Arriving at Beatrice's favorite ice cream shop, he filled the child in. The place was his worst nightmare. Kids running from end to end, high on sugar. Parents sucked into their phones, not caring what their child's did or said. This was hell on earth!
Lucifer dodged every sticky hands that ran across him, making it to the counter without messing his suit. "Well now, Beatrice what will you be getting?"
Trixie moved to stand between the counter and Lucifer, standing on her tippy toes to look. "Lucifer, can you lift me up?"
Without a second thought, he reached down and picked her up. "Just watch the suit child."
"I want a banana spit with two chocolate scoops and one strawberry. Sprinkles and nuts." Trixie said.
Lucifer placed her back down on the ground. "I will take a vanilla cup." Handing her the money, they sat in the booth furthest away from everyone.
"Are you the real devil?" Trixie suddenly asked.
Lucifer was surprised by the sudden question. "Excuse me?"
"You said you were once an angel." Trixie said. "And I was told the devil was once an angel that fell from the sky. And your name is Lucifer."
"Beatrice, I am not sure this is something I should be talking to you about." Lucifer was actually uncomfortable. He was afraid that once she found out who he truly was, she would fear him.
Trixie shrugged. "I don't care if you are Lucifer."
"You don't?"
"No."
Lucifer stared at her in awe. "If I were to tell you I was the devil-"
"I would think it is the coolest thing ever!" Trixie chuckled.
"But.."
"Mom always said never to judge anyone based on what other people say." Trixie said, taking a mouthful of ice cream. "And I know you are not bad or evil."
"You do?" Lucifer stared at her.
Trixie nodded. "Yes, you have saved my mommy and me lots of times. I have seen mom smile a lot more since you showed up, even though she says you are crazy half the time. If you were evil like everyone says, you wouldn't have done any of that." She took another mouthful of ice cream, glancing up at him.
Lucifer couldn't help, but smile at her. "Thank you. That really means a lot."
She simply shrugged. "Is my brother going to stay with us?"
"What do you mean?"
"He is an angel right?" Lucifer nodded. "Will he go, you know up there."
Lucifer frowned, shaking his head. "No. They will never take him. I promise." And he will do the impossible in keeping his word. No one, not even his father would ever lay a hand on him. "You fin-" He looked up to see Trixie cover in chocolate. "I'll take that as a yes."
Walking off the elevator to his loft, he frowned at seeing Dan standing by his bar. "What's he doing here?"
"Hi daddy." Trixie called out, still staying beside Lucifer.
"Hey baby, ready to go." Dan to Lucifer's surprise gave the devil a small nod. "Hey Lucifer."
"Ah, yeah hi." Sliding cautiously around him, he paused for a second. "You feeling alright?"
"Yeah." Ushering the child into the bedroom, he frowned. "Are they trying to deceive me again?"
"Who's trying to deceive you?" Chloe asked walking out from the bathroom. She seemed to be doing better. Grabbing the bag from the bed she handed it to Trixie.
Lucifer gestured to the other room. "Dan said hi to me."
"That's what mannered people do Lucifer." Chloe chuckled. "They say hi to others."
"And he smiled at me." Lucifer whispered. "Dan never smiles at me."
"He and I had a long chat." Chloe said.
"Alone?!"
Suddenly Angelous wails echoed through the loft.
"Lucifer!" Chloe groaned, rushing to the crying baby. "I just put him down for the nap as well."
"Sorry, but you were alone with him."
Handing the child to his father, Chloe sighed. "I know you don't like it, but he is the father of my daughter. He will always be present in my and her life. What happened between me and him, the good and bad is in the past. We have decided to try and get along with each other. I mean we do work in the same place after all." Seeing the look he gave her, she smirked. "When I said each other, I meant all of us. That includes you to."
"Detective!" Once again Angelou's began crying, clearly not liking the sound of yelling. Bouncing the child in his arms, he growled softly. "Fine, I will try and get along. No promises."
Chloe smiled, giving him a quick kiss. "All I ask is for you to try please." Walking Trixie out to her father, she waited for them to climb into the elevator and leave. She wasn't sure what brought on the sudden change in Dan, but she wasn't going to fight it. Walking back towards the room, she paused at the scene in front of her. Lucifer held his child in front of him, with his wings spread out. Angelou's stared up at him, giggling imitating his father.
"Well aren't you a handsome devil." Lucifer chuckled.
Chloe walked over to him. "How long before he learns to put his wings away?"
Lucifer frowned, having completely forgotten about that. "Well, if he is anything like me. I'd say a few weeks."
"How much different will he be than normal children?" Chloe asked. "Besides the obvious."
"He will grow faster." Lucifer replied. "He have pretty much everything I have. Except my mojo. In time he will discover what his is."
Running her hand through his blond hair, she smiled at the content look on his tiny face. "Any way we can help him put his wings away?" Seeing the confused look on him, she elaborated. "My mother will be coming in a week to see him. So does a few other friends and family."
Placing him back in the crib, he turned his attention to her. "We can bind his powers."
"Will that hurt him?" She suddenly became defensive at the taught of harming her child.
"Of course not detective." Lucifer grabbed her hand, walking her towards the bar. Serving himself a glass or Whiskey, he handed her some orange juice. "Remember that time Angelou's nearly boiled you alive?" Chloe rolled her eyes, but nodded. "I can give him the drink to harness his powers back. That should force his wings back in and as long as he keeps drinking it, there won't be a problem."
Chloe took a sip of her drink, mauling over her options. "I don't like that idea of forcing it upon him, but even if he learns to hide them-"
"He can still let it slip at any moment." Lucifer finished.
"Yeah." Chugging her juice down, she sighed deeply. "Alright, once he hits a certain age we can stop and slowly begin teaching him."
"Alright, I'll let Mariel know." Lucifer said. "She can help me making it."
"Alright well, can you watch him?" Chloe asked. "I have to go back home and change. Not to mention, I need to get back on track with work and finding a new school for Trixie."
"Are you sure you are up for that?" Lucifer asked. "You did just heat up and burned me."
"I am fine. Maze explained to me what happened. I will be careful." Chloe promised.
Lucifer chuckled. "Very well, in that case I'lol watch him. As for the school, I'll look for one you just focus on work. Call me if you get a case."
Leaning up on her tip toes, she pulled him down for mind blowing kiss. "You are the best, thank you."
Watching her grab her keys and take off, he turned around facing his brother. "Gabriel, what an unpleasant surprise."
"Lucifer." Gabriel grumbled. "I have come with a message from father."
"Oh, please do tell."
Gabriel closed his eyes as he inhaled, snapping them open. "Your half breed is here?" Walking towards the bedroom, he was blocked by Lucifer. "I was simply going to say hi brother. He is my nephew after all."
"He is asleep." Lucifer smiled. "Chloe hates it when he is awaken before time."
"Hmm." Turning around he glanced around the room. "Yes well if you wish for her to see him grow up, you best hurry and find mother."
Lucifer glared at him. "What do you mean?"
"Father has decided that he would very much love to have his grandchild grown beside him." Gabriel did the mistake in taking his eyes off Lucifer, as he was slammed against the wall.
"The hell he is!" Lucifer yelled, his eyes turning red. "You tell father that should he try and take my child, there will be war!"
"Temper. Temper." Gabriel chuckled, shoving his bother off him.. "Bring mother to us and you shouldn't worry about that."
Lucifer growled. "He will get mother."
Walking towards the balcony, Gabriel glanced at him over his shoulder. "Do hurry brother. If not next time I come, I will not be leaving alone." Spreading his winds, he disappeared.
Lucifer dropped his tough act, taking in a shaky breath. Falling to his knees, he looked up at the ceiling. "I really do hope, for everyone's sake that Gabriel is lying. Unlike you I will do whatever it takes to keep what is mine unharmed. If that means going against you and my siblings then so be it. But you will never take them away from me!"
Of that promise you.
