"We are too late" Tori said nervously as several tears streamed down her face and Beck shook his head, he stared at her and he knew she was gone, but he couldn't believe it, he felt he was dreaming.
"What happened?" Andre asked as he stepped in and saw the horrible scene, so his mouth dropped "Oh god…is she?" He questioned terrified and Evelyn broke out crying into her hands as she stared at her daughter's body.
"Hold on, she still has a pulse" Anna said as she touched her neck "We need an ambulance" She said on her radio.
"Forget it, it's faster if we take her" Alex said as he came into the room and picked Jade up in his arms, he ran upstairs with her and Jade's friends and family simply looked at each other appalled. They didn't know what to do or think, she seemed dead to them and they were in shock, so they just stood there not knowing what to say.
"Hey, we have to go!" Diana shouted at them "She is still alive, guys, come on"
"Yes…" Evelyn said still appalled but she walked out, followed by everyone else and they made their way to the hospital as well, but Andre and a cop had to drive them because Beck and Jade's parents couldn't really cope.
Jade was taken into the emergency room and treated right away, she'd lost some blood but not enough to die because she'd been found in time. Her friends and family were given tranquilizers and they spent the night in the hospital, they couldn't sleep, they were just sitting there anxiously waiting for news.
"Do you guys think she is gonna make it?" Cat asked scared and Beck looked down, he didn't know what to think.
"I…" He started and then just closed his eyes in pain, he just wanted to wake up from that nightmare.
"Yes, she will" Diana affirmed.
"There was so much blood…" Tori said emotionlessly as she stared into space remembering.
"Yes, but she was still alive, maybe…maybe they could save her, right?" Robbie said trying to be positive.
"I think if she were dead, we would know by now" Diana added and looked at her parents, but they were just looking down sadly, they felt so hopeless and that horrible image of Jade bleeding out on the bed in that room would never stop haunting them "Mom, she is going to be okay" She said to Evelyn and she tried to smile, but she couldn't.
"She knew, she…she must've been so scared" Evelyn said and more tears streamed down her cheeks, so she covered her face and Beck closed his eyes in frustration, he felt the same way, he knew Jade had been through hell and he couldn't even blame her for trying to off herself.
Beck stood up and walked away, so the gang looked at each other confused and went after him, he went into the emergency staircase and took a breath as a few tears streamed down his cheeks "You okay?" Tori asked sadly.
"I should've gone with her, that day at school…I should have gone with her" He affirmed.
"Beck, you can't do this to yourself" Andre responded.
"If I'd been there, if I just…" Beck said and shook his head, he felt so overwhelmed.
"You couldn't have known that man would come, we were in school, this is not your fault in any way" Andre affirmed and Beck looked down.
"That bastard took her back to that place and now she's almost dead because she couldn't handle it anymore" Beck said angrily "She wouldn't be here, none of this would be happening if I'd been with her that day, I would've killed him before he touched her, but I wasn't and that's why he took her and that's why she is dying now" He affirmed and punched the wall in frustration as he cried more "Fuck" He said and punched the wall again.
"Beck, calm down" Tori said.
"She is gonna pull through, she is strong" Robbie commented and Beck took a breath, he wanted to believe that, he needed to, but he couldn't feel at peace.
"Come on, let's go get some coffee…" Andre said and they all went to the cafeteria, they need a breather. They bought coffee for Jade's family as well and walked back to the waiting room to join them.
"It's almost 7AM, what could be taking them so long?" Diana questioned.
"No news, uh?" Anna asked as she and Alex joined them as well.
"No, did that bastard confess?" Mr. West asked them and they sighed.
"Not exactly, but the other three did…they said he promised them sex with her in exchange for money, all cash, two of them wanted a threesome and the other one agreed to take his turn afterwards" Alex commented and Beck felt his blood boiling inside his body just listening to that.
"That's enough, right? We can send that man to prison" Evelyn said and they nodded.
"It won't be a problem" Anna said and then they saw a doctor coming, so they all stood up to get the news. Tori held Beck's hand and he squeezed it nervously, he'd never been more scared to hear something, he just wanted the doctor to say she was alive.
"How is she?" Evelyn asked concernedly.
"Don't worry, she is okay, she lost some blood but not enough to cause any real harm" The doctor explained and they exhaled relieved, Tori smiled and Beck closed his eyes gratefully "You brought her in time"
"Thank god" Diana said relieved and smiled at her husband.
"See? She is okay" Andre said to Beck and he took a breath, he hadn't relaxed for a moment all night and it was nice to finally have some peace.
"Did you run the rape kit I requested last night?" Anna asked and the doctor nodded.
"Positive, there was some scarring…and fluids are pretty recent, probably a few hours before you brought her in" He said and they looked down, they knew her father had probably raped her, but it was still horrible to have it confirmed "She also has some older bruises on her thighs, knees and arms consistent with assault"
"The DNA will put that bastard in the cell where he belongs, no questions asked" Alex commented.
"The DNA in the semen is a partial match to hers, it's from her father, isn't it?" He questioned and they nodded.
"Yes, that bastard is her biological father" Mr. West said upset and the doctor sighed clearly disturbed.
"But other than that, she is okay, right?" Beck questioned to confirm it, he needed the reassurance.
"Yes, she is physically okay but I'm afraid there's more…" The doctor said mortified and they looked at him confused, his tone worried them.
"What is it? Just tell us" Evelyn demanded anxiously and he sighed.
"She is four weeks pregnant" He informed and their eyes wide opened.
"What?" Beck asked horrified.
"No" Mr. West said and shook his head.
"Are you sure?" Evelyn asked and the doctor nodded.
"Yes, we ran several tests" The doctor informed.
"No, I mean, are you sure it's four weeks?" Evelyn questioned, Jade had been away for a little over a month, so she had hope that the pregnancy was older.
"What do you mean?" The doctor asked and she looked at Beck.
"You guys have been together" Evelyn said "Is it possible that it's yours?" She asked, she just wanted that to be the case and, in those moments, Beck wished that too, but he knew it wasn't.
"No" He said.
"Are you sure? Beck, come on, now's not the time to hide this" Evelyn insisted "We know you two don't just hold hands, please be honest"
"Mom, come on…" Diana said uncomfortably and shook her head.
"I'm not trying to hide anything" Beck responded "But it can't be mine"
"How can you be so sure? Condoms are not always effective" Mr. West said and Beck sighed, he didn't really want to give them details, but he understood they needed to find hope because reality was too crude.
"I know and believe me, I wish I could say it's mine…but it's not" Beck said sadly "We haven't been together since Diana came back and this whole mess began, Jade would have to be nearly four months pregnant if it were mine" He added.
"The pregnancy can't be older than four weeks, I'm sorry" The doctor commented.
"Oh my god…" Tori said appalled and looked at her friends, Beck closed his eyes in frustration and Jade's parents looked at each other mortified. Pregnant, with her own father's child.
"This can't be happening" Evelyn said sadly.
"Does she know?" Mr. West asked.
"Yes, we just told her" The doctor said "She is still a little numb, but she is awake…"
"Thank you" Anna said and looked at Jade's parents "Well, this is your time"
"What are we gonna do? What can we say to her?" Evelyn asked mortified with tears in her eyes "She is carrying her father's child" She said.
"She can't have it, she has to get an abortion" Mr. West said.
"I agree, I think that's the best option but that's up to her" Anna commented "Right now she just needs your support"
"Of course" Evelyn said and took a breath, but she felt the need to cry so she looked down and wiped some tears away "I…I can't understand why this is happening, she doesn't deserve it, John, she doesn't deserve this" she said as she cried more and her husband hugged her.
"We'll take care of her now" He said and she nodded as she used her tissue to wipe the tears away.
"Let's go"
Jade's family and friends walked into her room and found her just staring at the ceiling, but she turned to them as soon as she felt them coming. She was wearing the hospital gown, she had bandages on her wrists and she'd regained some color on her cheeks, but somehow, she still looked gray, it was like they could see the hopelessness she radiated.
"Hi honey" Evelyn said with a sad smile and Jade looked down emotionlessly.
"How are you feeling?" Tori asked, but Jade didn't respond, she simply took a breath.
"How did you find me?" She asked keeping her face down.
"It wasn't easy, but we never stopped looking" Mr. West said and Jade looked at them for a few seconds, but then she turned back to the wall.
"Honey, please talk to us" Evelyn said.
"I'm pregnant" Jade suddenly said to her parents and they sighed sadly "I'm eighteen and I'm pregnant" She repeated.
"We know, the doctor told us" Mr. West said and she nodded slowly.
"Do you know what that means? I'm having my father's child" She added as she resisted the need to burst into tears "My own brother or sister, do you understand that?" She asked them, because she was trying to understand it herself and they knew it, she looked so unsettled and confused, it was obvious she couldn't really process it and they couldn't blame her, it was a horrible thing to digest.
"Jade…" Her mother said and tried to hold her hand, but she pulled it back.
"My name is not Jade" She said coldly "I don't have a name, I don't have a family, I don't have anything…it's all a lie, but this, this is real" She said as a few tears streamed down her cheeks and she touched her belly with her fist, she hated it so much "You should've just let me die like I was supposed to, this aberration would've died with me and it would all be okay" She said and they looked at each other completely heartbroken, they knew she meant it.
"No, you have to live, you can't let that bastard take your life" Beck said.
"What life, Beck?" Jade asked him angrily "Jade's life? You mean your girlfriend of three years whom you knew nothing about until a few months ago?" She asked and he sighed.
"Jade, that's n-" He started but she cut him off.
"I have news for you, Jade was never even real, at least she is not the person you met…this is Jade" Jade said as she pointed at Diana "Look at her, she is Jade West, the girl you met in high school is a lie I created to escape reality and it worked…for a while, but it's over, I can't run from the truth and this is the truth" She said sadly as she grabbed his hand made him touch her belly.
"Stop it, you are not a lie and you are not what that bastard did to you, you don't belong to him" Beck affirmed and she chuckled.
"You keep telling yourself that" Jade said coldly and pushed his hand away again "Get out, all of you" She demanded.
"What?" Her mother asked confused "Honey, no…"
"We all know the only reason you're here right now is that you feel bad for me, but it's not your problem, I'm not your daughter and you don't have to keep pretending you care about me" Jade said.
"Why would you say that? We do care about you" Mr. West said.
"You sent me to prison, you only dropped the charges after you found out about my real dad and the only reason you took me in again is because you knew I was on the streets and because Anna told you I would end up as a hooker if I didn't get help, that's not love, that's pity" Jade commented and they looked at each other, she had a point.
"Anna told us what would happen to you, but she didn't make the choice, we did because we love you and we couldn't live with ourselves knowing you were out there, alone and in danger" Evelyn explained.
"I know, but that's the point, you didn't really want me, you just didn't want to feel guilty" Jade said coldly "And you don't have to, I relieve you of that burden, you can go"
"Honey, you are not a burden, why did you suddenly change your mind? What did that bastard say to you?" Evelyn asked confused.
"I just had a lot of time to think when I was back in the room, especially in the dark all those days, it gave me clarity on many things…" Jade responded "For starters, I should've never left in the first place, I should've known he would find me sooner or later, he is my dad, I belong with him, as sick and twisted as that is, it's the truth"
"No, he may have fathered you, but he is not your dad" Mr. West affirmed "He is a sick bastard and I will make sure he rots in a dark hole for the rest of his life"
"That won't change what already happened, so…don't bother, just go, forget you ever met me and get back to your lives" Jade said seriously "I'll get back to mine"
"What is that supposed to mean? You literally just said you don't have a life, do you really expect us to leave and let you kill yourself?" Beck asked coldly and she sighed, that was exactly what she wanted and she wasn't even trying to hide it.
"Just go" Jade demanded as she looked down at her belly, she felt the need to rip it open and get that thing out, she couldn't stand the thought of her father's child growing inside her for another minute.
"No" Evelyn responded "We are not leaving"
"I don't need you, I don't need any of this…" Jade said as a couple of tears streamed down her cheeks, she was trying her hardest to stop but she could feel her emotions building up and choking her.
"We are not leaving you" Her father said and she stared at them coldly as she struggled to keep the tears inside.
"Please just go" Jade whispered as a couple of tears ran down her cheeks because she was about to crack "I just need to disappear, I need to stop existing, please…just…" She said but she couldn't even keep talking, she finally broke out crying and Evelyn immediately hugged her.
"You are going to get through this, I promise" Her mother said as she hugged her tightly and Jade cried her eyes out "You are not alone, Jade, we are your family whether you like it or not, you won't get rid of us and we will be here for you every step of the way"
