Chapter 25
Opie POV
When I'd woken up the next morning, I'd left Eliza sleeping. I had a lot to get done. Jax was working on securing a venue for me. I was headed over to Clay and Gemma's because I knew that they would both still be home at this hour. When I pulled into the driveway, I made my way up to the kitchen door. I knocked. Gemma opened the door with a big smile. "Morning Ope." She said.
I was nervous. I had no idea how this conversation was going to go. "Morning Gem. Clay up?" I asked.
She nodded. "Yep. He's reading the paper. Come on in. You want some coffee?" She asked me.
"Please. I was hoping that I could talk to the two of you."
"This about Eliza?" Clay said from the dining room, as I closed the kitchen door behind me.
Gemma handed me a cup of coffee and I followed her to the dining room. "Well… it's about me and Eliza actually." I said as Clay pointed to the seat next to him. The one that Eliza had sat in all those months ago. I took a deep breath. "I came here to asked your permission, both of your permission, to marry Eliza." I said.
Clay and Gemma looked at each other. "You know that she wants us to have no involvement in her personal life, don't you think that she'll consider this involvement?" Clay asked with a grin.
That was when I realized that I could relax. "Is that a yes?"
"Yes, son. It's a yes." He said taking a drink of his coffee. "You've been a member of this family since you were a kid."
"Thanks, Clay." I said as I sat there and drank my coffee.
I was finishing my coffee when my cell rang. I pulled it out of my pocket and looked at the caller id. It was Jax. I flipped it open. "Yeah." I said, as Gemma poured me some more coffee.
"I got the venue." Jax said.
"Awesome. I'll meet you at the clubhouse." I told Jax before I hung up. When Gemma sat back down, I looked at the two of them. "Can you two be at the Indian Res at 7?" I asked them. They nodded. I smiled.
When I left Clay and Gemma's I headed over to Jax's house. I had a job for Lexi. I just to get her to do it without spilling the beans to Eliza. When I pulled in the driveway, it looked like Tara was there too. I walked in and they were sitting on the couch. "This looks awkward." I said.
"Jax said that you were coming by to talk to Lexi and thought that I might could help. You gotta remember Eliza and I were best friends growing up." Tara said, smirking at me.
Tara was right. "Okay, fine." I said. "I'm proposing to Eliza tonight." I said and the girls gushed. "I need you guys to take her and get her pampered. Have a girl's day. Clay already called the salon and told them to bill him. They'll tell her that he's taking care of it. When your done getting pampered, you guys are going to head to Gemma's house where she's going to have some dresses for you guys…." I said. The girls started to frown. "The three of you."
"You're really going all out for this aren't you Ope?" Tara asked me.
"Tara, I've been in love with her for as long as I can remember… she's dreamt about me since…"
"She was thirteen." Tara said.
"You knew." I said.
She nodded. "Of course. Like I said. I was her best friend." Tara said.
"Okay I gotta run."
"Quick question… How do we get to the Res?" Lexi asked.
"Gemma has that covered." I told her, as I bolted out the door.
When I left Jax's house, I headed over to the Clubhouse where I was meeting him and the rest of the guys. He'd closed the garage for the day, so that he could help me get this done. This was so important. Eliza and I were starting a family, and I knew that it was important to her that we started it the right way.
When I parked my bike in my spot at the Clubhouse, I saw that my Dad's bike was there which fortunately meant that he was here. I walked in and saw that Jax was in an argument with him. "What's going on?" I asked.
"I'm trying to get him to sober up." Jax said.
I saw the guys standing near the chapel. I held up a finger. "Be with you fellows in a minute." I said, before turning to my dad. "Pop, today is an important day." I said.
"Why?" Pop asked.
I leaned close to him. "I'm proposing to Eliza tonight pop." I whispered.
"Oh, that is important." He said, and I nodded. "Prospect!" Dad yelled. Half-Sack came running over. "Make some coffee. Lots of it."
I stood up and Jax thru an arm over my shoulder. We walked into the Chapel. We sat down. "What's going on boys?" Tig asked.
"Tell 'em Ope." Jax said.
"I'm proposing to Eliza tonight down at the Indian Res, in front of everyone. The club. Friend, family. Everyone." I told them.
"That's great man." Chibs said.
"We're really happy for you guys." Bobby said.
"Thanks, you guys." I said. "I've got some errands to run. But Jax is helping with the coordination of everything so check with him about helping alright?" I said and everyone nodding. "I'll see yall tonight." I said and left.
When I got to the bar, I pointed at Half-Sack. "No more alcohol for him." I said and he nodded.
