"You!" Kim hissed, as the genie returned to her. "What did you do?"
Quinn looked at Kenny hooked up to the machines. "Does he remember her?"
"He forgot everything!" Kim cried. "Me, the kids, how to breathe and...what the hell did you do?"
"You asked him to forget her, so he forgot her."
"Not like this! Fix him!"
Silly humans, he thought, Max does have a soft spot for this one. She wanted to make sure he was okay when she left. He had to be before she accepted and embraced her new life. "What is your wish, Mistress?"
"Make him remember! Everything!"
Quinn sighed and looked at the comatose man. "I cannot just undo this. It was your wish."
Kim shuddered. "He's my husband, we have three kids, we need him."
He isn't even that interesting, Quinn thought, but Max was very attached to him, she clung to him, she loved him until she couldn't love anymore. This is for her. "To revive him, we need to make a deal, Mistress."
"I command you. You're a genie. You have to grant my wishes."
Quinn chuckled. "I suppose I do. How I grant them...For returning your husband to your children, you will be mine. You will come with me as my pet."
"Your pet?"
"To play with. To live amongst the Jinn and serve us."
Kim stared at him, shook to her core. "Is that what happened to Max? Is she your pet?"
"Max is not your concern.
"But my kids…"
"They'll have their father and you will be very well taken care of."
She stepped back. "No, please, no. I want to stay with Kenny and my kids. Anything else, please."
Selfish, he thought, she does only think of herself. "Your daughter Ava then."
"What?"
"She would make a nice pet."
She's six, Kim thought, it gives me time to find another way. "When?"
Quinn chuckled and looked at Kenny on the bed. "There is no need for you to continue to get attached to her. She will be raised by us, serve us, and want for nothing."
"What would I...people will notice she's gone."
Quinn stared at her, a slow smile creeping across his face. "No one will remember her but you."
Kim looked at Kenny in the bed and back at the Jinn. "What would you do to her?"
Selfish human, Quinn thought. "That is not your concern. She would be mine. Unless you would like to be mine instead."
This is what I did to Max, she thought, this genie did something to her to make her vanish. I don't want to vanish. "I can't lose my kids or husband."
Quinn yawned. "Your husband doesn't look so good, Mistress."
"Hi, Dad," Kaitlyn said, putting her backpack on the chair. "You're home from work."
Jimmy turned and looked at his 15-year-old stepdaughter and found himself getting hard. "You're home from school."
"Dad?"
My daughter, Jimmy thought, what am I thinking? She's my 15-year-old daughter. Not really, she's Laurie's adopted daughter. Stop it, I'm 65 and she's 15. "Sorry, I had a long day and your mom will be home any minute."
Kaitlyn smiled as she looked at the bulge in his pants. "We learned about that in health class...Dad."
He looked at her in her thin t-shirt and leggings. "What else did you learn?"
Kaitlyn leaned against the counter. "I'm sure you're a better teacher than Mr. Roberts."
"Why are you doing this to me?"
"They were your wishes, Mistress."
Kim glared at him. "You're a genie. You're supposed to serve me."
Genie, Quinn thought, she doesn't understand what we really are. She will. "Do you have a wish mistress?"
Kim stared at him. "You can have my daughter if you save my husband, Genie."
Quinn smiled at that. "You will have time to say good-bye after your husband has recovered. Granted."
Max giggled, as she sat across from Quinn in O'Calleigh's. "That is terrible."
"No worse than you," Quinn smiled. "He is fine now."
Kenny, she thought, he still thinks about me even after all this time. He was supposed to let me go and be happy. "I wanted him to be okay."
"Without you? How could he be?"
"He deserves someone who loves him. That isn't me anymore. I'd destroy him."
"You're not a monster, Max."
I like twisting wishes and desires and causing trouble, she thought, what good have I done? Kaitlyn was right, human me wouldn't like Jinn me very much. "Humans are never satisfied with what they have."
"I know."
I was, Max thought, I was happy to be getting married to the love of my life. We had so many dreams until...and I'm happy like this. "I could take him. Make him my companion."
"You could."
"His kids need him."
"You didn't think that about Kaitlyn."
Max held his gaze at that. "She knew what I was."
"I'm not judging you. We are what we are, Max. We aren't bound by the same laws and morals as humans."
Max nodded, her heart hurting a bit in the familiar surroundings. I shouldn't be here. I let this go. I let that old me go… "I want to see him."
Quinn smiled and nodded. "Go."
"It's what I want to," Kaitlyn sighed, draping herself around him. "It's what I've always wanted."
Wrong, Jimmy thought, she's 15...my stepdaughter. I want her too. Only her. "Let me teach you, Kaitlyn."
She smiled, as she melted against him. "Teach me, Jimmy."
Oh, Max thought, as she floated above his bed, invisible to him in her smokey form. Kenny...look at you. Quinn...you didn't need to...of course he did. It's our nature. And Kim...she chose to give her daughter to Quinn instead of herself. She thinks I'm a pet...I wanted him to be happy.
Kim looked up. "Are you here?"
Max swirled in the air a bit. She senses us now. She thinks I'm Quinn...That I'm his pet. I gave you the love of my life, my human life, and you did this. It wasn't enough, you couldn't handle how he still felt about me. You gave your daughter away to a Jinn without a second thought. You selfish cow.
"Genie?"
Max stayed where she was, ignoring her call. She wants Quinn. Look at her, she got fat. Mom jeans and hair. Oh, Kenny, this isn't what I wanted for you.
"Show yourself to me, Genie."
She doesn't know the difference between Jinn and genies, she thought, genies are the creation of humans and Jinn? We are something different, older, powerful...she should have wished for her waistline back.
Kim stood up and looked around. "Where are you? Why hasn't he woken up yet?"
I should have brought him with me. No, he got to be a father, he wanted that. Quinn shouldn't take his daughter...look at Kim.
"Genie?"
Max sighed as she let herself drift through the room at Kim's panic. I chose her for him. Letting herself sink onto the side of the bed, she curled her smokey form next to her former love, as Joey came in. We were so in love. She stroked his cheek, knowing he couldn't see or feel her. I shouldn't be here. I should go back. Play with the other Jinn...other wishes and humans. I want to stay right here with him.
"I enjoy Max," Quinn admitted. "Noelle and I chose her for a reason."
Dante looked at him. "She has transformed into a powerful Jinn. What are you planning with her?"
"I'm not planning anything with her. She is a young Jinn and I enjoy spending time with her. She embraces what she is, she is reckless, but she has been inspired."
"We are seven Quinn. We need to be seven and not divided."
"We are seven."
"Jinn's do not belong in pairs. You learned that with Noelle."
Noelle, Quinn thought, Jinn don't remember love. Not like Max and I do. They're wrong. "I'll distance from her when we're done here."
"Jimmy?" Kaitlyn said, as they next to each other in bed, as he went still in her arms. "Jimmy!"
He clutched his chest. "Call 911."
"Jimmy!" she cried, as he passed out next to her.
