Sophomore Year

Back to School-

Move in day had come and Amy was ecstatic to be back on campus. Everyone had pretty much the same living arrangements. Rosa and Amy were roommates right next door to Jake and Charles. Gina had her own dorm, just at a different place this time and Terry was living nearby off campus again. They all met up in the dining area for dinner and talked about their summers(not too much though since they all stayed in good contact mostly) and their classes. They all had two classes that Holt taught, which were another level of criminology and another criminal justice class. They were all very happy to have classes with Holt and have all six of them in the classes together. Sophia was with them because she was still with Jake, but she had no classes with any of them. Amy felt a pang of jealousy when they kissed before Sophia headed off to her friends. She hated that she felt like this. She was with Teddy and they were happy she thought. This reaction didn't go unnoticed by Rosa though.

Later that evening Rosa and Amy are back in the room. "I saw your face when Jake and his girlfriend kissed Santiago. It was so terribly obvious you were jealous," Rosa says, matter-of-factly. Amy blushes and tries to make an excuse. "Santiago, don't give me an excuse. I know you like him still. As much as I hate talking about feelings, you are my friend so tell me what's wrong."

"Fine Rosa. I thought I was over him but I'm not. It's been like this since last May when I one the bet and we watched those documentaries together. But he's happy with Sophia and I'm with Teddy! Teddy is just like me and we should be perfect but he's boring and I don't ever feel a spark with him like a feel with Jake! And I just don't know what to do!" Amy exclaims, letting tears flow freely as Rosa decides to hug her, which Amy immediately responds to clutching her with her face burning in Rosa's shoulder.

"Well at least you admitted it. Now you know what to do next about Teddy right?" Amy nods, "good. Are you feeling better now?"

"Ya. Thanks Rosa," Amy says as they release the hug. Amy spends the next two days avoiding Teddy and making excuses to not see him and writing out her breakup essay (because that's basically what it is). There's a party at Terry's on Friday and she is gonna go to blow off steam and have fun before she breaks up with him on Saturday. She figures it's Teddy so without her asking him to come to it, he won't be there.

Friday morning she's sitting next to Jake with the rest of the group around them in one of Holt's classes like usual. "And with that our class comes to a close for today. Remember your essays on why you have chosen your planned fields and careers are due next Friday. Dismissed," Holt tells them. They spend lunch talking about their essays and the party that night. After classes Amy heads back to the room with Rosa and Gina to get ready for tonight.

"So Amy I hear you're gonna break up with boring Ted?" Gina says, which makes Amy shoot a glance at Rosa that she answers with a shrug.

"Ya I Am Gina," Amy says, feeling her stress building.

"Well I can tell you're getting stressed but don't worry Rosa and I have got your back if you need us," she tells her, pulling her into a hug that Rosa joins.

"Thank you guys so much!" Amy says before they focus back on getting ready for the party. Soon they are ready to go and get to the party. Not long after they walk in Amy sees the worst thing possible right now. Teddy. And he's already seen her.

"Oh no guys! I'm not prepared for the break up yet!" Amy tells them, panic in her voice.

"We got you Amy. We can try to keep him away and if it comes to the break up, we got your back!" Gina tells her as Rosa nods.

"Okay thanks," Amy tells them, calming down as she sneaks away before Teddy gets to her. She successfully avoids him and gets a drink before she finds Jake, Sophia, Charles, and Terry so she hangs with them for a while, nearly forgetting Teddy was even there. But alas it's Amy so something will probably go wrong she thinks just before it does. "Hey you," she hears Teddy say from behind her. Not angrily but somewhat lovingly and that made it so much worse. If he had been angry it would be easier to break up but he's not. He's the opposite of angry with her and she's basically frozen due to her panic. "Amy you alright?"

That shakes her out of her stupor,"Oh ya I'm good. What's up Teddy?"

"I wanted to see if you want to head out and go catch a movie or something?"

"Uh Teddy I'd rather just stay here and party."

"Oh okay well maybe tomorrow?"

"Um actually I think we should talk," Amy says grabbing another drink and leading him to one of the bedrooms so she can tell him privately. Rosa and Gina take notice and follow a bit behind so they can listen from outside the room. "So What's up Amy? I feel like you've been avoiding me all week. Did I do something?"

"No you didn't do anything wrong! But uh, I think th-, I think we need to break up!" She says finally getting the words.

"What why?" he looked sad and she felt horrible but this had to happen.

"I'm sorry and I know you really like me and I really liked you too. But I don't feel the same about you like you feel about me Teddy I'm sorry. And I know we have so much in common but that's part of the issue. We're too similar and there's no surprises or excitement any more."

"I can be spontaneous! I don't just like studying and binders and things like that."

"Teddy I'm sorry but you're too boring. I don't see a happy future for me with you and it's wrong to keep leading you on and having you think that it'll be something more!"

"Wow okay. But I can't say I'm surprised because you've been acting a bit strange with me ever since you and Jake watched those documentaries together in May after your bet. So is Jake the main reason you want to end things?"Amy sat there silently and looked to the ground. "I figured. You both have nothing in common and he already has a girlfriend! I still love you Amy and I'm willing to move past this if you are."

"No Teddy! It's over! I'm not changing my mind!"

"Well just think ab-" Teddy says before gina and Rosa burst in while Amy is starting to cry.

"Alright Tedster time to leave! She said she's done with your boring ass and she means it! Can't say we aren't happy though because we knew from the beginning you were wrong for her plus now I'm hoping for no more mind numbingly boring interactions with you or any interactions really. Toodles!" Gina says as she ushers him out of the room and sits down with Amy and Rosa to comfort her.

"Amy, I know this isn't how you planned it but at least it's over now, right?" Rosa asks, which Amy responds to a nod with.

"Do you want us to stay here with you til you feel better?" Gina asks.

"No it's okay. Go enjoy the party! I'll be good soon," she says to which they both look unsure but she tries her best to make them think she'll be fine soon and they leave. Amy sits there crying until she hears knock on the door and is greeted by the concerned face of Jake. "Ames are you okay? What happened?"

She sighs and says,"Me and Teddy just broke up and he didn't take it well."

"Oh. Well I'm assuming you weren't happy and that's why you ended it," Jake says he sits down next to her and wraps an arm around her. She leans against him as she cries. "And if he couldn't accept that you wanted to break up because you were unhappy, and that he cared about himself mostly, then it's good it's over cuz that's not someone who is worth your time. Especially the time of the incredible Amy Santiago!" He makes her smile a bit and they just sit there holding each other for a while until she feels better.

Jake lets everyone know he's gonna bring her back to the dorm and they head out and walk back to her room. They get back and she hugs him goodnight before going into her room. Jake sits on his bed and thinks. He hates seeing her so upset and doesn't know how to make her feel better. His heart aches for her because of how she is feeling and because as much as he likes Sophia, he can't get over his feelings for Amy.
