On his way there to the bridge everyone looked at him confused. He would be smiling all day and right now he was upset.
When he got there he took a deep breath and tried to be the fighter and feelings hider they all know.
"Captain, commander." he said leveryone watched him wondering what was wrong.
"Lieutenant Crusher," Picard started.
"Yes sir?" he said when he sat down.
"Is something wrong?"
"I'd rather not say until we're free sir." he said causing him to have a flashback of years ago.
Then he shook his head and Picard looked at him suspicious thinking it was a repeat.
"And I don't mean it like I said years ago. I swore to never lie again and so far have been achieving it."
"Alright. Warp 89." Picard said.
He was relieved at that.
"Course is set." he said after getting it all set.
"Engage."
Then they were off.
Throughout the day both of them had trouble focusing but with experience here Wesley was doing better then Kathryn.
Finally they were done and at the observation lounge.
"Alright Wes, Kat, what's wrong?" Riker asked.
"I feel depression." Deanna said causing them all to be worried.
"I-I," Kathryn started but couldn't do it so Wesley held her close.
"Kat had a miscarriage." he said causing everyone to gasp.
"That's why you were so quiet, upset and Kathryn had trouble focusing. Wesley had a little trouble to but was able to get everything done right." Geordi said.
They nodded.
"I'm so sorry Lieutenant, ensign." Picard said then looked at Wesley. "Out of everyone here, you deserve your own family the most Wesley. You saved us multiple times over the years. From the day you got here when you were fifteen to this very day after you left and came back. Every time you were on school break you had to save us and achieved every time. And when you were back at the Academy you wore your Starfleet uniform and left class when we needed you. You taught cadets what it took to achieve your goal. I know you didn't like getting respect and say at ease just about all day everyday you treated it right. (That got him to chuckle and the others to snicker a little) There were even times I thought about asking admiral Brad if I could borrow you for help when you were there at first."
That got Wesley to feel touched at what he just heard.
"As much as it hurt me that day years ago, I stopped being mad at you a long time ago and when I became an acting ensign you became my mentor. I wanted to make you proud. And that day six years ago I tried to tell them not to do it. But I lost the fight. I swore to never lie again that day you left. And when I left I enjoyed being gone. But my second year the Traveller was murdered causing me to be alone and think that maybe I just needed a break. Last year I thought about what dad said and when mom told me about that ensign I knew I was going to be back."
That got Picard to feel touched like Wesley.
Everyone else looked at Wesley. Everyone realized what he had done for them over the years and were thankful that they were lucky to have someone so smart.
"Permission to leave the room sir?"
"Permission granted. You're free to take the rest of the week off to calm down."
Wesley nodded.
"Thank you sir." he said and they headed to his quarters.
Throughout the week Wesley and Kathryn would stick together. Wesley would hold her close when she started crying.
A week later Wesley was on his way to his quarters after his afternoon shift.
Both of them were still upset but calm enough to get back to work.
Wesley would be able to get back the day after it happened but knew Kathryn needed him.
A few seconds later someone grabbed onto him.
"What the?"
Then he headed to his quarters and saw a new ensign.
"Who are you?"
"I loved you the minute I saw you. So now I'm gonna make it that way." she said and got undressed then undressed him and laid on his bed.
"Get off of me!" he said but she got her lips on his.
While that happened there was a door open and a gasp.
It was Kathryn coming to see if he was ready for dinner.
"Wesley!" she said.
That got him and the ensign to jump.
"I can explain!" Wesley said while the ensign got up, dressed and left.
"I don't want to hear it!" Kathryn said then smacked him, took off the ring and threw it on the ground. "We're through!" she said then left.
Wesley stood there with his hand on his cheek and shocked.
"I didn't cheat on you." he said and picked up the ring.
Then he put it on his nightstand and cleaned up his face.
While Wesley did that Kathryn headed to her quarters crying.
People were confused and wondering if it was still from the miscarriage.
When she got to her quarters she laid on her bed crying.
Then she started to fall asleep.
The next day Wesley was silent all day and just telling Picard or Riker the course is set.
At his lunch break people were surprised he sat by himself and not with Kathryn.
Some people had an idea what happened because they had heard what happened last week.
In the afternoon Wesley was the same way. Geordi had him in charge of the engineering for a a few minutes while he was gone and saw him helping Setter with something when he got back. He had been having Wesley be in charge with it when he leaves to see how much he had learned and been keeping the other staff posted.
He's been getting better and better every time.
When he was done he headed to his quarters to do something. Something he hadn't done in a long time but had wanted to do multiple times over the years.
