This takes place right after the dancing scene from Joseph an Clarisse (the ultimate OTP btw.;)). I hope you like it and please be kind because this is my first ever story and english is not my mother language so sorry for possible mistakes... but now let;s start!
Clarisse just stood in the hall like in trance... she was... yes well sad and shocked were the wrong words. She felt as if her whole world just crushed down at once and she was sure she had never felt so helpless in her entire life. He just couldn't do that now. He just couldn't leave her. Now and never. She needed him, she never thought she would really need someone but with Joseph it was different: he cared for her and he helped and comforted her whenever she needed him and he had done that... well it felt like forever. And now... it seemed she'd lose his comfort, his trust and HIM forever...
Calm voices from the hallway on top of the stairs finally brought her back to reality. Even though the owners of the voices seemed to try and suppress the noises it didn't really work out in the end. A few moments later Clarisse was able to see the owners of the voices: one was her assistant Charlotte, who tried to stop the other owner of the voices, - and this really didn't surprise her at all- her granddaughter Mia, from going into the room. 'Grandma! What the heck have you done now?!', were the first words spoken-or more shouted- to her. The first thing that came to her mind was that Mia was using that terrible slang of hers again, but she really didn't feel like giving her a lesson now. 'What do you mean Mia?' She tried to act confused because if she told her now, the whole palace would listen sooner or later and this personal stuff definitely wasn't anyone else's business. Okay maybe Mia and even Charlotte might be different but she knew that the whole palace and this room in particular had ears... But Clarisse forgot Mia's curiosity or even worse: her stubbornness. 'Oh come on Grandma, do you think I'm dumb? I heard yours and Joseph ...well let's say conversation a few moments ago and I must say this definitely took the wrong turn!' Mia said while coming down the stairs on the left side. Charlotte on the other hand just stood on top of the stairs and-reading her facial expression- seemed to be sorry for not stopping Mia sooner and second of all didn't really know what to do. Clarisse tried to answer but Mia just continued talking: 'Come on now... don't look so surprised, I KNOW that you're absolutely sad about what happened a few moments ago and I also know that you now fear of losing him now because- and I KNOW that too- you love him! Now don't give me that shocked "I don't know what you're talking about" face because you KNOW it is true!' It was true, she was shocked... First of all because Mia scolded her like a little school-girl who forgot to do her homework and second of all because of the things she actually told her... did she really love Joseph? Of course, she did...why was she still denying her deep feelings for this man? But the truth was: this was never about whether she loved him or not... it was about her duty as a queen to her country and how she had always put aside personal needs and wishes. Mia seemed to be able to read her mind because she added: ' I know what you're thinking now: what about my duties? And I as the future queen of Genovia AND your granddaughter who loves you very much and just wants to see you happy, I am telling you that all of this will be fine... really... Don't worry so much! Now it's your turn to get what you always wanted and desired... what are you waiting for?' The first time in her life Clarisse was absolutely speechless. She definitely hadn't been prepared for a speech like that. But could it be that easy for her? Could she just walk right up to Joseph and tell him that she was in love with him? But Mia was right, what was she waiting for? She would always be queen or former queen and she also would always be in the centre of the attention of the people and the press. It really surprised her how wise and aged Mia had become over the last 5 years and she really would make a fine queen... so could she really? As if searching for approval she looked up to Charlotte, who was still standing on top of the stairs, but the young woman just nodded and smiled. 'Well then…', Clarisse started, 'thank you for telling me to do the right thing, Mia. You really are something my dear. I hope you know that.' Mia just smiled: 'Thank you Grandma. But now goooo.' She made moves as if she wanted to push her. 'Yes, yes fine I'll go and search for him.' She chuckled and turned around to start her search in the gardens when Mia suddenly shouted: 'GO GET THE MAN GRANDMA!' She turned around in surprise but Mia just grinned and left the room. Clarisse just stood there and shook her head: aged or not, Mia still had her sudden outbursts… 'Your Majesty. Shall I call Joseph and tell him that you want to talk to him?' Oh, she had completely forgotten that Charlotte was still standing on top of the stairs. 'Yes, that is a good idea Charlotte. Please tell him that I want to talk to him in my suite right now.' Her first idea was to search for Joseph on her own but calling him was a much better idea and it was a lot faster too.
She hurried to her suite and stood there, waiting. Now that she was there, she felt that she was getting more and more nervous as the minutes passed by and she started pacing around her front room. What was she supposed to say to him? How could she… Suddenly there was a knock at the door, Clarisse stopped pacing at once and sat down at her sitting-launch, then she said with a raised voice: 'Come in.' And there he was… as she saw him standing at her door she really had to try and stop herself from directly running in his arms. Clarisse felt as she was going to die because of nervousness. 'Was there something you wanted to discuss your Majesty?' came the question from her Head of Security and she couldn't but had to roll her eyes as he addressed her with her formal title. 'Oh, stop this in instant. You know it is Clarisse.' 'But…', he wanted to protest but she didn't let him speak. 'In fact, there is something that I wanted to discuss with you, please sit down.' She patted at the place next to her on the couch and had to suppress a laughter at is puzzled expression because of her changed mood. 'I really don't know where to start Joseph…', she really didn't know… now that he was sitting right next to her, she felt completely out of words for the second time this day. 'Well I would say the beginning is always a good idea.', was Joseph's reply and she had to smile at his ability to always being able to say the right thing in every situation possible. 'Well then, I… I…. I don't want to lose you Joseph… I need you', it surprised her that she wasn't even able to form full sentences now and she looked down at her hands, 'you're too important for me and I just can't live without you… What I'm trying to say is that I… I love you Joseph…', now was that so hard? 'I'm sorry for our little misunderstanding earlier… I never wanted to hurt you or leave you with the impression that I don't love you. Because that is not true Joseph… I just was afraid of my own feelings and that if I followed my own desires, I'd fail my duty as a queen.' Now after she said all these things, she dared to look at his reaction. As she looked up in his now smiling face she felt as if a huge burden disappeared from her shoulders and she felt the corners of her mouth forming a smile of her own. 'Clarisse, you'll never fail your country because you're Clarisse Renaldi and a Clarisse Renaldi would never ever let that happen.', was his sweet reply and she couldn't believe that such a sweet and understanding man really loved her. 'You really are something my dear.', Joseph added and she grinned as she remembered that those were the same words, she had told Mia earlier. 'Am I Joseph?' she giggled in a very unqueenly manner. 'You are, my love.', he said with a soft tone in his voice and she felt as if her heart missed a beat at the title, he used for her. 'May I Clarisse?' he said as he slowly came closer to her. 'You may Joseph.' She whispered as he put up his hands to cup her face. She felt her breath hitching in her throat as he softly caressed her cheeks with his thumbs and when his lips met hers, she was sure she stopped breathing.
