DM Margo and The Bullies Chapter 2

At home time, Lucy collected Margo only to find her daughter with a slightly less black eye and her glasses all broken. Lucy gasped in shock and horror, looking very stunned. ''Margo! Whatever's happened to you?'' she asked in horror.

"I've been bullied today, Mom. That's why I pretended to be ill" Margo confessed. ''I wish you had told me sooner darling. But we can fix this!'' said Lucy looking determined.

''Ok Mom'' said Margo, she paused before saying ''Maybe I should fight the bullies back?''. ''No you should not!'' said

Lucy, ''you would be behaving just as badly as they are and that is just what they want!'', Lucy thought about what to say next, "Margo, sweetheart, listen. When you've been bullied, you should always tell me or Gru, or your teacher. You must let me talk to Miss Frannie tomorrow''.

''Ok'' said Margo, handing her mom the letter Miss Frannie had written. When they got home, Lucy called ''Gru, can you come and look at this letter from Miss Frannie? She's written to say Margo get beaten up at school today!''.

"What? Wait, wait! Woah, woah, woah! What was that?" Gru asked coming over and said, "Oh my... Margo, your glasses!" catching sight of the sorry looking remains of Margo's glasses. Then Gru noticed Margo still had a bit of a black eye from when Susan punched her.

"Where'd you get that black eye?" he demanded. ''Some bullies beat me up and punched me in the eye and in the nose and they broke my glasses'' Margo said. "Have you been bullied before?" Gru asked. 'Yeah, they've been picking on me lately and today it was worse'' Margo sighed.

"Well then, why didn't you tell me or your mother?" Gru asked. ''Because I was too scared to tell in case the bullies found out'' Margo confessed.

"Margo, you should always tell me or Lucy whenever you've been bullied. If they do found out, eet's for their own good" said Gru sternly. ''Yes Dad'' Margo said, ''I know that now''. "Attagirl, Margo" said Gru, giving her a hug.

''Gru, I'm just gonna take Margo to the opticians to get her some new glasses, come on Margo'' said Lucy. ''Ok see you later'' Gru said.

Lucy and Margo drove the opticians in Lucy's car, when they got there, Lucy explained the receptionist that Margo needed new glasses and showed her the broken glasses. ''I see now'' said the receptionist. ''May I ask how your daughter's eyesight is? It'll help us to know what lenses to give her''.

''Sure'' Lucy said, ''Margo is short sighted and she needs glasses to help her read from far away''. ''So Margo'' said the receptionist, ''do you wanna come and try on some glasses and see what sort of frames you like?''.

''Sure'' said Margo and the receptionist lead her and Lucy to where there were loads of different glasses hung up on. Take a seat here with your mother, darling" said the receptionist. She offered Margo lots of different glasses to try on. ''Wow!'' Margo said as she looked at her refection in the mirror.

''I bet you've never seen so many glasses honey!'' Lucy said. ''Yeah how 'bout that?'' Margo agreed. She came to a pair of square-rimmed glasses that were like her old ones, but these ones were yellow, upon closer inspection, Margo saw that the glasses had pictures of lions on them.

''Mom, please can I have these ones?'' she asked, ''they look cool!''. ''Yeah sure you can honey'' Lucy said, smiling. They picked up the new glasses on the way out.

''It's good to be me again'' said Margo putting on her new glasses. "Of course it is, sweetie" said Lucy giving her a noogie, ''Tomorrow you gotta let me come into school with ya so I can talk to Miss Frannie about how to stop the bullying''.

"OK, Mom. Thank you. I knew I can always trust you" said Margo. ''That's my girl! We won't let those bullies bother you again sweetie!'' said Lucy, "But next time, don't pretend to be sick again". ''I won't'' said Margo, and she meant it.

''Good'' said Lucy, ''Come here!''. She playfully picked up Margo and spun her around. ''Woooooh!'' said Lucy as Margo laughed going round in circles. When they got home, everyone talked at once about Margo's new lion glasses.

''Margo you look so different! '' Gru said. "She's got lions on her glasses!" Edith added. ''That's what she chose guys, you gotta respect she likes them'' Lucy told them. "Lions are fluffy like unicorns and my goat Lucky" Agnes pipped up from where she'd been playing with Lucky who bleated loudly. ''I guess so!'' Margo grinned.

The minions came to see Margo's glasses They surrounded her excitedly. "No, no, no, no! Guys, stop! ONE AT A TIME!" shouted Gru.

Next morning on the way into school, Lucy and Margo saw the bullies waiting and growling. "New glasses, Margo? Ya big cry-baby!" growled Stella.

But Lucy marched up to them and roared angrily ''If I find you girls, taunting my daughter again, I'll call your mothers and you'll be banned from the school!". This made the bullies whimper by how tall Margo's mother was and they quickly fell back into line.

"You do NOT attack children because ya are kids, too!" Lucy continued to rant, ''NOW YOU LEAVE MY DAUGHTER ALONE!''.

Then Lucy and Margo headed inside to Margo's classroom to talk to Miss Frannie. ''Mom I never heard ya yell so loud!'' said Margo as they walked along. ''Moms gotta be tough sometimes honey'' replied Lucy, "You told that before, didn't ya". ''Yes Mom'' sighed Margo.

"Good. Come on. Let's speak to your teacher" said Lucy. Miss Frannie was already there when Lucy and Margo walked into the classroom.

Lucy and Miss Frannie talked about Margo being bullied for a few minutes and after Lucy had left for school to begin, Miss Frannie was able to deal with bullies in a way that didn't make it look as though Margo had told on them.

Stella, Sally, and Susan seemed a lot less interested in taunting her, though one day when Margo walked past them, Susan said in a bored to death tone of voice, ''So Margo how do you feel today?''. ''I feel ok thanks '' said Margo with a smile.
