There's not exactly a lot of information about medical technology in the Naruto world, so I'm just assuming that modern technology like MRIs and X-rays exist alongside medical ninjutsu. This probably doesn't seem important but I just thought I might as well clear that up. Now, let us begin.
It can be hard,
Like a sheet of glass
Is embedded in my heart.
Not just a shard.
I can either leave it,
Or let it shatter.
Well I guess
The former is better than the latter.
"So everything's going to be alright?"
"Yes Naruto-kun," Hinata let out a giggle, "you've asked me 4 times now."
"Can you just," Naruto held up a finger to ask her to explain one more time.
She rolled her eyes. Who thought he would be the one worrying so much, "The X-ray showed that the bone will have to be realigned," Naruto cringed at this, "no it's going to be fine I promise. I won't even be awake for it. Anyway after that I'll have to be here for a couple more days and then the doctors will put a cast on me and I'll be free to go."
Naruto was still confused, "So how do you go to the bathroom?"
She blushed from embarrassment, "I would rather not talk about it." She still couldn't put pressure on the leg. It was in a half cast until she had surgery. She didn't have to go in like a bedpan or anything, she was just embarrassed to talk about going to the bathroom to Naruto.
"And why do you have to wait so long?"
A monotone voice boomed behind him, "The reason is the leg will be swollen after the surgery, so they can't put the cast on until that swelling goes down."
"Hey Shino-kun!" Hinata waved. He stood at the door frame and held an awkward silence for a little too long before he began walking towards her.
"I brought you-"
"KEHIBAN!" Three voices pushed his aside. Shino hung his head in defeat. Sakura, Ino, and Temari barged into the room, Kankurō and Gaara not far behind. The three girls swarmed Hinata and handed her a cinnamon bun each, which she put on the table next to the white lily Naruto brought her. Shino hung his head even lower.
"I too got you a cinnamon bun," he muttered as the bun floated to her. She was overjoyed. Naruto had also brought one earlier. As far as she was concerned, breaking her leg was mostly a positive.
"EW! Shino why'd you use bugs to give it to her?"
"You three were in the way."
Naruto stood up to interrupt the one-way shouting match, "I was going to go visit the others. Any of you want to come with?" Shino was already out in the hall, along with Kankurō
"I would like nothing more," Shino replied, turning to leave. Naruto and Gaara followed suit, the former turning to wave goodbye. Naruto had asked the receptionist for the rooms of all of the people he knew. It was the morning after the chūnin exams, and Naruto had gotten gifts for everyone last night. He even had some for the people not in the hospital. He handed Shino a wooden bug model, Gaara a bandana, and Kankurō a pair of hand knitted gloves. Okay yeah. So what? he picked up knitting. It's not a big deal, Kurama. Said fox just let out a belly laugh.
"Gloves? May I ask why?" Kankurō raised an eyebrow to the boy, "I knitted them myself!" He exclaimed proudly, "I thought if you were ever using your puppet in the wintertime, your hands might get cold." Naruto was in a rather charitable mood for some reason. Maybe he just wanted to congratulate the others for making it so far. Who knows?
"Why the bandana?" Gaara spoke up now.
"So sand doesn't get in your face. Ironically, I had to wear one of those over my face to buy it," he chuckled a little bit as he looked away and frowned. Sometimes he would have to cover his face and wear a hat to be able to buy anything in town. If nobody knew who he was, they couldn't harass him.
He entered back into the room holding a mini hand fan, a floral vase, and a bracelet. The fan was for Temari, the vase for Ino, and the bracelet for Sakura. He placed something in Hinata's hand too as he he leaned in and poked her forehead. A symbol she had come to adore. Sakura looked at the bracelet. It had beads with kanji that read, 'The blossom that never wilts.' Who knew Naruto could be so thoughtful.
Naruto entered the hallway and led the other boys to the next room. Sasuke was two rooms down from Hinata. Although he came to watch the rest of the preliminaries, everyone had learned that he snuck out from the hospital, and still wasn't 100%. Naruto entered and left a container of tomatoes with a note on it on the table. He knew Sasuke probably wanted to be alone. "Thank you Naruto," the Uchiha muttered. Naruto stopped and smiled over his shoulder before walking out. Sasuke was secretly jumping with joy. He loved tomatoes more than most things.
The next room was Kiba. Shino had brought his teammate beef jerky and Naruto brought a bone for Akamaru. Initially the puppy growled at the sight of Naruto, only to be patted by Kiba who told him to settle down. After talking for a while the group headed back off, "Hey Shino next time we play poker I won't go easy!" Shino scoffed at the boy's remark. Naruto stared at the boy in shock, "Shino did you-"
"I have no idea what you're talking about,"
"Shino you totally laughed!" Kiba shouted.
The group had a pleasant conversation with Tenten. Naruto gifted her one of his flying raijin kunai.
They were heading to Lee's room when they overheard a doctor and Gai talking.
"It's likely, after opening so many of the gates at such a young age, that he will never be a shinobi again. On top of that, there are shattered bone fragments strewn throughout his body. It would be incredibly dangerous to perform surgery." Everyone who heard it stared ahead in shock. Lee began to sob as Gai pleaded with the doctor. The group of kids thought it was best to leave him alone for now and they began to walk back to Hinata's room.
"Naruto," a familiar voice called out behind him, "I need your help." Naruto turned around to see his godfather, the pervy sannin Jiraiya himself. "Leave me alone you old perv, I just got some bad news," the boy turned away, "I can't help you with research right-"
"I know someone who can fix your friend, but I need your help to bring her here." All of the boys turned around at this. Gaara felt especially bad. He was at least partly responsible, even if it was the 8 inner gates that harmed the boy. Naruto handed Kankurō something, "Give this to Lee when you can." When Naruto let go of the object, it immediately dropped to the ground in Kankurō's hand, 'What the hell is this thing?!' Naruto handed Kankurō a set of small, super-powered magnet weights that he had been using to train. They would attract to the metal in the earth: "Training with the intense weight of gravity!" Was the Tagline of the product. "Let's go old man. Hurry up!"
Naruto and Jiraiya finally arrived at their destination that night. They had been walking all day. Naruto followed Jiraiya into a tavern. Jiraiya told Naruto to wait by the door. He went to a table and sat down. Naruto almost immediately got bored and went up to the bar, "Hey can I get some sake?"
"Not old enough, kid."
"Well you know the saying, old enough to kill, old enough to drink."
"Yeah right you've killed someone," in response to this, Naruto pulled out a scroll, applied some chakra, and opened the seal, revealing Gatous severed head. It was perfectly preserved and the neck slice was cauterised. No bleeding! The bartender recoiled in disgust, "Get out kid. You're getting blood on my bar." Now the entirety of the tavern was looking at him.
"But the wound is cauterised! It's not even-"
"GET OUT!"
Naruto obliged, resealing the head before hanging his own in defeat and walking out. Jiraiya watched the boy and raised his eyebrows to the fellow sannin, "That's why I told him to stay by the bar."
Naruto was sitting criss-cross outside the tavern. He was making a small fire in his hand and extinguishing it with a water bubble. Tsunade stormed out drunk and Naruto stood up, "Are you Tsunade?" She turned around to face the blonde.
"Yeahn wusit to you."
"You certainly don't look like a granny." he began to approach her, "I know you've seen some shit, but I didn't think you'd be that much of a drunk. You abandoned the village to gamble, huh?"
She stared daggers into the boy, "You would have no idea how much I've been through."
Naruto sighed and shook his head, "Can I show you something? You'll be the first person I've shown this to." She raised an eyebrow to the boy, "Stick out your fist," Naruto held his own out. Tsunade stuck hers out hesitantly. Naruto touched their fists together.
Tsunade could hear a quiet melody in the background.
Clink, clink clink, clink, clink
It sounded like someone tapping on glass.
The melody faded and she was now looking at a fleeing Orochimaru. "I'll let those nassssty villagersss deal with you," she heard pounding footsteps and watched in horror as the door bust open, revealing an angry mob, the man at the front carrying a fire poker, "THERE'S THAT DAMN DEMON," the man charged and thrust the weapon into her. 'What the hell is going on,' she watched in horror as she was tied up, slashed in all sorts of manners. The last thing she saw, besides the fire poker, was the full moon.
Clink, clink clink, clink, clink
Tsunade was now in a brown lair. Children were screaming muffled words at her from test tubes, "FREE US!", "HELP ME!" She watched in horror as when she did so, the child fell dead to the floor. She walked by some cages, corpses and feces in each one. She walked up to a cage that held a small child, only a few years older than the boy she just met. He was whimpering, curled up on the stone floor, surrounded by corpses and coated in dry blood. She was now outside of her body. She saw that same blonde boy who she had just met standing outside the cell, tearing up. She blinked and she saw that same boy standing shocked as he stared at a child his age lying lifeless at his feet. She began to tear up, causing her to blink rapidly. Every time she blinked she saw another horrible scene, until she stopped and stared. She saw that same boy, staring at her. His eyes were so beautiful. Two little oases. Back in the real world Naruto watched as the Sannin's eyes opened wide in shock, her jaw dropped, and tears began to fell.
She blinked again and saw that same boy. Except his eyes weren't there.
She screamed as she fell back from the fist bump. She was stammering and rocking back and forth.
Naruto placed a hand on her shoulder.
~20 minutes earlier~
"Hello Tsunade," Jiraiya sat down, "Shizune. Been a while."
"Whaddayou wa-" Tsunade heard a loud thud and looked up to see a severed head on the bar.
"GET OUT!"
Jiraiya let out a chuckle and scratched his cheek, "That's why I told him to wait by the door. Anyway. I need you to come back to the leaf."
"Nope! How may timesI gotta tell you olman? I ain't going back." She said as she poured some more sake.
"Tsunade, that boy is Minato's son."
"Hewuz yur sdudent. Why *hic* why should I care."
"Look, Tsunade, this kid I brought is really something. He means a lot to me," she raised an eyebrow, "A good friend of his badly hurt, there's one person who can perform the surgery."
"NOPE. Donwanna heer it," she made a fart noise and began laughing.
"Tsunade, if you talk to him, I think you'll find he's a lot like Nawa-"
She slammed her hand on the table, breaking it in two, getting a yelp from Shizune. Jiraiya looked down. He knew he shouldn't have brought up her little brother. Tears were streaming down Tsunade's face, "Why do you have to bring that up every time you talk to me?!" She shouted before storming off.
"Lady Tsunade!"
Jiraiya grabbed Shizune by the arm, "Naruto's out there."
"You're going to leave her for some ki-"
"He's not some kid," He interrupted coldly, tightening his grip on the woman, "he knows how to talk to people. He has this way about him, this way that makes you want to trust in him, open up to him. I didn't say he was like Nawaki for no reason," he paused, staring off into space, "NEVER underestimate an Uzumaki."
~Present~
Tsunade embraced the boy as Jiraiya and Shizune ran out to investigate the scream. Jiraiya chuckled as he looked at the boy and Tsunade. He winked at Shizune who stared, awestruck.
"Granny, I know you've been through a lot. But to abandon the good people of your village because you lost two important people is not what either of them would have wanted," he paused, "I've never felt your pain. Losing a close loved one. That's just something I never had in the first place. But over the years I've met so many people that have changed my life," he touched their fists together again.
This time happy memories flew threw her mind: Naruto was sitting atop the Hokage rock with three other boys, all talking and laughing. Naruto walked into the Danzō's office in a sexy transformation, causing the old man to faint. Naruto was looking up at the stars, leaning on a girls shoulder. Naruto sat eating ramen with a bunch of others. She recognized the kid sitting on the floor from earlier, "I was able to move past my pain because I met these people. By isolating yourself from everybody, you're just forcing yourself to dwell on your pain. If you stay away from the leaf, your home, you will constantly be in pain," he paused and pulled his fist away. He looked directly into her eyes. This boy had seen more tragedy than her, yet his eyes were so warm, so full of love. He began to tear up, "Tsunade, I don't want anybody to be in pain anymore," He whispered as he pulled her into another hug. The sannin closed her eyes and returned it. Jiraiya was right. He was a lot like Nawaki.
Jiraiya clapped Shizune on the shoulder. She was smiling now, "Come on Shizune," he said walking away, "let's go get your stuff."
"Oh actually Jiraiya-san, our stuff is this way," Shizune pointed the other way.
"Dammit! That was going to be so cool."
