Chapter 26 - Eliza POV
When I woke up that morning, Ope was gone, I'd wanted to know how he was feeling about me being pregnant. Neither one of us had said much about it the night before. We'd sat, ate and went to bed. I tried to call him but his phone kept going to voicemail.
Mom had come over after Clay had left and brought me breakfast. I couldn't eat it though. The smell made me throw up. She gave me a look and I knew I had to tell her. "I'm pregnant." I said.
"I know." She said. I glared at her. Mom had an additional sense when it came to knowing when women being pregnant. "How far?"
I curled up on the couch and wrapped up in my blanket. "About 3 weeks 4 days, Tara said." I told her.
She nodded. "How's Ope feel about it?" She asked, as I heard the doorbell.
I shrugged. I got up and went to answer the door. It was Lexi and Tara. "What are you guys doing here?" I asked as I turned around and walked back to the living room to sit back on the couch.
"Come on, we're having girls' day." Lexi said.
"What about Abel?" I asked, seeing my nephew in Lexi's arms.
"I'll watch him." Mom said, standing up and taking Abel from Lexi.
"See? Taken care of. Get dressed." Lexi said.
"I don't really feel like it you guys." I said.
"It'll be good for you." Tara said.
I glared at the three of them. "Fine. But I'm going in sweats." I said. I got up and started upstairs to go change clothes.
"As long as you go." Tara yelled up the stairs.
When I came back downstairs, my mom and Abel were gone and the three of us headed out on our girl's day.
"Maybe he doesn't wanna have kids with me." I said as we were walking into the hair salon.
Tara stopped me. "Look at me. You are Elizabeth Teller. The Daughter of JT and Gemma Teller. You are a Goddess." I couldn't help but laugh. "He is lucky that you have been in love with him since you were thirteen."
I felt tears building up. Tara knew me so well. She'd been my only growing up because Tig's girls had moved away. "Thanks T." I said, and I hugged her.
We went inside. I'd decided that I wanted a new look. I got my hair cut and then got my hair dyed blonde with red tips.
When we finished at the hair salon, I got ready to pay and Michelle the owner said that Clay had called her and said to bill him. Mom must have told him that we were planning to have a girl's day.
After the hair salon we headed over to the diner to grab a bite for lunch. I was looking out the window when I saw the guys ride by on their bike. Something must be going on. That was probably why Ope hadn't answered his phone that morning.
When we finished with lunch, we headed over to the nail salon to get our nails done. I guess that Tara saw a concerned look on my face because she whispered to me that I didn't get my nails done too often then the smell of the chemicals wouldn't harm the baby. The girls and I got mani-pedis. I stuck with a classic French white.
It was nice spending time with the girls. I wasn't sure what had suddenly made the girls want to have a girl's day. Not that I minded. I was also glad that Lexi and Tara were getting along so well despite Tara's history with my brother. It's wasn't a secret that I had been angry with Tara for the way that she'd left my brother but she'd more than made up for with the way that she'd taken care of my nephew and myself.
Once again when I went to pay at the nail salon, I was told by Cindy that Clay had called and said that he'd pay for it.
When we left the nail salon, we walked across the street to the coffee shop. As soon as I walked in, the smell hit me. Then a wave a of nauseousness hit. I ran to the bathroom. I don't know how long I was in there but when I came out Lexi was staring at me. "You okay?" She asked me.
I nodded. And then I felt the tears. "I'm pregnant." I said.
She walked over and hugged me. "It's going to be okay." She said.
The three of us walked out of the coffee shop. We ended up at the park with some milkshakes from the malt shop. "Wanna talk about what happened back there?" Lexi asked me.
We sat down on a bench. "I guess a sort of had a nervous breakdown." I said taking a drink of my milkshake. "Tara told me yesterday when I went for my checkup. So, when I left her office, I went by the grocery store, 6 pints of ice cream, and I went home and I vegged out on the couch until Ope came home where I was balling like a baby, and I blurted out that I was pregnant." I said.
"What'd Ope say?" Tara asked me.
I shook my head. "Nothing. The only thing that he said all night last night was that he was processing, which I understand. I mean it's a lot to process. I mean, we had a pregnancy scare a few months back. And since then, we've taken every precaution that we can… birth control… condoms. And when my period was late, I would take a pregnancy test. Nothing had been out of the ordinary. I no indication that I was pregnant." I told them.
"Anything's possible, Liza." Tara said.
I took another drink. "I know. I just have this feeling in the pit of my stomach…"
"What?" Lexi asked.
"That he's going to leave me and I'm going to have to raise this baby all by myself." I said.
That afternoon, we ended up at my mom's so that Lexi could pick Abel and head home. When we walked into my mom's house Clay was sitting with her on the couch. That was when I knew that something was up. "Okay, what's going on?" I asked.
"What are you talking about?" Mom asked me.
"Well, let's see… you conveniently happened to be at my house to be able to baby sit so we could have girls night… we go to the salons and when I go to pay, Clay has conveniently already called and told Michelle and Cindy that he's got it covered. Not to mention the fact that I saw the guys drive thru town earlier and you're not with them and Ope's not answering my calls." I said.
Clay stood up and kissed my cheek. "You'll know soon princess." Clay said.
"Girls." Mom said.
Lexi and Tara both nodded. They each grabbed one of my hands and dragged me up to my childhood bedroom. When I walked in, I saw three dresses laying on my bed. "I really wish that someone would tell me what's going on."
"What's going on…" I turned around to see my brother standing in the doorway. "Is that you're going to get dressed up. Everything else will come." He said giving me his trademark Teller smirk.
I turned back and looked at the dresses. Lexi, Tara and I got dressed. Then I walked into my bathroom and I did a small braid in the front on the right side of my face. Once we were dressed and we had our shoes on, we headed back downstairs where we found Mom waiting for us. "Now what?" I asked her.
She smiled at me. "Now? Now we take a ride." She said. "Come on. Everyone to the driveway." She said and we followed her outside.
When we walked out to the driveway, there was a black Hummer limo in the driveway. I looked at Mom and she nodded. Lexi and Tara both climbed in first. "Before you get in, I need you to put this on." She said, holding up a blindfold.
"You want to put a blindfold on me?" I asked her, and she nodded. "Why?"
"I can't tell you."
"Of course not." I said. She put the blindfold on me and helped me climbed in the car. I wasn't sure how long we were in the car but I'm guessing by the length of our ride that we were somewhere near the Indian Res.
The next thing I knew, I was being helped out of the car. "You okay, pumpkin?" Mom asked me, using her childhood nickname for me.
"Mom, where are we?" I asked. "But I bet you can't tell me that either, can you?"
We walked for a little while and then we stopped. That was when the blindfold came off. "Ope?" I said. I looked around. I saw everyone that we knew. The Club. Our friends. Our family. "What's going on?"
"Elizabeth Sara Teller, we have known each other our whole lives. You manage to surprise me each and every day. I know that things aren't always easy with the life that we live but somehow you make it better. I spent years wondering how I was going to get through this life, and then you walked back into my life… and I - I just knew that you were the one that I was supposed to spend my life with." Ope said. I could feel the tears running down my face.
"I know in my heart that you're that person for me. You're the one that I'm supposed to be with. You told me yourself that you'd had a crush on me since you were thirteen. Eliza, I fell in love with you but then I couldn't tell you. But now it's different. Now I want to tell the whole world how I feel about you, which is why we're here in front of our friends, family and our club…"He said, as I wiped the tears from my face.
Opie got down on one knee and held up a ring. "Elizabeth Sara Teller, will you marry me?" He asked. I couldn't speak so all I did was nod.
He stood up, slipped the ring on my finger, wrapped his arms around me and spun me around. When he sat me down, he leaned down and he kissed me.
I loved this man so much. Ever since I had found out that I was pregnant, I had been paranoid that I was going to end up raising this baby alone… and I was wrong. Throughout reading my dad's letters that Piney had given me, I'd realized that if my dad had left my mom like he said that he was going to… then my mom would have ended up raising us by herself. I guess that I ended up feeling that fear. But then again, I also had that fear because being an Old Lady in the Club there was always that chance that your Old Man could end up in jail, prison or a body bag.
If you love the man, then you learn to love the Club.
A/N: Well, Opie and Eliza are engaged! Hope that you guys enjoyed this chapter. More coming soon.
