A/N: I do not own any of the characters listed here. All rights to the original story and most characters go to Okayado. This is just a story continuing after the events of Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls Season 1 and the OVAs created after. I know the story continues in the manga and that it will get a season 2 sometime within a year, but this is just a… actually, I don't know what to call it. I guess a test of my writing skills? A way to cope? Anyway, here's the story, hope you enjoy it. Be gentle, it's my first time! XD
"...see that you are indeed eligible to move in. And I assume you understand the living conditions?"
"Yes, Miss Smith."
The room was dark. That was expected, seeing that all these people in black suits seemed to go for the "intimidating" persona. These guys were probably watching through the One-Way Glass, muttering code into their earpieces or whatever they do. Despite the coldness of the metal chair, I was sweating profusely. Yes, because of Smith's piercing stare, but also because of why I was there. The whole situation was like a classic secret agent movie.
Smith folded her hands on the table and gave me a questioning look.
"You sure? Because this isn't really for the faint of heart. It might sound good at first, but the homeowner has been through the ringer to watch over these girls. And you don't particularly strike me as one who can handle a crisis."
My ears reddened. Sure, I wasn't TRAINED at handling a crisis, but I wasn't hopeless. And she didn't need to point it out. "Look, you BROUGHT me here. Why are you asking me if I'm up for the task when you obviously brought me here because you thought I could do it?"
Smith leaned in. "I brought you here for a different reason. And I just need you to comply for you to legally move in."
Leaning back into the chair and sighing, I asked, "I'm not saying I'm not willing to do it. I just want to know why you chose me, and why you think I'd be willing."
Smiling, Smith said, "Alright. I'll answer your questions. Just 'cause I'm nice like that."
I felt a shiver go through me after she said that. I knew she was definitely a looker, with her long dark hair and angular jawline, but I wasn't really attracted to her. I guess it was just my nerves on edge.
Smith stood up, folded her hands behind her back, and started to circle the room. "You've been researched, as you know. Some particular facts really stood out to me. You've recently moved to Japan from the States. You've done well at learning the language, and you already have a cheap apartment from your savings. But you - forgive me if I'm prying, but you can't seem to hold a job, can you?"
My face was probably cherry-red by now. "No, I haven't. I-I'm not a motivated worker. I'm ashamed of it, but labor isn't my strong suit. Unless it's something I enjoy, but I haven't found any job like that here."
"I see." She stopped pacing, stopping right behind her chair and looking straight into my eyes. "And am I correct in knowing that unless you find a job soon, you will be evicted from your current place of stay?", she asked, eyes glinting.
I didn't answer her, but I didn't need to: I felt all the color draining from my face. At least I wasn't red anymore.
Smiling again, she said, "I thought so. You're probably wondering where I'm going with all this." She sat down again. "Well, this line of work, we would consider a job. We would PAY you to live rent-free to act as a second host family. All you have to do is obey the law and watch over the girls. You would even get to move out of that ghetto apartment and move into a fully-furnished house with your own room. Frankly, you should be paying us", she said, chuckling.
I had to admit, she listed all the reasons why I said I would take the job. And why they wanted me - based on how Smith put it, she didn't want some guy from the US to be damaging to the economy. This was the best way to go, for both me and the government.
Smith checked her watch.
"Well, it's about time to wrap up this meeting. I only have one final question for you."
"Yeah?"
"Do you agree to the terms?"
Breathing out one last sigh of exasperation, I gave her an answer that would change my life as I knew it.
"Yes."
A/N: Alright, good start! I think this is the start of a beautiful story (I hope)! Let me know what you think of it and your own feelings on Monster Musume!
