Fair Ride
"Michael, why are we going to a hospital?"
"Because the person in the hospital can help us on our case. She's a 9 year old girl that got shot by the robber."
KITT sounded horrified. "The robber SHOT a little girl!?"
"Yes. We believe she witnessed the robbery and they tried to kill her to get rid of any testimony she could give. Poor thing. Devon spoke to her mother, apparently the girl has been crying for 2 days from the pain."
"Well then, by all means, let's hurry it up so we can get this man behind bars!"
Michael chuckled. "KITT, if I didn't know better, I'd say you have a soft spot for kids."
"What gave it away?"
Michael only laughed. Once they arrived, Michael went inside to meet the girl.
"Hi there, sweetheart. I'm Michael."
The girl sniffled. "I'm Elaine."
"Well, Elaine. I'm here to help catch the man that hurt you. "
"Really?" Elaine asked with wide eyes.
"Yes. But if I'm going to catch him, I need to ask you something; Did you see what he looked like?"
Elaine nodded. "Yeah! He was wearing a black shirt, jeans, a mask, and he had a tattoo on his neck!"
"A tattoo on his neck?" Michael asked.
"Yeah! It looked like a snake!"
"Alright. Anything else you saw?"
"Um….he drove away in a red car."
"A red car?"
"Yeah! But on the back, it had some kind of paper saying something like, 'TAG APPLIED FOR'.."
"I see. Thank you Elaine. I'm gonna catch this guy in no time." Michael left the hospital and got in the car pulling the trailer where KITT stood in.
"Did you get enough information, Michael?"
"Plenty. I'm gonna call Devon and tell him what we know, and then we're going to notify the police."
"Something tells me it won't be that simple, Michael."
"I know."
A few hours later, Michael saw a car matching the description Elaine gave. The car was parked on a dirt road next to a farm.
"Well what do you know?"
"Michael? Can you let me out?"
"What's wrong?"
"I feel like something is going to go wrong. Please let me out."
"Alright, alright." Michael opened the trailer, and KITT trotted up to Michael rubbed his head against him.
"KITT, I'm fine!"
"I'm sorry, Michael. But I've got a bad feeling about-"
The car phone rang. Michael answered it. Devon's voice came through.
"Michael! The girl's been kidnapped! They said the man took her in a white car!"
A white car sped past them.
"I think we found the car!"
"Then let's go!" KITT got back in the trailer, Michael got back in the car, and drove after the white car. It was stopped by a police blockade, but when the car stopped, the man tried to grab Elaine and run. Michael ran up and punched him in the face. Then got Elaine out of the car and carried her back to his car. He took her back to the hospital, and her mother came out with a pair of crutches so she could get around.
"Are you okay, Elaine?"
"I guess….I just wanna go home."
"Well," Michael smiled. "There's someone who wants to meet you. Elaine, this is KITT." Michael let KITT out of the trailer, and he immediately trotted over to Elaine and nuzzled her.
"Oh, Elaine, I'm so glad you're alright."
"He talks!?" Elaine's mother exclaimed.
"Yes, and if you don't mind, I think he wants to give your daughter a ride when she's let out of the hospital."
Elaine giggled. "Please? Please, Mom?"
Her mother sighed. "Alright, but you have to wait until Saturday."
"Okay!"
"We'll see you then." Michael smiled.
Saturday came, and KITT trotted up with Michael on his back.
"Hello, Elaine! Are you ready?"
"Yeah!"
"Oh, one more thing." Michael put a helmet on Elaine. "NOW you're ready."
Michael helped Elaine on to KITT.
"Tally-ho!" KITT said, for Elaine's amusement, and they galloped away.
