me that she was pregnant. I know that you probably remember me being gone a lot. Maureen had a baby girl. You and Jackson have a baby sister, her name is Tristan.

I'm sorry that you had to find out this way baby girl.'

When I'd finished reading the letter, I'd gone straight for the whiskey. That was how Ope had found me when he'd come in from the garage where he'd been working on his bike. "Babe…what's wrong?" He'd asked me.

I handed him the letter. He'd read it. When he finished, he sat it on the table and sat across from me pouring himself a shot of whiskey. "How am I supposed to tell Jax?" I asked him.

"I don't know babe, but we'll figure it. But we have to keep this away from Gemma." He told me and I nodded.

***End Flashback***

Jax POV

Eliza had handed me a letter from my father to read. Apparently, she thought that it had something in it that Gemma didn't need to know about it so I decided to head out to the cemetery to read it. There was a big oak tree near Dad's grave that Eliza would go sit under to some of our best thinking. When I sat down under the tree, I pulled the letter out of the inside pocket of my cut and opened it. As I read the letter, I couldn't believe what my Dad had said. He'd had an affair. He'd met some Irish woman and he'd had an affair. E and I had a half-sister in Belfast. The thing that I wondered though was, had my mom and Clay pushed him to it? I pulled my phone out of my pocket and I called Eliza. I told her that I wanted her and Ope to meet me at my house tonight. She agreed.

I headed back to my bike and decided to take a drive. I needed to clear my head… just about Ireland.

Eliza POV

That evening when I was closing up the garage, I was walking out to my car and I heard a noise. I looked around but I didn't see anything. I usually didn't have to worry about anything. I mean, nobody messed with SAMCRO on their own property. When I got to my car, there was a man standing there. He was dressed in black, wearing a mask and he had a gun. "Get in and don't say a word." He said. I nodded.

I climbed in the drivers side of my car and he got in the passenger side of my car. "Start driving. I'll tell you where to go." He told me.

I did as he said. He directed me to the old industrial part of Charming. It had a bunch of abandoned warehouses in it. "Pull in here." He said. I pulled into the parking lot. When I did, I noticed that there was another man standing there. He opened my door and pulled me out of the car. They took me inside the warehouse.

"What do you want from me?" I asked. They didn't say anything.

Opie POV

It was getting late. I was waiting at Jax's for her. Jax had wanted to talk to us about the letter that Eliza had given him that morning. "Dude something's wrong… I can feel it." I said, as I stood up and started pacing his living room.

Jax nodded. "You go check the house. I'll call Clay to check the tracker and I'll check the cemetery." He said. He turned to Lexi. He pulled her close to him. "We're gonna find her okay?" He told her and she nodded into his chest. "There's gun in the kitchen drawer, do not open the front door without it alright?" She nodded again.

Jax and I both took off out the front door. We hopped on our bikes and we off in separate directions. I wasn't afraid of much but the one thing that was afraid of was losing her. I couldn't imagine my life without her.

Eliza POV

They had taken me into a small room and chained me to the wall. It was something that would make Hap proud if I was being honest. But in that moment I was scared. I wanted Ope. I had no idea who my captors were but I had an idea. "What do you want from me?" I asked again.

Finally, one of them took their mask off to face me. Carlos. "Hi Eliza." He said.

"Carlos?" I asked. He nodded. "What do you want?" I asked for the third time.

"You took something from me." He said.

"I didn't take anything from you." I said glaring at him.

He backhanded me. "Manners." He said. "You always were rude. I never understood why Lexi like being friends with you."

I lifted my head up and glared at him again. "What am I doing here?"

"Where's Lexi?" He asked.

Of course. He was looking for Lexi. I should have known. He wouldn't find her. Ever since I'd moved into my house, Lexi hadn't left Jax's very much. And if she did, she wasn't alone. Jax had wanted to find this guy. I needed to buy some time til they realized that something was wrong and tracked my car. "I don't know." I said.

He hit me again. "Wrong answer. I know that she's been in contact with you." He said.

The door opened and another man walked in. I assumed that this one was his brother Josh. Maybe I could manage to get rid of both of them. I could solve both Lexi and Tara's problems. "Easy brother." The other one said.

Game on. I used my puppy eyes. "Are you Josh?" I asked. The other man walked over toward me. He pulled his mask off. He nodded. "Tara mentioned you to me. She said that you were very kind." I said.

Jax POV

When I got to the cemetery I hadn't seen Eliza's car. Shortly after, Clay had called and said that her car was at one of the abandoned warehouses in the old industrial district of Charming. He was gathering the guys to meet me and Ope cause we didn't know what we were about to walk in to. I wonder if… was it Carlos? Was his brother with him too?

When we pulled into the parking lot of the warehouse, we saw Eliza's car. We cut the engines to the bikes. I walked over to Eliza's car and felt the hood. Cold. She'd been here a while. Fuck. I looked over to Ope and nodded. He frowned. Then he looked pissed. We started to make our inside the building. I needed to find my sister and make sure that she wasn't hurt. Then I was going to make the bastard that took her pay. I knew that Ope and Hap were already coming up with ideas of how they were going to make the bastard pay.

Eliza POV

"Tara said that?" Josh asked me.

I nodded. "She did. She said that you were gentle." I told him. "Can't we come to some kind of understanding. These chains are really hurting." I said quietly.

Josh leaned close to my ear. "Do you think that I'm stupid?" He said. He stood back up and walked back over to where Carlos was standing. They stood close to the door. They were whispering something to each other. Carlos was holding me here to find out where Lexi was. If he found her, then he would surely kill her. But what about Josh? What was his end game?

Opie POV

As we made our way through the building, we didn't see anyone, which led me to believe that it was only one or two guys. As we made our through the warehouse room by room, we found it to be empty. As we made it towards the back room of the warehouse I could hear voices. I turned and looked at Jax. He nodded. We counted to three and then we kicked the door in. When we did the first thing that I saw was two men. I shot one of them in the leg and Jax shot the other one in the foot. Once they fell to the floor, I saw Eliza on the other side of the room chained to the wall. I holstered my gun as did Jax and we ran to her. "Are you okay?" I asked her.

"I've been better." She said.

Jax and I worked as quickly as we could to get the chains off of her. When we did she wrapped her arms around my neck and I picked her up and carried her bridal style. The way that she had been chained up, I knew that she was in no condition to walk.

When we got back outside to the parking lot, I put Eliza in the front seat of the van that Juice had driven. Which turned out to be a good thing. Hap had handcuffed, gagged and blindfolded the assholes that had kidnapped her and stuck them in the back of the van with Hap in the backseat watching them. "Juice take her home." I told him and he nodded. Jax had called Tara and she was meeting us at the house along with Lexi who was bringing Abel, and Gemma. I knew that Lexi was going to feel like crap. I knew that she was probably going to blame herself but I also knew that Eliza wasn't going to let her.

When Jax and I pulled in my driveway, Gemma was standing there waiting on us. When Jax, Clay and I cut the engines to our bikes she started. "What the hell happened?" Gem said.

"Gem, calm down." Clay told her.

Jax and I shook our heads as we made our way inside. Eliza was sitting on the couch with Lexi who was balling like a baby. I went to sit beside Eliza and Jax beside Lexi. "E, I'm so sorry… I had no idea that he would come here looking for me." I heard Lexi say.

Eliza POV

"Lexi, I want you to listen to me…" I said as Mom and Clay walked in and joined us. "I do not blame you for what happened tonight, and I do not want you to blame yourself as well. Do you hear me?" I asked her and she nodded.

"Eliza what happened?" Clay asked me, as Ope got comfortable beside me and put his arm around me.

"I was closing up the garage and I was walking to my car when I heard something," I said, "At first I didn't think nothing about it… I mean I was at SAMCRO. But then I got to my car. There was a man dressed in all black. He told me to get in my car in he would tell me where to drive to. I did what he said." I told them as I heard the doorbell. I figured that it was Tara. Lexi had told me that Jax had called her to come over and check me out. Jax had gone to answer my door. "I drove until I ended up at the warehouse. After a little while, I found out that it was Carlos. I remembered that you had that tracker put in my car… so I knew that all I needed to do was just buy myself some time till you guys realized that something had happened." I told them and Clay nodded.

Jax and Tara joined us. "Carlos tried to get me to tell him where Lexi was. There was no way in hell that was going to happen so he hit me. That was when the second guy came in. It was Josh." I said and I saw Tara tense up. "I knew that my time with them was limited so I tried to distract them to buy myself a little more time till you guys got there." I finished.

Clay nodded. "You did good, pumpkin." He said.

I picked up the glass of water that Lexi had fixed me before the guys had gotten there. "Thanks."

"I'm sorry that this happened to you Eliza." Tara said.

"Thanks Tara. I understand why you left Josh." I told her giving her a sympathetic smile.

Tara had helped me to the spare bedroom that I had on the first floor. She took a look at me. She didn't think that anything was broken or fractured… thank god. She thought that I needed x-rays to be sure but I told her I wasn't going to the hospital. She gave me a prescription for some pain meds. I told her that Josh didn't know that she was here so that she could relax. She didn't know that within the next couple of days that he'd be dead. Tara wasn't privy to that information.

I just wanted to put all of this behind me now…
